Big Taste in Little India

After reading many positive reviews here we decided to try this restaurant tonight for take-out. Ordered the Chicken Saag, Tandoori Prawn salad & Garlic Naan. The Saag was wonderful, with a depth and complexity of taste. The Prawns on the salad were very tasty & succulent. The Garlic Naan was fresh and tasted totally homemade.
Peter, the owner, was so nice and greeted me by my name when I came in. The food was waiting fresh and piping hot.
The ambience of the restaurant was quite cozy when I came in to pick up the food. I can't wait to come back with my husband to eat at the restaurant since it has a nice feel to it and there is a very pleasant smell of fresh curry. There were quite a few people here on a dark Sunday night which is always a good sign.
Overall, it's nice to have a restaurant in White Rock/South Surrey that honestly cares about the quality of their food and service.
Thank you for a lovely dinner Little India.

At the top of the hill overlooking the pier in White Rock sits a small Indian restaurant that is run by a wonderful family. Dad runs the front - and never forgets a name, Mom runs the back - and never misses a day...even with a broken ankle. The difference here is that not every dish tastes the same. Each dish has a very distinct flavour, and what a flavour! Garlic Naan...the best. Choose it instead of rice. We have been going here for about 3 yrs and have had a consistantly superior experience every time...usually about twice a month. Two with food (4 dishes & 2 Naan) and wine, tax and tip in can run you about $70 - $80...don't let that scare you off, it is money well spent! You could, & we have, spend an additional $50 elsewhere and not come close to the quality here. The drive is worth it. Make a day at the beach and dinner at Peter's then down the hill to the gelato shop right opposite the pier. You can die happy after this experience. The only complaint: For you heat freaks...bring your own heat...we have trouble getting Peter & Vina to add the heat but this is just being too pikee.

Best Indian Food Ever

I went to Little India last night expecting some mediocre Indian food at an acceptable price. Upon arrival my expectations were blown away.

I was greeted immediately by the restaurants owner Peter. He gave me a great choice of seating in the restaurant: sitting outside or inside. When we were ready to order where were quickly greeted by another employee. He was a shorter fellow who was extremely relate-able and always cracked a joke or two upon speaking with me. We ordered Samosa, Butter Chicken, Prawn Masala, Pulao Rice and a couple of Naans. I expected the Samosa's to come out greasy but was quickly proven wrong when they came dry and grease free. Shortly after the rest of the food arrived. The prawns were flavorful and a delight containing vegetable and a curry sauce that made the dish great. The Butter Chicken was moist and utterly brilliant and the pulao rice was warm and beaming with taste. The Naan bread was the best part of the meal. They were tasty, fluffy and went perfectly with the rest of the meal.

The whole restaurant lived up to the name Little India. Peter has developed a collection of classic Indian art and music that adds to the Indian aura of the restaurant. For the caliber of food I received I got a fantastic deal paying around $40 for the whole meal. I will be coming back again and again and I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to taste some brilliant Indian cuisine.

Can't believe this place isn't more busy. Right on the beach avenue in White Rock. Deck overlooking the pier. Excellent Indian food in simple surroundings. Family run and very personable. Always seem to have leftovers to take home for next day. Definately one of our favourites in the area. Great for after a day at the beach. Very casual.

Great find in White Rock! Food is fresh, delicious and as spicy as you want. The prices are very reasonable too. Very clean, owners are personable and treat their customers very well.
We actually think this is one of the best restaurants in White Rock.
If you want a fabulous view you need to make a early reservation as the patio is tiny.
Very enjoyable!

Also known as lentils in gravy. I get it virtually every time I come to Little India. Little black nuggets of goodness. A naan is a must, cheese or garlic, and possibly the zaffrani (saffron) rice. Kingfisher beer goes well with the modest spicyness. I do not recommend the milk dumpling desserts -- they are really good, but there's only two of them, for $5 or $6. At that price I would like four. I really wish I could get four! They -are- scrumptious.

Peter the proprietor is a very decent fellow and always makes you feel at home. And the cook working in the back knows their craft very well. This is a favorite of my family's and a real asset to the community... or Metro Vancouver as a whole for that matter, judging by some of the other reviews. We go there about once a month or thereabouts and we always, always leave happy and satisfied. Unequivocal recommendation.

This place is fantastic.. I take everyone here for their introduction to East Indian cuisine. The service is absolutely fantastic.. they treat you like you're the only customer. The food is divine, truly delicious.

I don't really know what I could say that is negative about this place.. ummm.. yeah beats me. It's just a really good place, good food, extremely friendly.

Give them a shot.

Oh I know something I could say.. their hot isn't very hot. I mean, it's maybe hot for old white people. But if you REALLY love spicy food, make sure you ask for "Indian Hot." Mmmmmmm Mmmmmm.

This is one of my favourite places, I regularly get take out as the dining room is usually full. The food is fantastic and the quality is excellent. The people there are also very friendly and its nice to be greated warmly even when you are picking up take out. In the summer parking is a bit difficult which is also why I usually do take out but its definitely worth sitting down and having dinner there. They also have a very nice ocean view.

I come here quite often with my friends and family.

The food is always excellent- I would highly recommend having the Butter Chicken and the Curried Prawns with some Garlic Naan; the Lamb Curry is also very very good.

The service here is exceptional, and the ocean-view is a great feature ! This is definitely one of my favorite restaurants in White Rock.

