Took my aunt to this restaurant on a Thursday night and we were the only ones there to be served. asked the young waitress for a monte cristo coffee drink and she responded by asking me how to make it. I told her just don't forget the sugared rim and the whip cream. My aunt had to go through three drinks before the waitress hit the one she could make,( rye and coke ). my drink came without whip and she said that someone went out to buy some, never got it. meal came and was fine, the constant smell of sewage from the washrooms wrecked it. went to pay with a $100 bill and she asked how much change I wanted back and I said " all of it " Her and other staff for the next 10 min struggled to find 63.00 that was owed to me by getting it out of their purses and wallets, then she shorts me by a toonie and when I ask for it she says " I will try and find you one ". Keep in mind that she was very nice and polite the whole meal. That was not the problem at all. It was the very poor management and guidance for the staff and being unprofessional and unprepared and we were just one table to handle. I nicely told the waitress of my complaints and said that we will not be back.
Leela Thai has been one of our "go to" places for years but, for some reason, we hadn't been for a while. So when we were trying to decide on where to go for our anniversary we decided on Leela Thai because we had always found the food to be fresh and delicious and the service excellent. Well, to say we were disappointed is an understatement. The place is in need of a good cleaning and the food quality has declined significantly. We ordered chicken satay for an appetizer - it was very bland and not at all the savory taste we were looking forward to. We also ordered a green curry and a chicken dish. Both were bland and disappointing and the portions are considerably smaller than they used to be. We ordered a 1/2 liter of wine when we came in and it totally baffled the servers. They didn't know what it was, couldn't find it and couldn't open it. Also, in the middle of our dinner, a woman a couple of tables away actually changed her baby's diaper right at the table in the dining room and nobody said anything to her. It was such a disappointing experience for our anniversary that we were in and out of there in an hour.
Unfortunately we will not be going back.
My large family and I had a chance to go to Onyx for a family birthday dinner. There was 20 of us include two children. They allowed us to bring in some small decor peices for the tables before hand, and everything was handled so well. The kids meals were brought out first, and everything was hot and to order.. even the gluten/lactose/veg/vegan type meals. :) The server was responsive, honest about the menu items and could answer all our questions easily. and my 30 minute caesar cocktail was delicious! One of may fav items on both the Onyx and Pearl (white rock) menus is the salt and vinager chips. A great, easy item to share and are super addictive! We had a fabulous night, and the kitchen was hopping and in sync. Can't wait to go back!
The ambiance and the staff are fantastic. Looked after our every need. We were out for dinner but not that hungry so we chose to share several appys. we do not get to go out much so we were looking forward to it. The appys looked wonderful. The bacon tempura unusual and while the bacon itself was tasty the acompanying sauce was much less then stellar. It tasted like store bought stock sauce. I love french onion soup so I wanted a hot bowl, it was freezing cold night. The soup was sweet not savoury and barely warm. Not what I wanted or enjoy. We also order sliders to share. Disappointing, meat on a bun, no flavour lastly we ordered salt and vinigar chips (homemade, sound great right) disappointingly SALTY. if not for the water we would not have been able to eat it at all. Needless to say we left hungry and went to tried and true and my husband made me a wonderful lamb chop with Kale salad that ended up being exactly what we needed. So much for date night away from the kids. We ended up sharing a nice meal with the kids on date night. We will try again. I hope we ar not disappointed like this again. Maybe stick to tried and true next time
We came here an enjoyed amazing food and wine, great company and fantastic ocean view.Although not my first thought when we go to place to dine:it is always a plesure. The service is always pleasant ,the food is always delicious, hearty and flavourful, clean and simple. The decor is unique, with an old - new world twist. One of my favorite Italian restaurants in the city.Service is great,a mix between older server, younger hosts and everything in between; everyone is always attentive and super nice.I've been here for receptions; intimate dinners;parties;tasting, lunch etc and have always enjoyed my time.A must.
Having food at West beach is not a cheap affair, Jollys is offering a fresh menu with good prices and I can feed the kids for $5.00...all in all the place is fun, consistent and I was able to have a few drinks with my wife while the kids were kept busy....The goat cheese salad was the stand out item for us...so I would say a solid 4 out 5.
We have been going to La Baia for many, many years and have always been extremely pleased with both the food and the service. There are very few places anymore that provide such outstanding service without being intrusive and annoying. The servers here are more professional than anywhere else in the area. The food is always fresh, well prepared and excellent. The portions are very reasonable without being foolish. The pasta dishes are always delicious and the veal dishes are fantastic as well. Whenever we want to go somewhere a bit special, we always pick La Baia. The only constructive criticism I can provide is that the décor of the restaurant is extremely dated and in need of a make-over. Having said that, the restaurant is clean and well maintained. La Baia is a great place to go when you want to be assured of a great experience.
