Wings is more than just a NY style wing place with a wide combination of wings and sauces. We are also a Sports bar, complete with a full menu featuring everything from salads to appetizers to burgers and a variety of pasta dishes. All served in a relaxing, comfortable atmosphere where people like to hang out with friends, watch their favorite game on one of the many TVs and munch on some great wings.
It was guys night out on Monday - a couple of friends and I dropped in for a late night meal. There were only few occupied tables and the waitress sweeping up the floor seated us at a dirty booth with leftover food missiles on the vinyl surfaces.
We ordered the shared platter and 2 varieties of wings totalling two pounds. The standalone wings were decent at best with the meat being a little tough though I favoured the dry rub over the sweet wings. The platter resembled and tasted like something largely assembled from various frozen food delights. The dry ribs looked particularly unappetizing, looking like little coiled up, day old in the sun dog matter and tasting like cheap chinese take out honey garlic spareribs. The token slices of cucumber were soft..We ordered the Bobby Wings, hot wings that were suppose to hurt, and it did. But the taste was all pain, with a charming sour turning to bitter aftertaste. The sodas we ordered were all flat and a subsequent order of ice tea and lemonade came to the table tepid; our server informing us that they had run out of ice. You can never have enough ice, they thought otherwise. Prices are suspiciously inexpensive, so I question how much of the food was actually prepared.
Service was slow. While the waitresses were friendly, they disappeared in the kitchen for long periods. The food and drinks took a while to come out, our drinks coming out north of the thermometer, while our food came out like it had been sitting under the heatlamps. Our waitress informed us nearing the end of the meal that her shift was finishing and she was going to turn in our bill - just so we know. Same waitress later on my way to the washroom hanging out at the booth by the kitchen with the other staff winding down their night while noshing.
The menu is all over the place, from wings to sandwiches to even souvlaki - they even have a kids menu. There is a mash of bar, club and trendy highlights throughout, with a variety of mismatched colours top to bottom - make up your mind! Lots of big tvs throughout the room, however everything else seemed like an afterthought, or castaway items purchased from a Yaletown clearance sale.
It tries to do too much, and ends up offering little. Forget it.
Was at the beach with my daughter, son inlaw and 2 grandchildren on a Friday afternoon and suggested we go to Wings for lunch as I had eaten two or three times at the Wings on King Geo. Hwy and had very postive experiences there although it was about 3 years ago. My daughter and I ordered fish and chips. The fish was quite good, the batter was nice and crispy but the fries were limp and the coleslaw was tasteless. My gr.son and his dad ordered burgers and they were edible but nothing to rave about, their fries too were limp. My gr.daughter ordered the beef dip and asked if she could have a cesaer salad instead of fries and the waitress said yes they could do that. According to my gr.daughter the beef dip was gross! I ordered a Long Island Ice Tea that came in a short 8 ounce glass and was more ice then anything else. First time I've had one in a short glass.
The service was very slow. There was only one other couple sitting outside on the patio and our table inside.Once we ordered our food it took about 40 min to come to the table. I wouldn't want to go there when it was busy. There were 3 waitresses. One was taking the orders the other two were cleaning menu's. The cook seemed to be spending time on the phone. The server we had looked quite stunned when we asked what the specials were. She seemed to zone out for a minute before remembering. Actually kind of comical thinking back on it. When we got our bill a $3.00 charge was added for the cesaer salad. When the server was questioned about it she said she assumed we knew the switch would be extra. After a discussion and our asking for the manager the charge was waived. Other places I have been to tell you there is an extra charge when you ask for a switch not "assume" you'd know! The value is over priced for the quality of food you get there.
As to the ambience, there is none. The restaurant seems quite rundown and the washrooms were not very clean. Would we go back, a resounding no from all of us.
wings has great food, don't get me wrong, but they need a service upgrade.
the waitresses that work there are not very good. i've been there three times and twice out of the three times, they have messed up an order. and one of the times, they messed up twice.
not to mention they have bad attitudes.
love the food. the menu is great. just work on the service and you'll be outstanding.
We used to be big fans of Wings as you just couldn't beat a pitcher of blond ale and pile of wings. However, the steady decline in the quality of these wings is just too much too ignore. The last 4 or 5 times we've been there during the last year have become increasingly worse and our last meal there about a week ago was the clincher. We had the most soggy and tasteless wings we've ever had! The location is great, the service staff were at one time very good and the wings used to hit the spot but last week was the last time we will ever eat in or take out from this location again.
My friend and I arrived at Wings with our children on a Wednesday afternoon during Spring break. They did not appear too busy and had a kids menu which was appealing to us. We had a baby, a 2 year old and two 4 year olds with us. We waited a few minutes before anyone appeared to show us a table. After being shown to our table we were almost immediately "greeted" by the manager who complained about our strollers as we were unloading our children from them. We explained that we were just getting settled and to give us a couple minutes. He returned a few minutes later to complain that his servers would have trouble getting around the strollers to which I asked if there was a place he would prefer we move them too. After a bit of shuffling we were finally seated, but instantly felt as though we were not welcome.
