I had an absolutely terrible dining experience at CDS recently. I was there in 2009 for the first time and it wasn't impressive, but it's gotten worse since. I emailed the restaurant a few days after dining in, and it's been more than 2 weeks now....not a word from them at all.

to the owner/operator/front of house manager/kitchen lead,
we had a coupon from the 2012 entertainment book so we decided to try your restaurant on aug 31 2012.
we arrived at the restaurant and was seated by a hostess within a few minutes. our server came by about 5 minutes later (too long!) with the menu.
we ordered the following:
pint of fat tug, fisherman hotpot, and halibut burger. our food did not arrive until 30 minutes later. i believe i actually saw my halibut burger was delivered to another table by a busperson/food runner, however, he was only told by the other patrons that they didnt order the burger.
the food runner took the burger back and re-appeared with it 5 minutes later along with my wife's fisherman hotpot. by then, my fries were cold and my halibut filet was lukewarm. my wife's fisherman hotpot was not fresh. actually, all of the ingredients in the hotpot appeared to be from a bag of frozen seafood one can purchase from superstore. the fisherman hotpot was also very bland and was not fresh in any ways.
throughout our dining service, our server never did once checked back with us.
upon getting the cheque from our server, i voiced concerns for the slow service and terrible food. he mentioned that he was "new". i am not quite sure what to make of his reply.
i did not feel that i should have even tipped him for such terrible dining experience, but i did anyway. i actually felt bad for him for working in this establishment with such poor training.
after payment, he did not thank us for our patronage either. I should not have tipped him at all.
I expect to hear from your restaurant via email and would like an answer for such poor service and terrible food.

very disappointed diners
My wife and I celebrated our 16th anniversary at Giraffe in White Rock last night. The food, ambiance , service and entire dining experience was excellent. Our thanks to Jamie for making our night special.
We will definitely return as soon as we can. The crab wonton appetizer was excellent as was the halibut and thet portobello mushroom entree. I highly recommend trying to reserve one of the tables outside as the view is magnificent.
I wish I had read the reviews on Charlie Don't Surf before coming to eat here on the long weekend because if I had known about the service this restaurant offers, I would have definitely reconsidered another restaurant. I came for lunch with the girls on a Saturday afternoon around 2pm. The restaurant was not crazy busy but there were a few tables. Our waiter (who also turned out to be the manager) showed up a few minutes later with a nonchalant attitude and boringly asked us what we would like to drink, and if we had any questions about the menu. There was no enthusiasm in his tone whatsoever, and all of us recognized his poor attitude immediately. He dropped water glasses off for us at the table, and the water tasted horrible! It tasted as if it was dirty, or not filtered. He came back to take our orders and little did we know that it would take over half an hour to make our meal. We waited and waited, and waited some more. After 25 minutes we began questioning where our food was. Being a server myself, I know it does not take half an hour to make four dishes, 3 of them being quesadillas and one sandwich. After 35 minutes, we asked him what was taking so long, and if he forgot our meal. He said he knew it had been awhile and told us he had been yelling at the kitchen staff to hurry it up. I highly doubt that because we had seen him on the floor of the restaurant the whole time, chatting away to the bartender. Our food finally arrived and one of the girls asked for a coke because we had all been starving while waiting for our food, and when he dropped the coke off, he let us know that the coke was "on the house", as if he went over the top for us, and actually WAITED for us to say "thank you". A coke costs $3, it's not much to brag about. You're a manager who's given us terrible service and a terrible attitude. We couldn't care less if the coke was "on the house" because all we wanted was the food we had been waiting so patiently for.
He didn't apologize at all for the slow service, and the food was just mediocre. My friend ordered a quesadilla that had broccoli and snowpeas in it.. which did not say on the menu. Consistency is the key to a successful restaurant and Charlie Don't Surf definitely does not have it. The servers have no manners and are not polite at all. I would recommend everyone who reads the reviews on this restaurant NOT to eat here. There are a dozen other restaurants located on the beach that I'm sure can provide you with better service and better food.
