Uli's is a European bistro with a huge selection of craft beers and a great wine and cocktail list. We are proud to serve fresh local ingredients at all possibilities.
Three of us hit the door at about 5:00 P.M. so were able to get seated immediately.
We all decided we would go "Germanic" so all three ordered Shnitzels - of one variety or the other.
It was a unanimous vote that a Shnitze must be accompanied with beer to be true to origin so three large glasses were also ordered.
All went well for the next hour !

Uli's back and the miracle happens again. We love eating at Uli and have always had a terrific meal and outstanding service. The food is great, from steaks to yummi seafood, excellent chef. One of the best views of the ocean including the sunset we saw on January 2nd. Uli always makes us feel like we are on a holiday even though we are only a half an hour away from home.

The service and ambience was pretty decent, nothing terribly exciting or horribly terrible. I guess it will be nicer in the summer with the patio.
Anyways, we ordered mussels, cesear salad, stuffed yorkies and a bison burger. Our favourite was hands down the bison burger! It was the best burger I've had. It wasn't some huge sloppy burger, so that's what you like go elsewhere. The cesear salad was delicious... The stuffed yorkies needed a bit of salt... and the mussels were just average. I heard the lamb was also very delicious.
It isn't some pretentious place for those trying to play the role (majority of white rock's wannabe's). So, check it out!
Dinner here with the family early Saturday evening. I'd been wanting to try this place for some time, having a life-long appreciations for German food. First point: the "German" portion of the menu is a couple of schnitzels. Everything else is the same sort of thing you could find at 10 other restaurants along this strip. That's not such a bad thing, but if you're hoping to hear polkas and drink litres of Hacker-Pschorr, you'll be disappointed.
We had 1Arctic Char, 1 Forester Schnitzel (with mushrooms), 1 special beef tenderloin, and 1 halibut & chips. All of the first three of these came with a standard medley of asparagus and a tasty carrot, and a bit of really nice red pickled cabbage. The two who ordered the char and the tenderloin were extremely happy with their meals (4-5 food rating). Unfortunately, my schnitzel was bordering on black (tapping it with a fork made an audible clunking noise). I sent one of the two pieces back, and they re-made it for me to take home. There was no further compensation. Not only that, the sauce was sparsely offered, and there were maybe a half dozen little slivers of mushrooms for two pieces of schnitzel. Moving on, the fries on the fish-and-chips were quite tasty, but the fish itself was way fishier than halibut should be and called its freshness into question. Half of that was left behind.
I've downgraded service, because any server worth her spit should not have served blackened schnitzels to a customer. That's just Serving 101. Otherwise, she was just fine and would have rated a 4. The ambiance is the same as most other restaurants in the area, particularly on the patio. Finally, the cost for 4 meals, 1 appy, 2 beers, and 2 soft drinks was about $110, plus tip. Not horrible, but for that price we'd definitely expect better.
So I'm sad to say that I won't be back here. I wanted to love it...I really did. There are many other choices on this strip; Uli's has done absolutely nothing to distinguish itself.
Uli's has recently become my favourite restaurants in White Rock. For some time now I have missed having a local establishment where I would feel comfortable simply hanging out and having a beer or two, but now that I have rediscovered Uli's restaurant, I believe I have found that spot.
Speaking of beer, Uli's has a splendorous selection of delicious and hard to come by beers from around the world. I would highly suggest simply asking the staff to recommend a beer to go with whatever you order and you will be pleasantly surprised with the result.
The chef makes fantastic use of fresh ingrediants to create delicious specials, such as the halibut that I had today, which paired wonderfully with the Abbatiale Triple Bière Blonde that I had.
In any case, Uli's has become one of my gastro-squatting locations (a term a friend came up with that means to squat at delicious restaurants and simply be hedonistic). =D
I decided to write a review as this is the second time I have been to Ulis. They have acquired a new chef named Ryan, and I have to tell you the food is spectacular. We heard that the restaurant just one a review in the Now newspaper for their burger. This is not the usual ground beef. The meat is top quality sirloin, which is made to order. It blew me away! Sooooo tasty. They have an exceptional line of beers you never see in other restaurants, and their waiter Paul is quite the connoisseur. He can suggest the right beer for your taste, and we had fun trying the different flavours. Their main dishes are seafood, but they do have some beef dishes such as the bison. The prices are reasonable, and the view of the bay is awesome. I will not hesitate to go back again.
They got this new chef last year, and we wanted to try him out.
The service was quick, we ordered some wine and drinks.
We ordered the bison slow roast, fresh halibut, lamb and paella.
The restaurant was busy but the order come out within 15-20 minutes. That was quick. Presentation was TOP. The halibut was first class, great paella as usual
bison slow roast just melted on the plate and the smoked lamb with the ratatouille was perfect medium rare. Dining for over 15 years here in White Rock, that was one of the best dishes, I have seen so far! not mention the taste! Close to $ 200 for 4 people (incl. wine and drinks), not bad at all. The chef came out to see if we enjoyed the dinner, that was pretty cool.
The only one thing I have to mention is that the Ambiance has to improve a bit.
Overall: We will definitely be back.

