Shinjuki is a no frills Japanese restaurant in White Rock.
Went here for lunch and had the all-u-can-eat for $11.75/person. The selection was modest. We ordered from gomae, terayaki chicken, beef terayaki, miso soup, california rolls, dynamite rolls, crunch rolls, salmon sushi, chop scallops rolls, prawn tempura and yam tempura, etc. The food itself was prompt, fresh and tasty. I was overall impressed with the quality of the meals. The service on the other hand was not so good. They must have a language barrier as they forget some orders, do not understand and just nods and walk away. At times I had to wait for them to pick up the order sheet. The dishes was piling up at times as we had a small table and it was crowded already. The location was right by the peer, so this place would be nice on a clear warm day. Another downfall would be the parking. You have to pay for parking and that is all year round. Overall I enjoyed the food aspect but the service could improve by having some staff speak English fluently. I would venture to this restaurant again if I was in the neighborhood and craved for some sushi fix.
I had a completely different experience than the last reviewer which is why I'm submitting this review. We went for the all-you-can eat for lunch and thought the food was very good. You can't beat the price and in addition, the service we received was incredible. Our server was very attentive and always checked in on us (we were in a private booth) to see how we were doing, if we wanted anything else and to clear the empty plates from our table. Our food came out quickly and we will definitely come again. There are some items that are more delicious than others (i.e. the chicken teriyaki was not my favorite), but there are so many tasty items that it doesn't factor into my overall impression.
I took my little sister in-law to this restaurant to try out for the first time and we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the dishes. We both ordered some rolls and the fish seemed fresh and the rice was a good consistency. The price is pretty average for what you are getting.
