Black Tuna is a Japanese bistro in White Rock serving a menu of tapas and small plates for sharing.
I ordered take-out from Black Tuna today and waited about 10 mins. while my order was being prepared. They brought out this large plastic bag and I thanked them and went home. When I opened the bag, part of my order was missing. I phoned the restaurant and the man who answered (the owner I believe) knew right away what I was calling about. He apologized for the mistake and told me that he'd give me a complimentary order of tempura when I came to pick up the missing part of my order. I told him that wasn't necessary since it was a mistake and it wasn't a big deal. When I went back to the restaurant 3 of the employees came out to apologize for the mistake. My order was waiting for me to pick up, as well as a large order of tempura. The owner also insisted on giving me $5 (25% of the cost of my order), which I didn't want to take. He was very insistent (but pleasantly so).... I was just blown away by this level of service. Mistakes happen in business everyday.... this was not a big deal, but they remedied the problem with great tact. As you can tell from my previous review, I really like the food at Black Tuna, but their service has clinched it for me. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how it's supposed to be done!
I reviewed Black Tuna's website menus before placing my take out order and was pleasantly surprised with the prices. I neglected to notice that the website's copyright date at the bottom of the window was 2005. I guess the online menus have 2005 prices. The difference was only about $3.00 total but I think it's poor business practice to advertise one price and then charge another. Otherwise, the service was friendly and efficient and the restaurant is conveniently located. Unfortunately, the food was just okay. My rolls came with pretty carrot blossoms and the rolls were generously sized. It just wasn't very flavourful.
This is one of my favourite sushi places to go in White Rock. The food is very fairly priced, and they have the best dynamite rolls! Not to mention the free yam fries they give to every customer and frozen grapes! I've eaten at a lot of sushi places in White Rock and this is for sure the cheapest for the quality of food served. The service is always great and I've never had a complaint. Very nice decor inside as well.