We ordererd the Mussles and the Calamari, the Buffalo Steak and the Paellia...... incredible! Not just the taste, as well as the presentation of the food it self! The timing between the Appi's and the Entre was perfect.... we had a nice table on the window... romantic evening!
We will definately come back soon, and will refer you any time to family and friends!
We had a surprise birthday lunch for twelve. Tyson put together a perfect menu, made a wonderful cake and everyone raved at the food, really. Seafood linguini was the favorite, as was the chowder. Even on a busy day, staff were more than helpful and accomodating. A great team! I really appreciated the cooperation in getting this all organized by email from three time zones away. Thanks Tyson - John, Montreal.
PS, on my next trip, without a crowd to organize, I'll come back and just ENJOY!

My personal favorite is the savory saffron-infused paella considered by many to be the best this side of Spain.
Recently, Uli's Restaurant made the transition of ownership from German-born Uli Blume to his dynamic young son, Tyson. With years of experience managing some of the best restaurants in downtown Vancouver, Tyson has brought his own energy and unique vision while maintaining the charm and traditional dishes of his father.
Though Uli's is very good value for money and some of the main courses could easily serve two people, Tyson offers weekly specials that make this extraordinary restaurant an even better value. Wednesday is "Schnitzel Night" with three different mouth-watering versions of the German specialty offered at half price. Thursday is "Paella Night" when a couple can dine on a monster-sized platter for two, full of steaming hot pieces of chorizo, shrimp, mussels and clams at just $20 ($13 for a single).
In addition, Tyson brings along his considerable experience in wine tasting and continues to expand the restaurant's impressive wine list that includes the best from British Columbia, California, Australia, and Old World Europe.
With indoor and outdoor dining poised over Semiahmoo Bay (even in winter under huge heaters), Uli's Restaurant is always a memorable experience, and the warm engaging smiles of Tyson and the exceptional wait staff will leave you smiling too.