I was in the mall last weekend and went to have pizza there and it was hot and fresh...the person serving was nice and polite.
The place looked clean and organized....found out that they do delivery and catering too.
They have a good menu..you can get pasta and vegetarian meals there as well.
The pizzas are fantastic except they operate like a doctors office. They give you an appointment time for pick up but expect to wait before you can see your food, so if they say 45 expect a 20-30 minute wait on top of that. The last time I was there, they over charged me but luckily during my "wait" I was able to verify the amount and get it corrected. If it was in and out, I would have overpaid. Great pizzas though, just make sure you give yourself enough time.
It was with mixed feelings that I took my mom and a friend to the West Beach Grill on Saturday for dinner. I had been there a few times before and wasn't too impressed with the food or service. However, this was my mom's favourite White Rock restaurant so I shelved my misgivings and agreed to go. The experience we had was so bad that I feel compelled to share it.
First of all, at 5:30 the restaurant wasn't at all busy, which I thought would be a good thing. We'd get our food hot and fresh. Our server appeared at our table in a dress so short and sheer and low cut I thought she was wearing a slip. This might attract some customers (mostly male I'd think) but for a group of women it was embarrassing. Especially as the sun shining through the flimsy fabric of her dress showed off her southern attributes which didn't appear to have much in the way of undercovering.
My mom (who is 80) ordered a chicken club sandwich, my friend a hamburger. I asked about the House salad and was given a very vague and not very appetizing description of what was in it. Our server did explain that the menu was a brand new menu. So I went safe and I ordered chicken wings extra crispy. Our meal arrived 10 minutes after ordering it minus the chicken wings. The order was wrong. The waitress put a hamburger in front of my mom, told her that when she had entered her chicken sandwich in the computer, there had been a glitch due to the NEW Menu and the order came up hamburger. Not wanting to be "difficult" and because the server had already put the burger in front of her, my mom reluctantly accepted the hamburger. The waitress came back a few minutes later and offered us Calamari to make up for the error in the order. We thanked her and refused the Calamari. She said no problem, she could give it away to someone else. (Which made me think "was the calamari another computer glitch and she was just trying to give it away?") And I still didn't have MY meal. About 10-15 minutes after my mom and my friend got their meals, I got my meal. A plate of what appeared to be under-cooked chicken wings, definitely NOT crispy as ordered. We probably sat there for 20 minutes not enjoying our dinner, listening to some guy do sound checks, while being ignored by our server. Our server came up to the table once to offer my mom a refill of coffee and walked away without offering us refills of water or even asking us how our meal was. Yes, we could have asked for a refill of water but by this time I'm just wanting to get out of there. The guy blowing up party balloons blew too hard and popped one, startling me so badly I put out my neck.
As far as the food went....When I complained to our server about the raw looking chicken wings , I got a look and a smirk that left no doubt in my mind she didn't believe me. She took the wings away to box them up, (if I was paying for them, I was taking them home to recook them). Then she came back to our table and said that she'd taken the chicken wings to the kitchen to check them to see if they were undercooked, and took them off the bill because they were actually quite under-cooked. I left them at the table. She took 1/2 off my mom's meal because she was given a burger rather than a chicken sandwich. The fries which looked good, were really under-cooked. The burgers which also looked good were both so dry and rubbery, my mom couldn't bite into hers, and actually had trouble cutting into it with her knife. My friend's burger was the same. Seemed like the burgers had been pre-cooked and left to sit until someone ordered one.
I have tried to contact the owner of the restaurant to make my concerns heard in person, but am unable to reach him by phone. The few times I've called the restaurant I've been told that he's not there and no one seems to know how to get hold of him. Only one of the numbers on his business card is connected, and that's the one to the restaurant. I think it is only fair warning to let other diners know of this experience. If you want to go to the West Beach to ogle scantily clad servers and don't care what your food is like, then you would probably enjoy this restaurant. If you are wanting to have a nice dinner with your friends (especially female), then you might want to go across the street.
Cool little diner in white rock. but in my opinion the food is just average. For the price you pay for the sides, you'd get much larger servings at any other place as well. The hash browns were land and come in a small amount, although they do have very good pancakes. Their pancakes and massive, fluffy, and filling! They are the only thing I would recommend to someone. Since that place is always crowded, the service isn`t the best but not the worst i`ve seen. Overall, it`s a decent breakfast place and I go back from time to time.