We asked to speak to the manager about the poor quality our server gave us, but it turns out our server was the manager!!! We were all appalled at the attitude of this man, and were disgusted that we even had to give our money to the restaurant for their horrendous service. He rudely walked through us without even saying "excuse me" and attended to his other tables. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't earn many tips with his attitude, because I would never give him a single penny.
He definitely needs an attitude check because he did not give a crap about his customers and his attitude towards us was disgusting.
This restaurant has got to have the worst service I have ever seen. The food is just mediocre, but my girlfriends and I waited over 30 minutes for our food to arrive, when the restaurant wasn't even busy! To top it off, our server spent his time chatting to the bartender instead of serving us. He was rude, and didn't apologize for the horrible service he gave us. He rudely walked through us and did not even treat us like customers.
The atmosphere of the restaurant is not bad. Very beachy and if the service and quality of the food improved, I would come back. But to the owner of this restaurant, I highly recommend you train your servers correctly and teach them some manners.
A group of friends and I decided to enjoy the weather down in beautiful white rock as well as some food. We made the mistake of choosing a decent looking place on the main drag called "Docks ". Docks has a decent view of the beach and appeared to have an authentic British fish and chips menu, we all had cod and chips. The food itself wasn't terrible however the complete lack of service and friendliness was downright palatable. No waters brought, the beers and food arrived at the same time after a lengthy wait and the server was not seen again till we flagged her down for the bills. Upon paying there was zero hospitality or thanks for our patronage, needless to say the tips we did leave reflected our dissatisfaction. Do yourself a favor and go anywhere else on the strip for fish and chips because there are plenty of better options.
I had been craving Thai all summer and had picked up a take out menu from Leela Thai. I was pleasantly surprised that the menu offered quite a few authentic Thai dishes. I called up at 9 pm and kitchen was still open so placed the order of Som Tum, Yum Pla Goong, Red Chicken Curry and Tom Yum Gai soup.
Food was ready for pick up in 20 mins. However, when I opened the box containing the Yum Pla Goong I thought we had received the incorrect salad. I had ordered a prawn salad that cost $10.95. My first thought was Where are the prawns? There were 4 small prawns mixed in the greens. It was very disappointing.
I called to ask the restaurant about the salad and was rudely told that if I did not like it that I should not order it. Apparently, that is the prawn salad - 4 small prawns in a pile of spices and herbs. There was absolutely no customer service and not only was she rude about it but she also hung up on me while I was talking. She said it was fine for me to blog about the horrible service and that's why I am writing this review now. I have never written one before nor have I had any real reason to until this evening. But I felt it was important to share how horrible the service and attitude is of the Leela Thai restaurant.
The flavours of the food were good and my husband thought the dishes were delicious though he did agree that they were on the small side.
We will not be ordering from there again as it over-priced and the staff are rude. I would rather suffer through another Thai craving than order from Leela Thai again.
Went there for birthday celebration on a weekday night. Ordered 3 entrees, all turned out reasonable & in good portion, came with free & fresh bread. Fish was fresh but could have more sauce, pasta tasted sound of dry & bland, the duck was alright. Interior deco was classy but the music played on DOV was totally not suitable for the atmosphere. Service was quite efficient considering there was only one waiter doing everything in the dining room.
I came in with a friend during one of our rare summer sunny days. We wanted to find a place with a new view of the beach on the patio and we found Jan's. Staff was friendly and attentive but mindful of the fact that we did not want to be interrupted every 1 minute. We ordered tapas and drinks and we enjoyed it all - shared the fish n' chips snack style, pulled pork, calamari bowl. Prices were reasonable and the portions were fair. The patio was set up nicely and we had a great view of the water. The interior seemed nice enough too but can't say for certain since we never ate inside. I'm glad I found this venue and would visit again/recommend to friends.
Three of us went out on Friday the 13th for dinner to celebrate a birthday and take in the scenery. Made a reservation for 6:00 (inside) but managed to get a spot on the roof deck around about the same time. The waitress (S-Celine) was very friendly and was there whenever we needed her. She made us feel comfortable and did not try to rush us at all. Nice smile and good sense of humour.
The food - halibut fish & chips, sweet Thai chili chicken and Yam fries were excellent. the beers and drinks were cold and yummy and the Monte Cristo coffee finished it off nicely. Good experience. Would not think twice about going again!! Keep up the good work!
