I went here with a friend and felt that I had walked into a small French cafe. My friend has been here before and we were greeted warmly by both of the owners (hostess/waitress and the chef). We sat down and menus were brought promptly, including the Daily Specials sheet. After a few minutes our orders were taken and our selected wine was brought. The wine was a French red, which I found to be delicious. I had decided not to have an appetizer since the daily dessert specials were displayed on the front counter and I wanted to save room for dessert. I had the Croque Normand with pomme frites and a fresh salad and my friend had an omelet (with goat cheese in it) with pommes frites and a fresh salad. The food was delivered very quickly and I found that my Croque Normand was sublime. The ham and cheese inside the homemade bread was warmed nicely and the camembert on top was melted and wonderful. The salad had a homemade dressing which I found to be delicious. The pommes frites were shoestring-size, crisp and fresh. My friend gave me a taste of his omelet (which had been cooked to order - with the eggs soft in the middle) and I felt that next time I come to this restaurant that I will have one of their omelets. Once our meals were finished our dishes were cleared and the rest of our wine was poured. The hostess/waitress informed us that she would return when we were ready for coffee and our dessert. After approximately 30 minutes we were ready for dessert and we both had the Upsidedown Apple Tarte. The tarte was warmed and served with vanilla ice cream and fresh whipped cream. I found that this was a perfect finish for a wonderful French luncheon. This was a first time visit for me, but definitely not a last visit.
Locals will know this as the old "Gills 'n' Grapes" restaurant, which had a funny location down at the foot of 152nd (Johnston) and an equally strange identity problem.
No more - it's now a designer steakhouse (+ lounge) run by the same group who opened Pearl down on the beach a couple years ago. And if you liked Pearl, but wish the menu skewed a little more red-meat, then you're going to be happy here. It's a great looking room, the service is outstanding, and while the menu and wine list are a touch limited it is inventive and won't break the bank even if you do order starters/sides/drinks/desserts. Which is exactly as it should be given the size of the restaurant.
The food is solid, but won't blow your mind the way a bone-in rib or filet at Gotham will. But then again, why should it? You're not driving into Vancouver, paying the valet to park your car, and then driving 40 minutes back home again. Plus you're going to get out of there with a tab about half the size.
There might be 4 or 5 places like this in Vancouver at this point but if you live out here, why bother? Which is not to say I'm giving it a pass just because it's convenient - the concept and execution are really top notch, and we had a great time there last night. I'll certainly be back again soon, and often!
PS: Not affiliated with the restaurant in any way; just a happy customer!
My Family and I used to go to this place regularly but not anymore.
This used to be the absolute BEST of the best. Unfortunately, I guess with the hard times we have had as of this year and the later part of last year, they have adjusted the size of the fish filets. No longer great fish as they have sliced it in half! They were nice juicy thick filets but now they are so thin they could be chips or wafers.
I would rather pay more for the same thing. I know prices go up...but the size of the fish is what made this fish so good and tasty. Their batter if very nice though. Still is the best batter on fish unlike the cackey or doughy types that you find.
We don't go here anymore.
We came here for the Dineout Dinner and enjoyed it. Since it was an early dinner time, the restaurant wasn't overly busy and our food came out pretty quickly and our server was doing the rounds quite often. The firecracker prawns were nice, the seafood chowder a little bland & the steaks were well done. The portions were just right for a light dinner. We weren't rushed to eat our meals and left satisfied.
MMMMMMMMM!!!! Love Mobys fish and chips! We make special trips down to white rock beach in the summer time just to go to Mobys and grab some fish and chips and sit on the beach and eat! The fish is awesome, you always get an extra piece, fries are always delicious and the tartar sauce is one of the best I've had! Have been going there for years and will continue to do so!
Completely agree with CoastalCook. My husband and I have been eating here for years, however that will no longer be the case. On the last 3 occasions , the fish was so greasy and dried out that it was completely inedible. The fries that sat beneath were disgusting, greasy and limp. The first time the owner apologized with no retribution offered, the second time we were told that" no one had complained before and we change our oil once a week?", and the last time no apology or reason was offered at all. That's the extent of our supporting a local restaurant. Save your time, your money and your health by going elsewhere.