This is by far the best sushi in white rock. It is for sure the most expensive but it's because their sushi is superior to most places and the most authentic i've tried. They don't serve the deep fried stuff like most places do, mostly rolls and sashimi and a few appetizers. I've never had to wait more than 20 minutes for it either! The lady working is always pleasant and kind. I would recommend this place to anyone.
This is one of my favourite sushi places to go in White Rock. The food is very fairly priced, and they have the best dynamite rolls! Not to mention the free yam fries they give to every customer and frozen grapes! I've eaten at a lot of sushi places in White Rock and this is for sure the cheapest for the quality of food served. The service is always great and I've never had a complaint. Very nice decor inside as well.
One of my favourite places to grab a bite when I'm on east beach. All the food is made in house and is very fresh. The chicken burrito is my fave, although i've tried most of them and they're all good. The fresh salsa they make is amazing! The guacamole is a $1.50 extra, which I was reluctant to get at first, but it's totally worth it for the amount you get and the freshness of the avacado. The staff are all very nice and friendly as well.
I was looking for a new place to try, and was not disappointed. The food here was very good, and the batter wasn't exceptionally heavy or greasy as this style of food often is. None of it was overcooked and dry as is so easy to do with fish. The owner chatted with us some and seemed overall pleasant. Very good, and will likely return at some point. :)
Nothing wrong wrong with the fish and chips, just very ordinary. Service was quick and efficient. It is certainly better than Dock's fish and chips (also in White Rock). For me the best fish and chips in the Vancouver area are Montgomery's fish and chips at the Lonsdale Quay, and Go Fish near Granville Island.
Been here a few times now since it was taken over and refreshed into the Hemingway. I have to say this is probably one of the better spots on the strip. It's very disappointing that all restaurants and bars in the area are so busy that nobody really cares about quality or service. I'm so happy that the Hemingway has addressed that issue and they are spot on but could still use a little help with service. Overall a great choice for all ages.
Went to The Rustic Gourmet recently with two friends. I ordered the Mexican chicken wrap, one friend ordered the fresh turkey sandwich on cranberry pumpkin seed bread and another friend ordered the ham and cheese quiche. Everything was very fresh and very good. The house salad that accompanies the dishes is excellent with pieces of fresh orange and toasted, sliced almonds. The ambiance isn't great as it is located in a curling rink but it is worth a try if you like really fresh food. Their baked goods are excellent as well.
There is no better ice cream anywhere in the Lower Mainland or Vancouver for that matter than Dolce Gelato in White Rock. If you ever had the opportunity to try real Italian Gelato in Italy, you know what I am talking about. The ice cream is freshly made every day. The flavours are all natural - no additives, no artificial flavors. They use local products which are in season. Is there a specific flavour I prefer? Oh boy, there are many!!! Try the baccio or the pistachio (I have never ever had a better pistachio anywhere, not even in Italy!) or strawberry or chocolate; the hazelnut is to die for, ricotta with caramelized pecan nuts.... YUMMY!!! If you like to try a real Italian flavour, try Cassata, but you have to like candied fruits. Davide is a trained ice cream maker from Italy. If you step through the door of Dolce Gelato you have the feeling of being in Italy on vacation. If I could give 10 stars, I would certainly do that.
I can start this review by stating that Dock's serves Fish and Chips. It's just that. These aren't grade-A Fish and Chips and they aren't a big mess either. They're decent. To go a little deeper, the fish has a nice, crunchy batter and the fries are slightly below average. I also had the clam chowder, also very average. You're not getting anything here that you can't get a few steps in either direction.
That's what makes rating the ambiance of this place so hard. It's a bit run down but you go to a place like this for the patio. You ARE getting a lovely view on a nice day, but it's the same view that, again, you can get just steps away! The other options nearby DO serve fish and chips and have more extensive menus with better service.
The service... oh dear. You can not care about service at all and it'll still put you off. Our server said maybe three words to us the entire night, and was absent as our water ran empty, or as we hoped for the bill. The bill is going to come to around what you'd expect for Fish and Chips too, probably around 15-25 each, depending on what kind of fish you want. Portions are fair-sized, but if you're like me, you'll tire of the bland fries before finishing them all.
Honestly, avoid this place. If you're looking for a place to sit and everywhere else is full, just keep walking. You'll find a spot and you don't want to settle for here, not when there are so many nice little places on the beach.