I never researched reviews on Chalie Don't Surf before my FIance and I went there yesterday after spending some time at the beach, and I'm glad that I didn't. The reviews alone would have made me reconsider choosing this resteraunt over the many others on the strip.
Both my Fiance and I had a great experience at this resteraunt and we would both go back again. We asked for a table out of the sun and we had both just finished spending a few hours out in it and we got a table just inside the garage doors, so we got the view and the breeze without sitting in direct sunlight. The atmosphere was great, even though the resteraunt was full of people we could still carry on a conversation at a normal tone and not have to worry about not being able to hear the other person. The waitress was friendly and brought our drinks and took our order promptly as well as was always there to refill our waters when they started to get low. We ordered the nachos as a starter to share and they came out within 10 minutes and were large enough to share as well as they were delicious. For our main my fiance ordered the regular beef burger with fries and i had the cajun chicken burger with a side ceasar salad. They had the time between us finishing our appetizer and when they brought out the main timed perfectly so we had time to sit and talk and relax before the main came. My finace loved his burger and it didn't take him long to devour the whole thing, his fries were also amazing and i did end up eating quite a few of them. My chicken burger was cooked perfectly and whatever sauce they put on it was AMAZING. The side ceasar was over dressed in my opinion (but i like next to no salad dressing on my salads and that was my fault for not asking for the dressing on the side). I had half my burger and my fiance had fries left over so we took those to go. The bill is usually the part of dining that takes the longest to come and we had no problem this time. The waitress made sure we were content and ready to go before she brought us the bill as not to make it seem like we were being rushed.
Over all i was very happy with the food, wait staff, ambiance, and cleanliness of the resteraunt and i would definitely go back there and reccomend it to friends!
Today I took a girl that I volunteer with to the Boathouse in White Rock as a treat. We went to the roof top patio as she has never been and I wanted her to enjoy the experience. We were seated right away and from then on nothing went well. After waiting for 10 min (and watching new arrivals get served right away) I finally had to go and ask if we had a server. One came by apoligizing saying our waitress must have missed us and took our order. When our meals came, our salads we asked for were fries, and the cod was halibut. Needless to say we had to pay an extra $5 per meal for halibut, even though it was not what we ordered. When I asked about the bill indicating we ordered cod not halibut (yes many say they enjoy halibut better but I prefer cod), we were told that the other waitress must have made a mistake (again)...and it was halibut we ate so it is what we have to pay for and they were not willing to make any adjustments. So after paying over $50.00 for 2 meals and one soft drink we left feeling disapointed. Next time we will go to one of the smaller fish n chip restaurants. While the view is not as good, the service and food is much better. I felt aweful as this was a treat to her, and it turned out to be a disapointment.
Hands down easily the best breakfast place in town!
Love the family owned small restaurant feel and the food is excellent. I love the eggs benedict here and scones and their carrot cake is to die for! the breakfast potatoes that go with the meal are crispy, have a nice mild kick and wonderful flavour.
The service is friendly. I always go during "off" times so it's not busy and service is prompt and quick. I have heard when it is busy (especially on weekend morning) that service slows down quite a bit.
Strongly encourage visiting this restaurant!
My husband and I had made reservations here for our anniversary. We were seated promptly by the friendly hostess. Our server had recommended a nice red wine for us which was perfect. It was a busy night and the food did take a bit to be served but we had ordered appetizers (kalamari and saganaki) which were delish!
My husband ordered rack of lamb, he loved it, it was cooked perfectly and marinated just enough. I had the moussaka which was by far the best I 've had,. Our server was so kind as to bring us an anniversary dessert platter and two flaming sambucas on the house. We were pleasantly surprised. Its a shame the review below was so unhappy. We will definitely be going again!
This place provide us with terrible service. Long,long wait for anyone to take our order and then another long, long wait to be served food that was not noteworhty in portion or quality. They are missing out on a great opportunity to take adavantage of a good location for their business.
I am so glad we decided to try Jans on the Beach. My boyfriend and I usually go to Uli's on the strip but decided to try something different. We were greeted and sat right away, also with a hello from the Chef (really cool open kitchen concept). They had Sangria on special so we had a jug of that, it was delicious, lots of fresh fruit in it too! yumm.
