Service = Disgraceful
Food = Comparable to the left over chunks you get in your kitchen sink
Management/Ownership = Incompetent and deplorable doesn't even begin to describe tweedle-dee and tweedle-dum.
Save your money and visit your local Subway if you want to get a sandwich that doesn't resemble jail food. Management is a joke. Two incompetent, money-hungry, non genuine individuals. Personalities that deserve to be prison guards .. which is relevant seeing how there food is worthy of being served only for those behind bars.
Experience: After receiving our drinks we waited a while for our server to return and take our order. Ordering yam fries and potato skins as an appetizer, and sandwiches as our main. After a long awaited 45 minutes we finally received our meals. Just to clarify, I work in a restaurant and personally can NOT stand when people say they wait 1 hour when it has really only been 10 minutes, so when I say 45 minutes, I'm not elaborating at all. The server dropped off our food and make a joke about how food was so late and then she left. Not once did the server or anyone else care to check back to make sure our food was alright. Eater beware: the BEEF DIP consists of a dried up bun filled with questionable meat paired with a lukewarm au jus which could be compared to dark coloured dish water. Our server came to us when we were done our meals when I then said that my boyfriend refused to eat the rest of his sandwich because it was genuinely that bad. To wait 45 minutes for food and then refuse to eat what you were given is solid proof that it was horrible. The server asked if I would like to speak to a manager and I figured with the horrible service and the horrible quality of food that I might as well take the time to inform the manager. 10 minutes later the server returned to tell me the manager did not have time to come over and speak with me. As I turned I saw the manager dancing behind the bar with other staff members. I then told the server that if the manager had time to dance on shift that she definitely had time to speak with me, and that I would wait as long as it took. Another ten minutes passed before the manager gathered the courage to deal with me and my friends. She came over, 70's hairdo and all, and said "whats the problem?" I gave her a detailed rundown of our experience and told her she could go to the kitchen and check the kitchen (chit) time to see how long the bill was to prove I wasn't over exaggerating. She said there was nothing she could do. Meanwhile there was a group of 4 who had walked out because they went 10 minutes without service, and another patron who had to walk up to the "dancing" staff and ask to be served because no one failed to help them. She said that they cant make everyone happy. I have never dealt with some incompetence in the industry and trust me I've had horrible service time and time again. But after by dead-end talk with incompetent owner number 1, I asked to speak with the kitchen manager because she blamed all the problems on them. It seemed as if they were both playing a game called "who is the bigger failure?" and the sad part was, they both won. The kitchen manager kept saying "well this is a 105 seat restaurant, and 40 minutes is standard for food coming out" .. I don't care if your restaurant capacity is 1000, if you only have 7 tables in the restaurant eating, capacity means nothing. But I guess this is expected from some rude, immature, middle-aged man, self-proclaimed Iron Chef. He then brought out the big guns to tell me he was the owner and he had 35 years of kitchen experience. I don't know if he thought he was doing himself a favour, but after that comment I thought even less of him. After he gave me all these ridiculous excuses he just stood there and said "well I don't know what you expect, we refuse to do anymore because we depend on all the revenue coming into our restaurant". I then replied "well the fact that both you and the co-owner have yet to give my friends and I an apology is absolutely disgraceful" We then had an awkward stare down. We ended up paying for the full bill, because I guess our money needed to go to the hairdressing of the female owner and the kitchen training for the wanna-be Chef Ramsay. HOW PEOPLE GET THE OPPORTUNITY TO RUN RESTAURANTS IS BEYOND ME! I sincerely wish this restaurant its continued failure, and look forward to the day I see a foreclosure sign on the door.
If you want an experience of a lifetime I highly recommend going to this excuse of a restaurant because I'm sure you will have a story to talk about for weeks.
Chef Ramsay would have thrown the food at their faces and closed the place down for business. If you hate pathetic service and overly priced poor quality food, please join me in not supporting this business. With dining out being so expensive nowadays, now more than ever incompetent owners need to get their priorities straight. If they fail to do this, they don't deserve even being considered as a dining option.
For those who read this rant, I'm greatly satisfied that you will be saved from a horrible experience. If you fail to take my advice, I look forward to hearing the details from your poor experience.
Came here when a hockey game was on so it was quite dead. We ordered a few appies (spicy chicken, cajun wings, shrimp) and they were not bad. Wings were bland but the rest were quite tasty. I wouldnt mind coming back and trying out some mains sometime.
Service started out great but once the kitchen closed and it basically turned into a club, the service ended. Oh well.
Pretty good clubbing joint but music at the start of the night was horrible. Not until 10:30 did the music finally get better so we could actually dance - note to DJ: most people refuse to dance to remixed oldies.
White Rock has always been a great place to go for a walk and a bite to eat. We decided to hit up The Ocean Beach Club and Grill, which was a very odd experience. Upon arrival we were seated outside on the patio and there were plenty of seats to chose from. The table we recieved had dirty dishes from the last patrons but was cleaned very promptly.
Service: Our server was Bailey, a very polite but perhaps new staff member to this establishment. There was some kind of party that was going on and it took 10 minutes for us to get our menus and another 10 minutes for us to take the drink order. The service was painfully slow as there seemed to be only two servers and ther party only had 8 people in it even though it sounded like the place was packed.
