Excellant for meat-eaters

This restaurant has very generous portions of well seasoned meat that is cooked with very good technique. The sausages seem like they are quite freshly made and their roast veal or pork is second to none in my opinion. The scalloped potatoes which come with the roast are also very nicely made.

The service is prompt and the decor is pretty standard I'd think.

not the greatest place for eastern european food

I went to Balkan House on a Wednesday or Thursday a while ago, with my bf and a friend of ours. The restaurant was completely empty, even so, the waitress took such a long time to come and take our drinks and food order, unbelievable!! The food was ready pretty fast. The dishes were pretty big, however the food barely had any flavor: absolutely nothing special whatsoever; the pork that I ordered was dry and the others were not happy with their food either. The restaurant looks like it came from the communist era; if that was the owner's intention then I give him a 5 star rating for that.

For anyone who enjoys eating a lot of meat for a very reasonable price, this is definitely the place for you. And not only do they give you a lot of meat with each entree, the quality of the meat (and food overall) is absolutely excellent, perhaps the best I've had at any restaurant. One would be hard pressed to find anybody leaving this restaurant still hungry. The Sunday dinner buffet is highly recommended, as it features a variety of quality dishes (lots of meat of course, but many other items as well). Overall, and absolutely excellent dining experience that will defintely have me returning time and again.

A Real Treat

My wife and I ordered thier meat sampler for two. Besides very large portions, the 5 types of Serbian meats, every one interesting and different were very tasty. This restaurant, a bit run down, is one we will definately be going back to.

Balkan house is great for their awesome portions, decent prices, and wonderful authentic Balkan staff haha... The restaurant always seems to draw patrons of Eastern European heritage, so I hope this review encourages others to give it a try. Be prepared though, it's a lot of meat!

10 years worth of Solid Experience

Let me first say it here, I have been a Balkan House Restaurant customer for over 10 years. I am a Chinese and this is the place I go to eat Eastern European food. In all my visits there I haven't seen many Chinese around in fact I could use both of my hands to count how many I have seen eating there. I don't know what most people are talking about in the restaurant and I am not particularly fond of the live music there either.

But this has been the place all 3 generations of family members have been to for East European food. We liked the Schnitzel all along. Veal Schnitzel is not on the menu but if you ask (like I do everytime) you will be able to get it and it never disappoints. The bread is fresh and warm too.

I must say the service was Mediocre - there's definitely room for improvement. The gentleman I used to see everytime was pretty good (I haven't seen him lately though). He did recommend me to try the ethnic desert, which's quite refreshing.
