White Rock Restaurant Reviews
Indian Kitchen15481 Marine Drive, White Rock
Best Indian Food Ever!

So my friends and were thinking of going to a restaurant and so we decided to try out Indian Kitchen and the restaurant looked very good and there was also music. The couple that own this place are very nice and friendly. The prices of the dishes aren't expensive. There are over 180 dishes to choose from. So when it was time to order, we ordered butter chicken, palak paneer, bombay aloo and puria and some garlic naan. Then we were waiting and it didn't take long for the food to come and the food isn't already made, so when you order then it's made so the fresh. The decor is great. Then when the food came we tried it and when we tried it we were all blown away on how good the food was. It was just outstanding and. Also my friends told me that this is the best food that they have ever eaten and I agreed. Then when we finished the food we paid the bills and the bills weren't really expensive. So I recommend this restaurant to everyone who wants to have great food, great decor, great customer service, and great prices.

I agree that the restaurant needs an update. BUT, the food and service is wonderful, we have been many times through the years and we always enjoy it immensely! We drive all the way from Abbotsford to White Rock to eat there. I think the Chef does a wonderful job, if you ask for something special he goes out of his way to get it for you. We have had the steak, chicken, fish and the chef's specials and all of the food is first class and the best. We have eaten downtown Vancouver in many of the "so called finest" restaurants and would rather go to La Baia as compared to some of them. I don't know what that other fellow was talking about when he said he wouldn't go back. but definitley we don't agree with him at all.

This place has a clean look of a remodelled house. It has a wonderful view, and fabulous food. The alcohol is a bit on the pricey side, but if you don't drink then it's manageable. I've been here a few times and have learned that this is one of those restaurants where the appy's are better than the mains. Their beef tenderloin with risotto is amazing. Their miso salad is YUM and perfectly seasoned. I can't remember what else i've had there but I've been here a few times now and will definitely be coming back!

We've passed by this place before and heard from people that it was good so went here when our other favourite place across the street was closed. From the outside it looks nice, and the menu looks inviting. They have some french classics such as coq au vin and daily specials. There was 4 of us. In total we had the bruschetta & beef tenderloins to start, french onion soup & salad nicoise, coq au vin and asparagus salad, green salad & mussels, and seafood pasta.

The beef tenderloin was nothing special, and bruschetta wasn't mainly tomato. There was onions in the bruschetta, and they accidently left some of the peel on (pet peeve of mine since it's inedible). The salads were mediocre. The green beans on the salad nicoise tasted raw, not blanched like usual. The tuna had lacked flavour.

All in all, everything lacked some sort of flavour. Maybe they are catering to the older crowd (since it IS white rock) and making everything low sodium or with little spice to please the seniors. Lesson learned!

Had dinner there on Wednesday 05 Oct 2011. Weather outside was cold and dreary but inside the Pearl it was warm and invitefull. The Pearl wasn't our first choice, since we've never been there before, but due to circumstance we ended up there. We where the first ones in and got our choice of tables. Obviously we took a table at the window. As expected our hostess and our waiter Charles were efficiently attentive to our needs and requests for the entire time we were there. The decor of the place is very pleasing to the eye.

On the food and beveage front the Pearl brilliantly shines through. Extensive and varied wine selection. Cocktails, The Pink Nightmare, were superbly done.

Beautiful big Mussels, Seafood Pot Stickers and Prawn Bisque were our starters.
Pork Lion, Fraser Valley Lamb and Cod Fish and Chips were our mains. All were really good but I think the Pork was truly a standout in this trio. The tender meat served up on spot on polenta all brought together with a swirl of honey. Very very good.

Chocolate Pate, cheese cake and cheese plate were for dessert. If you like chocolate I really recommend the pate., wow.

Oh, really good coffee is served as well.

Overall a really good experience.

Chef Ramsay would be proud.

In all, for three, with cocktails and wine about $260.