I ordered the Prawn trio, I have never had a dish like that, I got 3 different vibrant salads with 9 prawns, each a different flavour. My boyfriend got the Fish and Chips, of course, which he loved! It was in bite size pieces for dipping which was different, but enough for a meal.
I would totally recommend Jans! She even came out after our meal and asked how everything was and even got to know us a bit, super friendly staff, clean, awesome food! oh and beautiful bathrooms !!

Had the 1 piece cod and chips. The cod was very good, but the chips were mediocre. Slow service, only 1 servor on duty. I feel that $9.99 for a 1 piece of cod and chips is expensive. There are better deals around with better service. There are so many better places in White Rock to eat.
My husband & I have been long time residents of White Rock & many years ago we used to love Cosmos. However, it is nothing like it used to be. We have been in many times over the years & each time is more & more disappointing. We went two weeks ago with some family that had not been there for some time & really wanted to go. We did not wish to go there but we also wanted our family to be happy. So we went & had a very average meal. At that time we were happy to see that another server from another restaurant had become an employee of Cosmos & were very please as she is fabulous. So tonight we decided that we would give Cosmos another chance. Unfortunately, she was not our server, but that was ok. We wish we had never given Cosmos another chance. It was terrible. I have never written anything online EVER before but this is absolutely warranted. We both ordered the steak & lobster dinners. My husbands steak was cooked as per his request but he noted that the lobster & rest of his meal was lousy. I ordered a medium rare steak & mine came well-done. At this time there was 6 tables with people at them & 5 or 6 servers. The server did offer to replace my steak, however, by the time she came back, my husband had already almost finished & our dinner had already been spoiled. The server said she would talk to her manager & have her sort out the issue for the bill. The server also told us that she is extremely frustrated as this steak issue happens often by the kitchen staff. She did apologize profusely, however it is NOT her fault. It is a management issue. Due to the fact that it is not the servers fault we tipped her our usual generous percentage. She did contact the manager regarding our bill & the manager was only willing to take off $10 for the steak portion my meal. Our bill was $105.00 with tip. I hope it was worth saving the rest of the cost of meal as they have lost a good paying customer for good. We were also one of the loyal customers that come for dinner in the slow winter months. We will never return as there are many other options in White Rock these days.
Not doubt charlie can't surf... He also can't run a service based restaurant either. While his hiring practices are "a la Cactus Club" he forgot to check to see if his team knows how to listen and be polite. Ooops... guess that doesn't matter to Charlie. Don't let the location fool you, the service and food is as bad as Charlie's ability to surf. Stay away.
We enjoy the variety Indian restaurants offer and we have tried each Indian restaurant in White Rock and we are working our way through every Indian restaurant in Surrey. When we come to our vacation home in White Rock we always go back to the Sidharth Grill for a terrific meal. This is a very small restaurant run by 2 people with a passion for good food. The wife greeted us the first time we came and now a year later she knows us even after months away. She remembers our likes and dislikes and makes suggestions that are always pleasing. The complete dinner is a feast for 2 or more days. It is like having a personal chef. No other Indian cuisine restaurant in BC has come close to matching the perfection of these personalized dinners. Because each meal is cooked to taste don't expect fast food. It takes a little time to make food this good.
It was our first night in White Rock since buying a condo here and decided we'd look for an "easy" dinner. I noticed the 2 for 1 coupon in the local paper and we decided to try Italian. It is hard to find a good Italian restaurant if you don't care to settle for just pizza. We were seated at a pleasant table but when we presented our coupon and declined ordering wine (I can't drink) the waiter's expression changed from smile to disdain. We placed our order and never saw that waiter again. We saw him smiling and attending at all the tables around us but our food arrived from the kitchen and we never saw "help" after we were seated. I ordered salmon with a sauce. How can you do that wrong? The sauce was a thick heavy and tasteless goo. Basically a below grade tv dinner. We won't be back but I wanted to tell somebody why. After all the restaurant had a perfect opportunity to impress new people with their cuisine. My mind was open and now it is shut, at least about La Baia.
