Yucca Tree Cafe is always busy for breakfast over the weekend, you can wait anywhere between 10 to 20 minutes for a table. Its a very tight fit inside; poor layout is mostly to blame. After a 10 minute wait for a table (not bad), three of us were seated at a two-person table (fair enough). It took a further 10 minutes before the waitress came over to ask our drink orders - despite all the tables being taken, no one appeared to eating (I assume they were waiting for meals or finishing up), which didnt explain why everything took so long. About 15 minutes (!) later, she appeared with a coffee carafe and filled our cups. So, 35 minutes after entering we received our coffee. At this point the timeline hadnt started to us much however, but after taking our meal order it took a FURTHER 45 MINUTES for it to arrive! IT WAS NOT AS BUSY to warrant a wait like that!
Additionally, the Eggs Yuccadict (Benedict) was a let down - stick to the regular breakfast which is particulary greasy (some like it that way I guess). Never saw our waitress again, went upfront to ask for the bill. If youre looking for a healthy cooked breakfast; this is not the place. If youre looking to test your morning patience; this is the place!
Overall, a dismal experience at best!
We went here for breakfast and were very happy with the food. They had homemade bread, great pan fries, and fresh squeezed orange juice. My fiance and I both got the Captain Yucca Breakfast (3 eggs, ham, bacon, pan fries, and toast).
The price was about average for a breakfast place. I consider it outstanding value because the breakfast was far better than I've received in other restaurants for the same price.
I don't have complaints about the service. It is a casual sort of place so I didn't mind having to ask to get my water refilled. Our order was taken shortly after we sat down and the food came in a reasonable period of time.
It is a casual, small restaurant with most tables seating 2. There are two tables to seat 4. It is a little crowded when most of the tables are occupied and there are 3 waitresses serving.
This small restaurant is the perfect place to come to if you are looking for a healthy hearty breakfast or lunch. The women who run it are all very friendly and welcoming. The bread they use for their dishes is fresh and homemade. Very flavorful and delicious. They use very good ingredients in their dishes (the salads are always super fresh). The pan fries are to die for.....they can be ordered plain (so good), but also with cheddar cheese and onion, hollandaise sauce, mexican style, screamin' hot buzzard and with sour cream and onion. I haven't tried all of these but that's what return visits will be for. They bake something called a muff-out, which is basically a very tasty healthy raspberry bran muffin top, crunchy and moist inside. Delicious! I really can't tell you how good most of their menu is because everything I've had has been incredible. They offer wonderful vegetarian options as well. Really, their salads, soups, sandwiches, burgers for lunch are all so good....very generous but homemade and you'll feel healthier after eating almost anything on the menu.
Limited seating since it's quite small, so not a place to go if you are more than 4 people probably.
Very highly recommended.
I was on a rare visit to White Rock yesterday and was initially planning to check out the 5 Corners Cafe. However, it was almost empty and the Yucca Tree was full so I had to check it out. Their focus is breakfast/brunch items and the menu is massive: The breakfast section has 'Eggs & Stuff', french toast and waffles, wraps, and oats and fruit. The lunch section has sandwiches, burgers, salads, and homemade soups. Many of the items you can get in a small size.
I had the 'French toast, bacon, and pan fries special' that was a really good deal for $7.95. Coffee was tasty and service was very friendly, if a bit scattered at times. I talked with the owner, who's had the place for about 5 years. Apparently this place has been around for decades, with basically the same menu, just different ownership. They're definitely doing something right. Highly recommended.
My best friend and I wanted to do Sunday brunch and we picked this place becaue it was packed. We got seated and then waited for 10 minutes for someone to come by and ask us what we wanted to drink. My best friend asked for the freshly squeezed orange juice and I wanted tea. My tea came 10 minutes later but my friend's juice didn't. We didn't think anything of it. Just figured they were juicing it and it would be out soon. Someone finally comes to take our food order and we wait another 20 minutes for the food which is fine. Still no juice for my friend. And no water. Isn't it a basic courtesy to give water to your clients even without them asking for it?
Our food finally comes and we dig in. It was solid breakfast food.
My friend still does not have anything to drink and we ask a 3rd time about the juice. The server looks confused and then says she will go and check. In the meanwhile, 2 parties who were seated and ordered after us have gotten their requested juices.
We are almost done our meal when our server finally returns saying she will give us the juice now if we want. My friend says just forget it now.
We go up to pay after finishing, and the juice is on the bill! We tell the person at the til that we never got the juice. We get our total and pay cash. And we don't get the right change back. She gave us less than she was supposed to.
I would let that go and say error happens but given the whole experience, I just think the service is horrific and I will never go back.
I had their club house sandwich last week. WOW...... they stack it high and with their pan fries which are the best ever it makes a great lunch. They have a novel selection of breakfast and lunch items which allows for variety of choice each time you go. Their burgers are totally home made, fresh and delicious. I had the Mexican burger it was fantastic. Most times for breakfast and lunch they are busy but it doesn't take too long before you are seated.
As everything is made fresh and from scratch it takes a while but the customers seem to find the wait worth it. I would recommend you give them a try. I guarantee it won't be your only visit once you give them.
