Mojo Vino offers a menu of eclectic Mediterranean tapas, small plates and mains along with an extensive wine and cocktail list.
I have been there twice since the chef change. I was apprehensive since I am a top chef Canada fan but I follow their tweets and decided to experience the change. The description of gourmet comfort food is spot on. It is eclectic, sophisticated, but easy dining. This place is upscale but not stuffy while also being quaint. The servers are warm and attentive. It was never an issue for me before but the tapas are now bigger and I think the prices are a little lower. This is my favourite restaurant now. You can see that they really want to please the customer. To the new chef - The food is WONDERFUL! I highly recommend Mojo.
The mixed reviews on this place made it really hard for my wife and I to commit to dining here. We are amateur critics in the Durham Region, and in spite of all the recommendations from our friends, I was honestly confused by what was written online. Let my review be a message and lesson to anyone who is keeping up on all of the restaurant websites, the bad reviews written about this place is just crap from the arses. Surfing the internet rather than experiencing Mojo Vino could have been a huge mistake. It is a hidden gem in Whitby that mimics some of the best romantic little places in T.O. or even Europe. The owner explained how this is the brainchild of three people who have traveled the world and I can see that this is the best of all of their memories. Warm colours and a bohemian ambiance greet you at the door but if that isn't enough you are pulled in by the live music playing in front of a torch fireplace. The place looks smaller then it is. Do not be fooled! there is a second room with another fireplace surrounded by beautiful stonework. Did I mention the artwork? Just ask the owner, she is definitely a proud Canadian who talks about finding this B.C. artist and the decision behind each hung art piece in the restaurant. She was kind enough to give us the website too. In spite of this all no one goes out to eat because of the ambiance, that is what makes you comfortable while you're there. The truth behind any dining experience is the food and the service. Ladies and gentlemen, this place delivers like no other in Durham, and I have written about them all including the previous establishment in this location. I was so impressed by the many flavours and diversity of the menu that I started ordering leaving my wife behind with her first tapas. Each dish was better then the one previously ordered and our server knew the exact pace at which to bring them to our table. The wine pairing was perfect, again more help from the owner, who suggested the Kingston Merlot. Somehow we made room a main dish-what they call Racione on the menu, as well as an amazing sorbet dessert and truffles made in house. It was a perfect night from beginning to end. One that I think my good friend Jamie Kennedy should and will experience with me. We will be back to this wonderful and quaint restaurant in Whitby. To the owners - ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT! Cheers.
This is the best place in Durham for dating. The live music was a plus. The food was amazing and the wine even better. The waiter was knowledgeable and recommended the Valpolicello which is now my favourite wine. Started the night with tapas tasting and it was all good. My date had the red thai curry and raved about it. I had a seafood special that was just delicious. Thank you Mojo Vino.
