The Tandoori Grill, one of Whistler's premier restaurants, has selected dishes that are most sumptuous as they were inspired by Great Indian Emperors and prepared to perfection by Chefs of by-gone eras. The Moghal Kings who brought renaissance and enrichment to the Indian culture, favoured the technique of cooking in a Tandoor clay oven. We adopted this mode of cooking at all our Tandoori locations. In Whistler, you can observe the process of tandoori cooking behind glass.
There aren't too many ethnic dining options up on Whistler so when we knew there was Indian food nearby, off we went.
The decor is a little toned down but you wouldn't mistake it for something else. We arrived towards closing so things were mulled down some.
Menu choices are varied and all are tempting, but we opted for the butter chicken, lamb masala, palak paneer, pulao rice, raita and the always ubiquitous naan bread. Portion size always look small with Indian food but they always fill you up. Flavours are fantastic with special note to the masala and paneer, with a mild heat that accents rather than dominates leaving you with an assault of rich flavours instead.
Service was all business and lacks the easy-going pace of many Whistler dining retreats but you'd be hardpressed to find something to complain about.
With all the pubs and regular-fare options out there, give this spot a whirl.
Went here last summer on a date. God, my mouth starts watering just thinking about the food. It was absolutely to die for. The best Indian food I have ever had. The naan, the butter chicken the best ever (and I've had my fair share of both). We kept eating and eating until we were stuffed. Absolutely delicious food, good service, nice place. Highly recommended!
My husband and I dined here last week for the second time. We were so impressed the first time, and I recommend it to my friends who are visiting Whistler. The food is spectacular - the fusion of various spices making a mouth watering culinary event. This time (and last) I had the Chicken Vindaloo - this time I really noticed the "home made" quality of it - nice chunks of potatoes, instead of the normally diced up ones at other places. My husband had the Curried Chicken. The only problem was that his was too hot and spicy for his liking, and mine wasn't enough - I prefer hot and spicy. So next time we'll ask if there is a way we can adjust the amount of spice/heat to suit our individual preferences. We shared an order of basmati rice, and the naan bread was the best I've ever had (most places don't serve the "authentic" naan, so this was a treat). The decor was inviting - not anything too over-the-top, just a nice, clean, atmosphere with inviting decor - quite casual, and we liked this. The dining room itself was quite large, and had a patio outside for those who wanted to venture outdoors and experience their wonderful meal in fresh, mountain Whistler air. Our first visit (last summer) the server was so outgoing - personable, fun, recommended a dish or two to try out, took a photo of my husband and I with my camera. The staff this time was pleasant enough, but not terribly outgoing or wanting to go that extra mile, but I do have to say that both the gentleman who took our order, and the lady who was our server were very polite - just a little quiet. Maybe we were expecting something more from the last time we were there. The washroom facility was incredibly clean, as was the entire restaurant, from what we could see. And the price was very reasonable - good, quality, home cooked style food, an opportunity to experience something unique, and great value for such a satisfying meal. We'll be back most definitely, and I'll continue recommending it to my friends when they visit Whistler. To my husband and I, a trip to Whistler now cannot be complete without a trip to the Tandoori Grill. It quickly became part of our Whistler get-away experience!
We got take-out for 4, 4 entrees, 2 rice and 2 garlic nan and it was over 75 bucks but well worth it. The curries were so good i licked the sauce with my finger to make sure there was non left. The tandoori lanb was juicy and full of flavour, everything was excellent for take-out Indian food, again while we waited for our food there were delivery drivers in and out and one i reconized one driver from the pizza shop accross the street from the other day. Delivery must be popular in Whistler as our group only does takeout from restaurants and we have been to 6 different restaurants in 3 days for take-out and we saw delivery drivers at 5 of them, I love Whistler and more reviews to come.
Delicious, flavourful food and good portions at a surprisingly good price (relative to other Whistler restaurants). 4 entrees b/w 4 ppl was more than enough. We had butter chicken, rogan josh, chana masala, palak paneer. Garlic naan was homemade and really good (not the "fake" puffy bread sometimes served at some restaurants).
