Leela Thai serves authentic, traditional Thai cuisine prepared by Thai chefs using traditional techniques.
Leela has slowed a bit likely due to the influx of Thai eateries in South Surrey, which is too bad because Leela should be the busiest. I will say that this is the BEST Thai restaurant in South Surrey and I have eaten at them all. Service is great, food is great, if you are craving Thai this is the place to go.
I've been to Leela Thai about 30 times over the past decade. If you're in the mood for Thai, it's amazing, it's perfect. Funnily enough, I don't find myself in that condition very often, so I can't be utterly ecstatic about their offerings. I will say that their desserts are sublime. Deep fried banana with homemade coconut ice cream, or fresh mango with sticky rice. Just be sure not to get either when banana or mango is out of season though. Lunch specials are good and cheap, but I always find myself getting Pad Thai for $8. It's a good deal but more often than not, sushi is more delicious.
I agree with the previous reviewer....as this is the only Thai place close by to South Surrey/White Rock residents, it saddens me to see the quality and value of this restaurant decline so much. I ate here the other night and also saw the signs about the price increase...to be quite honest their prices are already overinflated for the quality and quantity received. I love Thai food but I dread coming here since they are never overly friendly and the food quality can sometimes be embarrassing since it rarely ever seems authentic (for that, go to Best Thai food in Langley).
I doubt I'll patronage this restaurant anymore once their price increases in the New Year....actually now that I think about it, I'll probably just not go back again at all since I would rather drive to Langley and support a restaurant that actually gives authenticity, value and service to their patrons.
I really hope that the owners read these reviews and put a little more effort in .....
Just had a fabulous dinner at Leela Thai, our first time there. Started with the Tom Ka Gai soup- #11 - (chicken, mushrooms, cilantro, coconut milk, lemongrass, among other spices). It was the best Thai soup I have ever had, without a doubt. The chicken satay was wonderful too; really liked the flavour and texture of the sauce. We had a couple of different curries, both good, but the beef, eggplant green curry (#61) was a standout dish, with incredibly layered flavours. Thai cuisine is already one of the most complex in terms of flavours and this dish did not disappoint. Only the Pad Thai didn't rise above the ordinary but this was easily forgiven, as all the other dishes and the service were excellent. We ate more than we thought we would and even managed to leave with a doggy-bag. Portions are generous and prices are reasonable. We left extremely satisfied and thrilled with having discovered a wonderful alternative to having to drive to Vancouver to get really good Thai food! We will definitely be dining here regularly! Well done, Leela Thai!
Had all the Thai food this side of the Fraser (and most on the other side!) and must say that Leela Thai takes the cake when it comes to consistently tasty food. The only recommendation for them is to ask how spicy, because there have been times when we have wanted it spicier. Never cheap on the chicken breast, their Pad Gra Pow is to die for, and try any of their red curries too, as they are excellent.
Ambience gets a decent rating simply because it could be nicer in there, but really you are going there to eat, not admire the scenery, and they deliver on their core business.
The food is excellent here. Our server was very nice. Too bad it's all the way in white rock or i'd be there more often. We ordred the Panag curry, pad thai and a tom yum soup which was excellent. I would recommend this place to anyone who loves Thai food!
Ive been told about this restaurant but we are in langley its a bit to far for us usually ,well we happened to be in whiterock as we were sight seeing with some friends out for christmas who love thai food.As we entered the restaurant we were greeted with a warm smile and a comfortable thai setting with thai music playing softly in the background it really gave it a authentic feel.We did have a little wait but the place was full, a good sign.It was well worth it the food,Wow ,the currys were out of this world, the red, green curry with eggplant, chilli beef ,gang musman and i wont forget the deep fryed bannana with ice cream. We found the Leela Thai Restaurant to be a wonderful thai dining experience ,fair prices as you do get a lot of food....We will be back.
We went to Leela Thai last night for the first time in years what happened? We had the Tom Yum Gai and Me-ung Sod to start the soup was still good the the Me-ung Sod was horrible the portion was cut in half and extremely greasy, we then had the Chili Beef which was suppose to be spicy but ended up being very bland and flavorless followed by the Pad Thai which tasted like something pre-made to top it all off there are notices in the menus and under the glass on all tables about price increases starting in the new year. I used to eat here all the time when the previous owners were there and it was amazing and always packed sorry to see this happen to such a great restaurant!
We love to visit a couple of times a year to enjoy the awesome Thai food. Always a tasty treat, always good service, and always a place to park and enjoy a quiet meal with friends and family. Visit it yourself and take the taste test, the price is right.
