Five Doors Down is a new steak and seafood restaurant in White Rock that soft launched on June 1, 2010.
My husband and I go out for dinners every weekend and have found our perfect dinning experience at Five Doors Down. It's located right infront of the pier on Marine Drive in White Rock. It's the same owners as Cielo's, five doors up, which we've loved for years. We got there early and had a beautiful table looking out at the water. Also caught the sunsetting while sipping on wine and enjoying kushi oysters on the half shell. We invited another couple with us who ended up joining us after our oysters and we all were more than impressed.
We all shared some pan fried oysters, bruschetta (like cielos), digby scallops, salt spring island mussel (beautiful), and calamari that was pan fried not deep fried. All the appies were fabulous!!!
Our server was on top of everything and very helpful with our ordering decisions as the menu items all looked great. We actually had 4 courses and spent the whole night there eating, drinking and laughing...
I had the lamb that was tender and cooked perfect with scallop potato, which i want the recipe for.
My husband had the new york steak and added a whole lobster on, wow, it was amazing.
Our friends did the creole chicken and crab dinner.
There's this peanut butter /chocolate dessert you must go have, to die for.
If you need a place to go out for the night this is it!!!!
I've never been happier with a restaurant, we couldn't have asked for anything better.
Thanks Five Doors Down, we'll be back and let everyone know what a great place this is.
Heard about this new restaurant and read some good reviews, so thought we would try it out. Heard service might be slow, but we received good service. The food was tasty and fresh, but the portion servings for the chowder was pretty meagre. They had these small shallow bowls they put the chowder in, and there was maybe a half a cup of chowder. For $12 that's pretty skimpy. And the $40 crab was awfully close to being just undersized, although it was rated good by my husband. The rack of lamb was delicious, the fish and chips was rated just so so, and the house salad was good. Overall a fare evening was had by the majority of our group.
5 Doors Down, sister restaurant to Cielo's on Marine Drive in White Rock, was recommended to me by a friend for a business dinner I was hosting. Upon reading reviews I was a little apprehensive as to what I had read about poor service in a couple of reviews. The restaurant just opened in June of 2010 and so I was hoping that it was just a matter if ironing out the kinks. As I was entertaining 10 people along with myself, I called ahead and spoke to the Manager in the afternoon. He assured me that we would be well looked after. He was right on to his word. Our server, Jenanne, was super, there was not a moment where we lacked for anyone to cater to our every need. The wine list was not super huge but contained a nice selection, including several wines which were unfamiliar to me. I chose two BC wines unknown to me, a Thornhaven Pinot Gris and a Bonitas Pinot Noir and was not disappointed with either. I found the pricing for the wines to be reasonable. Due to being such a large group we sampled most items on the menu. Items ordered included the much recommended Creole Chicken (which includes loads of seafood with it), the fish & chips, Ahi Tuna, steaks, the calamari & prawn & deep fried oysters appitizers. One couple took advantage of the special dinner for 2, which included 2 - 5 oz. steaks, which came with their own baked potatoes/seasonal veges and a 2.5 lb lobster. Deserts sampled included the Vanilla Bean Creme Brule and the peanut butter chocolate torte. Everything we tried was not the least bit disappointing whatsoever. Even the unique flax seed bread before dinner was delight. Overall, the great service, incredible food and wonder ambiance and decor made for the perfect evening. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys good food and a nice setting. Living in Burnaby, which is a commute to get to this restaurant, I can't wait to make the drive there again. In fact, I have already set a date with other friends to go again this summer.
Food is amazing. Have had 4 great meals there. Have heard about a few service challenges, but I am sure they are primarily from being new and experiencing growing pains.
I would recommend this place to anyone. It is the best spot on Marine Drive in White Rock!!
Decor, location and the lounge makes it a great room. Same owners as Cielo's, but a much different atmosphere - both have their strengths - 5DD is much brighter and spacious.
The Creole Chicken with Scallops and Prawns are amazing, and the presentation for the raw oysters along with the sauces is outstanding. Chef Steve has outdone himself.
Beautiful place with a great view of the water and the pier! Food was good!. But TERRIBLE SERVICE! I will not go back... visited the place on a Saturday night with a friend since it was so busy the owner of the restaurant sat us at the bar and told us that as soon as a table was free we will be moved. That never happen! She did not come back to check on us or move us a table! Not good wines at the wine list.
"Five doors down" is actually five doors down his little brother, Celios...
On a nice Sunday night, the three of us headed to Five Door Down for dinner.
As soon as we were sited, our waiter gave us menu and ordered our drink. My host recommended the Frites Oorlog with the sauces as an appetizer and believe me, I'm not a fan of fries usually, but those were delectable!
The men opted for the Tenderloin and I succumbed for the Sesame crusted Ahi Tuna served on a fresh green salad, beets and grilled pistachios. I had to contain myself not to lick the plate! It was so delicious! I had the opportunity to taste the Tenderloin. It was tender and perfectly cooked.
Our waiter came back to top our glasses of wine, so we never needed to do it ourselves.
There was pleasant Christmas music playing that was not too loud.
The restaurant was half full and not too noisy. I heard that it can get busy on Friday-Saturday night, so having a reservation is not a bad idea.
In brief, my experience at Five Doors Down tell me that I'll be back...