Hadn't been to Milestones in a while but was in the mood for a 'big salad' so went back for a nice meal on my birthday. Not the best idea I'm afraid. Dragged my two children and husband there hoping for a good time but the food was highly unimpressive and uninspired. The thai noodle salad that I so lovingly remembered was less than stellar being bland and of poor quality ingredients and my husband picked through a side ceasar since so much of it was littered with brown gross lettuce. His chicken burger/sandwich was very tiny, enough that he pointed it out to me and had a good chuckle over it's puny size. The kids food was not much better, so all in all it was a real disappointment. We had to wait a long time for our check to be delivered as well, even after telling her we were in a bit of a hurry to depart. I don't know why wait staff mess up their tips by doing that, it just doesn't make any sense. When a customer says "Thank you, we are finished. Just the bill please as we need to head out pretty quick here" it means get the bill already!!
We won't be back.

We have dined in this restaurant on many occasions with friends. We called the other night and requested a table by the window and were told they do not take reservations. We got there, on our anniversary, to find a window table available, but were told it was reserved? Enough to upset our evening and to stop us going back. The food is not as good as it used to be anyway... I heard new owners. Their signature brucetta bread was very oily and not as good as usual.... Overall the food is good, but I won't return.. If you do chose to go, go with 4 people not 2 as then you get more variety.

If you love turkey, this is the place to go. Choose from numerous options from a breakfast right to dinner menu. Then go over to the deli and you have a HUGE variety of turkey products to choose from - not cheap but unique! and worth the money.
Make sure you don't have a full afternoon scheduled after the meal because the tryptophan kick in fast !

Most Disappointing
By Only Me of White Rock, BC (1 Review)
Submitted Friday, September 30, 2011 - 12:40pm [Dine in]

Despite our reservation having been handled with courtesy, our lunch was most disappointing. Not only was the food poorly prepared, without flavour, even the bread was rock hard, with the waitress accepting no responsibility, advising this is how bread is when warmed up, Clearly the so-called 'Chef' has no training and the "anything goes" attitude was very obviousl. Our luncheon was expensive considering both my friend and I, usually an easy-going pair, came away convinced we were 'ripped off' that definitely would never return. This review is our way of letting others know Crescent Beach Bistro is certainly not all it is cracked up to be. Having read previous reviews about this cozy Bistro, we most definitely disagree with all positive reviews and suspect they may have been written by diners with little experience of eating out in places where 'Chefs' are indeed 'Chefs' and staff care about customer service. We do not recommend the Crescent Beach Bistro and are happy to say we rarely find it necessary to post such a negative review. Thank You!

Charlie Don't Surf15011 Marine Drive, White Rock
Surfs Up ?

Submitted Thursday, September 22, 2011 - 9:46am [Dine in]

Not sure about this place. Dropped by Charlie's about a week ago after a stroll down the White Rock main food drag. It was interesting checking out restaurant prices, some were very expensive while other's were very reasonably priced. We settled on Charlie Don't Surf.

Our server started out real strong. Tons of personality, the chatty man, etc. but it seems like after that first impression he felt that perhaps he had done his job. He pretty much left us after that first drink order, someone else brought our meals, he didn't check on us or actually pay any attention to us afterward. The place was not busy at 5pm, perhaps he was focusing on the dinner rush.

I ordered their burger, at around 10 bucks comes with fries and a pretty good deal. I also ordered a Stanley Park Larger served in what has to be the worlds smallest beer glass. It had the Stanley Park Beer logo on it so not sure who to blame for this, perhaps the beer maker but come on Charlie that is one small beer glass. Perhaps you should do something about it like charge less.

The burger was just fine. It was a fairly large portion with a ton of crispy fries on the verge of being overcooked. The burger patty had little real taste and I suspect was frozen at one time or another. Like I say it was fine, not memorable in any way.

My dining partner ordered the seafood pot with bits of fish, crab, etc. and reported that it was very very salty.
The portion looked just fine for the 12 dollar order.

I gave an outstanding for ambiance as we sat on the patio overlooking the waterfront, very nice on a sunny day. Actually never really checked out the interior of the restaurant but it looked very dark.

Next time in White Rock I believe we'll just stroll right by Charlie's and check out one of the many other options on the strip.

Had a group of my colleagues at Pearl for a meeting and it was great. Had some fresh oysters, flamed prawns and there bread with lemon truffle oil for dipping. I had the steelhead special, anything with risotto I love! The presentation on the meal was great.
Had a great view, we were seated on the private banquet so we could see the ocean and sunset.
Will deifnately hold my meetings here again.