My sister and I were caught in a huge wind and rain storm while spending the day in Vancouver. Upon leaving for the U.S. we decided to pull into the quaint ocean side town for food, which we expected to be pricey, due to the location.
We picked the small Indian restaurant amongst the others -- we wanted a change from the usual Italian or any title with the term "grill". We were soaking wet from the rain and walked in to a dimly lit, calm environment.
The restaurant is decorated in traditional Hindu art, with rustic orange walls, Statues, and wall decor of Shiva, Krishna, sacred elephants, and family owned tapestries.
Chicken Curry, Chicken Tikka, Saffron rice, Naan, and Chai tea was ordered. Every dish was prepared to absolute perfection: The Chicken Curry was not overly strong -- it held the right amount of spice; The Chicken Tikka was well marinated, buttery with a hint of sweetness; The Saffron rice needed no other additional ingredients; The Naan was soft, and very flavorful; and finally, the Chai tea was made with just the right amount of milk/cream. No additional sweetness needed and went perfectly well with the savoriness of the meal. It didn't look like a lot of food at first, but it was definitely enough and nothing was greasy or dry, as some other reviewers have said.
We were left feeling full, not stuffed, relaxed and extremely comforted. It was definitely the "warm hug" (as I referred to it) and the "warm blanket" (as my sister put it). The prices were reasonable considering the location and how incredible the cuisine is -- we paid about $30 (CAD).
The night, the trip, was ended on a brilliant note. I couldn't help thanking the waiter and he thanking us millions of times over. My sister and I plan on returning to Canada just for this restaurant, and we will be back in greater numbers.
In my eyes, this is the best restaurant and my absolute favorite.

This is my favorite take out place. The food is amazing and everything is cooked on site. No prepackaged meals here. I often order take out and even supplement my meals when entertaining friends with yummy dishes from this place. I guess the thing that impresses me most is that everything is made from scratch and as a Celiac this is so important. The kitchen knows every ingredient that goes into their meals and believe me I know this is not common! Great place I cant say enough good things about it and I have eaten there or ordered out at least 20 times.

I went to Little India last week with 2 of my friends and we ordered the lamb curry, butter chicken, mixed vegetables, naan and rice. Everything was terrific- especially the butter chicken- it was the best butter chicken I've ever had !! The naan, rice, and the other dishes were also very good. Service was attentive, and like someone else mentioned, they treat you like your the only customer there- the ambience was cozy and the ocean view was defiantely a bonus. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys indian food. I will definately be back.

We visited this restaurant in the evening after the Spirit of the Sea Festival. The food was delicious. We ordered Butter Chicken, Chicken Curry, Naan bread & rice. I wasn't a huge fan of the rice but everything else was amazing especially the Naan bread. I have never tasted Naan bread like this ! It was unreal. The prices were very good. The service was just ok. We had to ask for water and weren't approached to see how our meal was untill we were pretty much done. Even though the service wasn't outstanding we will definetely be back.

Little India restaurant is amazing, right from the second you walk in the front door. The owner has personality. The hostesses are great. The atmosphere is simple and has great character instead of these new restaurants with their chain-style neon lit atmospheres. The music in the background is comforting and makes you enjoy your meal more. Last but not least, the food.....it is amazing beyond words. Every time I want great food I go there, period!!!! Go there and enjoy because you will be wasting your money elsewhere!!!!

Best Indian Ever

I have had the opportunity to try many Indian restaurants in the lower mainland and without a doubt Little India has the best tasting Indian food I have ever had. I have been to all the famous Indian buffets and the most upscale restaurants in the city and this is by far the best in food quality, taste, and selection. I can personally recommend the samosa's, the most unique butter chicken I have ever tasted, chicken shashlik (skewers of chicken, red peppers, and onions, in an amazing red curry sauce. I met Peter the owner. He really takes care of the customer and it's apparent that he really loves his repeat customers as he spoke to so many people by name. He even would say hi as people walked past the restaurant, lol. :) It's definitely worth the drive to White Rock to check this place out.

Went here with high expectations... a family run joint with great reviews and was left with little to boast about. The butter chicken although great flavour, lacked good chicken - it was dry and only about 4 pieces of chicken as well as a bit on the greasy side. The naan was greasy and just overall not very tasty - I didn't think that greasy naan was something you could get. The rice and wine however, were great!

Unfortunately, the $40 I spent on one dish with rice and naan and a glass of wine was just not worth it... not someplace that I will be dying to go or recommend to others as there are so many other fantastic places around.

Hey guys, here is another one of my reviews. This one is for the White Rock restaurant "Little India"

I came to Little India hoping for some good Indian food and for the most part got what I came for. The food was fine, but a little greasy. The service was what really turned me away though. I came once and was served by a smaller guy who seemed grouchy and in a rush. This guy could not keep it together and seemed very intense when serving, which isn't my preference. However, on another night, there was this guy on who seemed very laid back and cool, who made jokes and really made my night. He was a taller guy with black hair who really delivered good service. Overall, this is a fairly average restaurant, that really has ups and downs with the service.

Submitted Sunday, August 16, 2009 - 9:21pm [Dine in]

I read the reviews on here so decided to give this place a try. Mistake.

We ordered samosas to start. They were obviously previously frozen and extremely greasy. We then ordered Butter Chicken, Chili Chicken, Rice and Nann for dinner. The pre-made and awful curries arrived too quickly for comfort. The Butter Chicken tasted nothing like traditional butter chicken. It was a greasy disaster. The chicken was dry and tasted like it was cooked days ago and just now re-heated. The Chili Chicken was slightly better but again very greasy and full of dry chicken. The rice was not like Indian rice at all, it tasted like Japanese rice. The Nann was also greasy and tasted like plain white bread.

The service was mediocre but the poor quality of the food makes this restaurant stand out as one of the worst I have tried. The one thing enjoyable about this dinner was the patio right on the beach.

All and all good location, extremely bad food!