Coming from New West, I rarely go in to White Rock (or write reviews). But my wife and I had such a good time and everything was so amazing I just have to let more people know about this. It was a chilly December evening and I wanted to try some place I'd never been, I decided on Uli's because it had a lovely mural on the side of the restaurant.
As soon as we came in I loved how old fashioned everything seemed, very nice old school decor. My wife has an allergy to gluten and it was nice to see 'GF' next to items that can be made gluten free! I've never seen that before and it was nice to hear that all their product is local, organic and home-made. My wife ordered the burger (on a gluten-free bun), which I didn't know was voted the best in town! The chef even cooked it to medium rare, a first for us. I had a lamb shank which was so nice and tender I didn't even touch my knife.
I'm a beer drinker, and there must have been 100 beers I've never heard of on the list, I didn't know what to have so I just went with the server's recommendation, good call buddy ;) A huge bourbon selection also (30+), I would have gotten one if I didn't have to drive back to NW.
I can't believe none of my friends have ever heard of this place! I'm definitely going back, as soon as possible - A+ in my books.
title says it all...went in for lunch...everything was average at best...except the view, which was exceptional.
with all the good restaurants on this street, try somewhere else.
service and attitude of staff is main reason i wont go back, like i said with so many good choices around you, unless you got a coupon or something like that......just go somewhere else
Last weekend my parents came out to White Rock to visit, my wife and I. They live in the San Fransico area so I knew they would want somewhere that would match their regular dining experiences. We knew that Uli's had their burger mentioned in the White Rock newspaper a little while ago so my wife and I figured we would check it out (seeing as we live five minutes from the strip) It ended up being a really nice evening, thanks to the fabulous server (can't remember her name) and the delicious food. I had the Oysters Rockafeller with Paella and my wife had the Duck Confit,(all very flavourful! dishes). My parents ended up falling in love with the place, especially when the charismatic owner came over with a complimentary desert because our server told him it was my parents 50th wedding anniversary.
Thanks to all the staff that made the evening unforgettable for my family and I!

Continuing our quest for the best burger in the lower mainland my better half and I went down to Uli’s to sample their offerings. Our expectations were high as we had read an excellent review and always drive past their full restaurant. We decided to sit inside as it was a little brisk and the first thing I noticed when we sat down was that my arm stuck to the table. Our waitress was friendly and quickly supplied us with a smile, menus and a glass of water. After peeling my arm off the table we both looked around and noticed the general lack of cleaning FOH. A bit concerned we took a peek in the kitchen and were pleasantly surprised that the kitchen was very well maintained. Food: We both ordered the burger (that’s what we came for), we were not offered an option for fries or salad. I decided to pay the extra 3 dollars for the home cure bacon. The food was delivered in a timely manner and looked good. Upon inspection I realized that my burger was sans bacon. I nibbled on the frites while waiting for the bacon to arrive. I looked up and my bh face was not looking impressed, her first bite of the burger was unimpressive. When I had my first bite I had to agree. The much hyped air dried sirloin was flavorless with a fat content that was too low. The bacon was under cooked and flavorless. The Chala bun was over sweet and the smoked cheddar was the same you can buy at any grocery store. The only saving grace was the onions, mayo, and frites. Before leaving my better half went to the washroom and was not impressed, it was unisex and unclean. Working in high end restaurants for 20 years we are very forgiving with small problems with food and service. This was the poorest dining experience we have had in White Rock and we will not be returning.
My partner and I didn't have a good experience at Uli's. I think they were having a bad night as they had had a call from the City telling them not to use the water. We don't drink wine and are big water drinkers, and the only water they could offer was San Pellegrino which we didn't really want, and which they charged us for, despite there being no tap water available. The service was incredibly slow, (and that's coming from a Brit who usually has no problem with slow service), the house salad arrived brown and limp with sloppy green bits on the leaves, and some anaemic looking tomatoes that looked like they were days old so we sent it back. The server returned with apologies from the chef but no attempt was made to redeem the poor start. About 30 mins after ordering our main dishes arrived, barely warm. We were so hungry by this point that we didn't even think about returning them. I had ordered the halibut, which was cooked very nicely, but due to food allergies I had asked for the sauce on the side, so I was disappointed to find that the basmati rice which came with it was also coated in some sort of sauce that the server hadn't mentioned. My partner had the bison which he said was good. The mash that came with it was very tasty. We had only 2 mains and a small bottle of water and the bill was over $60. For that price I expect a lot more. I think the food here is probably usually pretty good, and the ambiance is nice, especially out on the patio with the water view, but the poor service and overall lack of efficiency really let them down.
The whole substandard experience took so long that the sun had set while we sat on the patio and so the server offered me a blanket. It also took quite some time to arrive but I have to say while I was disappointed with all other aspects of the meal, I'd give that blanket a five out of five!