We ordered the "mighty mite" mini burgers for our kids and an appetizer share platter. After 45 minutes from placing our order the manager came by to tell us they were out of mini burgers. At this point I was ready to leave, but we asked how long it would take to get food and he said 5 - 6 minutes. With the kids restless and hungry we decided to stay and got the chicken fingers for the kids instead.
The food was nothing special. We received the share plate before the kids meals and our waitress informed us that the mini burgers would be right out. I guess she didn't get the memo that they were out of mini burgers. When she returned with the kids food shed told us to be careful as one of the kids plates was hot. Why would it be hot unless it was sitting under a heat lamp and if you knew it was going to a child, wouldn't you shift the food to a cool plate to avoid burning a child???
We asked for our bill right away as our parking was about to run out and we were a little surprised and disappointed that we were charged full price for our meals.
The atmosphere was very bar-like - booths and tall bar stools. They had one high chair for my friends baby but she was quite low from where the rest of us were sitting. They also had UFC on the multitude of tvs everywhere - not exactly kid friendly material.
As a pub, I don't think I would have been that disappointed with the environment - but I really question why they have a kids menu.
I would definitely not return here with my kids. Even without my kids, I wouldn't return simply due to the poor service.
I was happy to see a Wings in White Rock while visiting friends, as I go to the one in Downtown a lot. So I was excited to share with my friends the shrimp gyoza. Well this was the confusing part....they have different menus. i thought that since they were a chain that they would have the same menus, so I was suprised to see that I was wrong. The waitress that we had recommended the Salmon Burger that was there special, and I was pleasntaly suprised that it was so so delicious.
If you want great service with a view of the ocean, then go to Wings. Its right on the main strip of White Rock right on the beach...the sand is like a one minute walk away. But I think someone should send a letter to head office to let them know that if they are going to open a bunch of restuarants in a bunch of different citites, then they should probably have the same menu in all of them! (wouldnt it be nice....)
Well, it was my bestfriends sweet 16, and we called in a few days before to book a reservation for twenty people. When we got there they said the person who took our call didn't write our reservation down! So, she told us to wait and we did we walekd around for 45 mins. We came back she said the table is not ready so again we then walked around around came back in another 15 mins. an said they are not ready. WE understood and were pretty easy on them then they put us in the corner we were all squished some of us were standing and we waited for lik another 10 mins. waiting for out table ! We then finally got our seat and we ordered the waitress were rolling there eyes and giving us attitude the whole time like we were nobody?
The food was awesome, i loved it there were so many differnt varites for me to choose from. We had a cake we bought and gave it to them earlier to put it in there freezer it was a surprise cake for my bestfriend. We todl them to bring it out when we were done eating. Then me and my other friend decided we wanted to bring it out and we were going go tell them when we noticed form the kitchen THEY ruined part of our cake.
I was so upset and when they brought the cake out 1/4 of it was missing and it was meltign like crazy they said that "there freezer was broken" thats why its missing a part of it when me an dmy friend saw one waitress didi it. I did complain at the end to the manger and she took the balme which I give her a lot of props for that. Overall i would go back for the food, not the service and it did look nice inside with tvs. Overall, it was a bad night but i woudl go back jsut for the food and the prices.
Everytime i go i never know if it's going to be a good experience or not, mainly because there is no continuety in the quality of the food. Sometimes your wings will be extremely spicy, sometimes they'll be extremely dry. Sometimes you'll order nachoes and you'll recieve a mountain of them, and some times you recive a place with a couple nachoes on it.
I went for dinner on 25th May with my family around 7:30 pm, the Restaurant was fully packed and they have very good system of managing wait lists. We registered our name and went for a walk. After 15 minutes we got a call to inform us that our table is ready. As soon we we reached there, the Hostess recognized us and escorted to our seat. In few minutes time the Server came and took the order. She was very friendly and engaging. The Restaurant was still busy but our food came on time and tasted good. What else can I expect when the whole white rock strip is busy, we still enjoyed our dinner and the service. I will visit again and would recommend this location to others.
I went to Wings this Saturday for dinner with my friends. When we arrived the hostess seated us in a friendly manner. The server came shortly after and took our orders. I ordered a variety of wings and yam fries, along with a Cesar drink. The food didn't take long to come. It looked appealing and tasted great. The Cesar drink was the best I've ever tried. The cost was reasonable compared to the rest of the restaurants on the street. The staff were friendly and the interior looks great. I'm planning on heading back next weekend and taking my family with me.
I don't usual care for Lamb, but their burger was Great. Nice to see some variety added to the White Rock strip. Not spendy, and has a lot more to offer that all those Fish & Chip places. You can catch a game too!
All while looking at the magnificent sunset. Good Job! Good Luck.