A first visit to the "re-branded" Pearl-on-the-Rock today for lunch. The place was empty, the server indifferent (although some cool tatoos), the food ordinary, and over-priced. It's sad to see the shell of what was once a first-class restaurant. Other than the decor, nothing remains of the outstanding Pearl-on-the-Rock. Don't let the re-branding fool you. Hopefully, a restuaranteur will fill the void that has been left by the now departed Pearl-on-the Rock.

Went there at the worst time, a sunny Sunday at noon, and paid the price. Friendly staff but it took 30 minutes for the food, fish & chips, (not a special order) to arrive after ordering. Unfortunately, we were hungry and that made it worse. When food arrived, it was very ordinary: fries were good but not terrific, fish was soggy and really needed the tartar sauce. Used an entertainment coupon & was told that I needed the card, which I had. They do not like Entertainment coupons. Steveston has a number of places with better fish and chips; certainly not worth the drive and we will go elsewhere.

Great Restaurant Poor Service (Rude Staff)

Submitted Sunday, August 21, 2011 - 1:45pm [Dine in]

Just wanted to write about my visit to pearl urban bistro last night.

Upon arrival the restaurant was packed which was great. We had made resovations so it made life a little easier and even better was that we had parked in their back parking lot which was convenient and complimentary (unheard of in Whiterock beach definitely a bonus).

When getting to the front and waiting for the table this is where the night began to turn. We asked to sit on the patio and the young woman (who later I found out was the manager) had quite the attitude with me and I think rolled her eyes at me.

We have dined a few times at pearl on the rock before the changes and fell in love with it so this was our first experience dining at the newly renovated restaurant.

Our dinner was mediocre having the special which was over seasoned and over done. But the appies we had were great. No one came and checked on us the whole evening as our server had a larger group. And when asking for a top up of water it seemed like I was asking our server the whole world.

But I must say dining here this visit was a little different. The manager was spending more time with which seemed to be her friends as i assume from the hugging and verbal language of swearing (as she was talking with them about going out drinking and partying) than worrying what was going on in the restaurant. In fact our table ordered our drink first and the table she was talking to not only had there drinks made for them immedietly but I head "these are on me" and then she proceeded to stand at their table for a solid 15 minutes and chat.

To top off the night when paying the bill the manager blaintenly spoke down to her employees and was utterly rude to one.

The restaurant looks amazing and the menu too. Its just missing the lack of service that it used to possess. I don't think will be coming back anytime soon

You get what you pay for. Freshest ingredients...see the boxes of mangoes stacked along the wall, real grated coconut, and chocolate you will remember. The best on the drive. Mom and dad operation. They have been across the drive from the pier for years. The only complaint? They close for the winter.

My wife and I took her cousin and wife from out of town for dinner at the WAG. Everything was outstanding. Her cousin said it was the best meal he had on their trip by far. He had the seafood hot pot, his wife had the lobster ravioli, I had the mixed seafood grill and my wife had the pork chop. All food was cooked to perfection. The ocean view and cool historic ambiance make this place a must eat for those coming to white rock.

We've walked by the restaurant many times wondering how long it would last. From the outside it looks a little stark and we imagined it would be pricey. But, wandering down Marine Drive on a busy and hot summer weekend evening, our patio choices were very limited. As we approached Deluxe, we noticed an empty table on the patio and thought we'd try it out.

Here is the summary: Excellent food (we started with beef skewers and risotto -- delish! -- then had a plain but surprisingly tasty avocado pizza and a bucket of ice cold Peroni); service was stellar (and our server looked a little like Jake Gyllenhall -- can't complain about that!); and the people watching was abundant. Prices ranged from $15-$50 so there is some flexibility if you don't want to fork out a pile of money.

I definitely recommend this restaurant to locals and visitors alike.

We used to be big fans of Wings as you just couldn't beat a pitcher of blond ale and pile of wings. However, the steady decline in the quality of these wings is just too much too ignore. The last 4 or 5 times we've been there during the last year have become increasingly worse and our last meal there about a week ago was the clincher. We had the most soggy and tasteless wings we've ever had! The location is great, the service staff were at one time very good and the wings used to hit the spot but last week was the last time we will ever eat in or take out from this location again.