Wife and I both ordered the (Turkey) Schnitzel Dinner with all the fixin's. The most expensive plate on the menu at $11,95 per. The menu lists a choice of over 40 items. EVERYTHING TURKEY!
Breakfast from 9 to 11 am. Dinner servie ends at 6pm.
GREAT service, CLEAN, Fast...
As I said "Could be 'The find of the year!".
Went there recently, and I personally love the tapas style. There food was wonderful(Try there brushcetta) My wife and I went when they were extremly quiet so we got very good service, I've heard some things when they are busy so we went right when they opened. Overall good food and a nice spot on the beach.
While in whiterock we were looking for a place to eat...many of the patio's were full...too full actually. Charlie's was busy but was able to get us a table (rather than the 1 hour waits of the other places). Although the place itself is pretty plain the view is amazing. The food however was not so great. Our waitress of promt and very friendly. We started with the nacho's, which were okay, but when we moved on the starters we were less then impressed. The pasta was way to salty, and the chicken in the burger was very dry. I would recommend this place for drinks and nacho's only. For mains move on to somewhere else.
OK, so all I am going to say about our visit to this place is: sunny fall day, lunchtime, crowded, bad food but most memorable of all...mice running around on the floor of the restaurant! I kid you not...I barely touched my food I was so discusted. I mean I know that they have open patios but in a crowded, almost full restaurant in the middle of the day? What goes on in there at night when noone is around? eeeeeeewwwwww! I won't be darkening their door again.
A friend told us to give this place a try so we went there for dinner. We were pleasantly surprised by this place. The decor is kinda scattered but the food was really good. I had a couple of the sushi rolls. The White Rock Roll is definitely one of my favourites. The Dynomite Roll was one of the best I've tried. My wife liked the Agedashi Tofu and the Tuna & Salmon Sashimi. The fish was fresh and the presentation was good. Service was okay and the menu is a little more expensive than some of the other places I've been to but you get what you pay for. Going to give this place another shot with some friends so I can try some more of their rolls.
Of all the 6 times we have made the trip out to White Rock, specifically to eat at the Boathouse, we have never been disappointed. We were fortunate to have a table with great views each time and this made the experience more memorable. The service was good and the food was consistently great. I have no complaints with this restaurant. Each time we visited we planned for a leisurely lengthy evening of food and drink and this location serves our needs.
Ive been told about this restaurant but we are in langley its a bit to far for us usually ,well we happened to be in whiterock as we were sight seeing with some friends out for christmas who love thai food.As we entered the restaurant we were greeted with a warm smile and a comfortable thai setting with thai music playing softly in the background it really gave it a authentic feel.We did have a little wait but the place was full, a good sign.It was well worth it the food,Wow ,the currys were out of this world, the red, green curry with eggplant, chilli beef ,gang musman and i wont forget the deep fryed bannana with ice cream. We found the Leela Thai Restaurant to be a wonderful thai dining experience ,fair prices as you do get a lot of food....We will be back.
Went for dinner on Friday night to Cosmos Greek Restaurant. We made reservations, we were seated right away, sat near the cozy fireplace. The waitress came right away to get drink orders. We received very good service, we were never looking for the waitress. Which was a nice change! I had ordered the lamb shoulder (kleftiko). It was fabulous! Sooo tender and flavorful! I thoroughly enjoyed it. My friends all had souvlaki, they said it was very good. We decided to split two desserts between the four of us. The dessert that stood out was the Bougatsa, it was amazing!... very very good!!
We had a good experience and enjoyable evening there and look forward to going back.
Search no further if you enjoy spicy food. A wide variety of authentic Asian cooking representing Malaysian, Singaporean, and Chinese dishes, among others. They have a special Sambal sauce which adds a sharp and spicy flavour. Just the thought of it makes my mouth water. Best to make a reservation if you don't plan to wait.
Good, solid food. The Lamb Kleftiko just melts in my mouth. Souvlakis are also well recommended. Very friendly service. Pleasant surroundings with a good view of the Semiahmoo Bay. Parking on and across the street may be a bit tough to find on weekend evenings in summer. But this does not discourage me.