Food: I had the West Coast Chicken Club which was fantastic but my fiancee had a different experience as to what I had. She got the pulled pork sliders with fries. There should be a small flame logo on this menu item as it was very spicy and it was hard to eat because of how hot it was.She ate two of the burgers but after the second she had to call it quits.People who have a low tolerance to spicy food should not get this item as it does not say the spice level on the menu.
I would go back later on only if the service was a bit more prompt as we waited a long time. Bailey, however did a great job at waiting on our table as I can not blame the slow service on her
I enjoy the OB as an afternoon ocean view bar. The first three rows of tables provide great ocean views or sun, if that is your wish. Staff are pleasant, welcoming, but not greatly informative regarding the menu. The menu is small but with some interesting items - steak bits, burgers and soft tacos being favorites. The kitchen is well organized and items arrive on beach time with tastey in-house sauces, dependent upon the dish. The booze menu is standard so the overall effect is a picnic on a patio at the beach.
Good value, relaxed beach place.
At night the OB becomes a serious thumping nightclub complete with the party crowd.
I was at Ocean Beach last night and was ready to leave very soon after being there. We got there and found a table on the patio, sat down and had to wait quite a while to even get a menu. Got the menu and was disappointed with the limited choices. For a place so close to the beach, you would think that there would be quite a selection of sea food on the menu. WRONG! The waitress got our drinks quickly and then came back about a second later to ask if we were ready to order, when asked if we could have a few more minutes to decide, she returned about 20 minutes later. People were smoking on the patio, which I personally found disgusting!!! Made the atmosphere even more trashy than it already was. The food was ok, but could have been better. Very pub style. The atmosphere and the service is what completely turned me off of this place. The waitress was completely unprofessional, hugging people left and right and allowing many people to touch her. Basically she was gross! I cant even begin to describe how trashy this place is. If your planning a fun night in a place like White Rock this is not the place to go. Unless you want to smell like cigarettes and be surrounded by loud drunk old people, and want un-classy, unprofessional slow service.
im not sure what these ppl are takin about or went to the same place i did , but this was the happening spot on white rock beach, the food was good , good looking girls serving , the room is completely modern looking aswell!!!
we went for a birthday dinner, drinks and dancing they fully took care of us and bought a party of 20 a round of drinks. im not sure what u ppl are looking for considering its the busiest place in white rock and i live in white rock. longest standing place in town so they must be doing something rite... i suggest checkin this place out awesome view, good ppl, good time :)
I first tried the OB when I moved to White Rock about 2 years ago. I've tried it for lunch and dinner and boy the food is average. Sometimes below average. The service is also average but sometimes surprisingly good. Your best bet to get a feel for it is Thursday or Saturday from 6pm onwards when chicken wings are 20 for 1 dollar. Great value even though sometimes your wings will be dry, others they will be dripping in sauce. I guess it all depends who is in the kitchen. A few times they have been undercooked and the waitress kindly brought more. Wash them down with a 16$ pitcher of beer and it's a great value meal. The crowd ranges from the underage drinkers at the back to the local biker gang in their colours on the patio. Always something to look at in this place if you get tired of the great ocean view. Keep an eye out for the old lady with the walker making the rounds . Kind of creeped me out but is the owners mom and lives upstairs. The rest of the food with the exception of the nachos will make you wish you went to yhe Boathouse.
Went to the OB the other night for drinks and appies. Service was horrible, waitress was extremely rude and useless. It felt like we were a nuisance to her, instead of serving her tables she was chatting to her friends at another table. Martinis were expensive! Wasn't feeling the crowd either.. Won't be returning.
Went to the OB for a drink and to watch the basketball game last night.
The table was not cleaned , the waitress was rude and unfriendly. I asked to have the game put on the TV and I was told that she would do it later!! I asked if the taps were working again so I could get a pint and she snapped at me!! Then I had to ask to have the table cleaned. It was like I was messing up her day! This is one of the few times that I believe that this waitress needs to find a new profession...and soon! She is not doing any favours to the OB. I ordered wings for an appie and this same girl started to argue with me and my guest that they never had the flavour that we requested!!
I will not be going back. By the looks of the other reviews of this place...there are quite a few others.
what do you get when you try to mix a daytime restaurant, an evening pub and a nightclub? a trainwreck.
during the day you are seated in a dimly lit and awkwardly laid out restaurant where they serve pub food, at best. during the evening you have a fairly typical pub environment, except that the eager-beavers for a night of drinking and dancing start showing up early and try haplessly to get "hyped" with their "girlfriends" with flat response. during the night they try desperately to pass off the place off as a nightclub with a DJ, drinks and dancing.
but its more like they're taking a restaurant and once it gets dark, they play "pretend nightclub" with it. you couldn't get a decent scotch-and-coke if your life depended on it and the music they play sounds more like a junior-high dance than anything else.
if you want to go clubbing, go downtown. don't even waste your time with the O.B.
unless you live in white rock, then there is a stong chance that the concept of going to a real-live city is probably frightening to you and I suggest sticking with the Ocean Beach Club and Grill.
