The Mix by Ric's is a funky bistro style steakhouse on the Village Stroll.
Went for lunch because the lineup at Spaghetti Factory was too long. We were a party of 10, and it took a while to get seated, despite there being enough empty tables. We had 3 kids in our party, and the waitress did her best to accommodate their tastes. Food was pricey for what it was, but that's the norm in Whistler. I ordered the last beef dip (how could they run out by lunch time?). It was a large portion, and tasty. All the other food looked ok, nothing special. There were 2 servers for this place which is not large, yet the service was slow. The server didn't seem to clue in that when one person asked for the bill, she should bring the bills for the rest of the table. So everyone had to ask for their bills separately. Probably won't return.
"A little kitchen, so everything is fresh" - this is what our waitress told us. Ya, right. Do canned olives count as fresh?
The food was very disappointing - we had the prawns gratinee which were baked in artichokes, cheese and a bruschetta mix, including those canned olives. And this brushetta mix must be their specialty because it was topping the scallop risotto as well. Imagine ristto with leftover mushrooms and woody asparagus bottoms topped with raw onions and canned olives. Fresh...hardly.
This was terrifyingly expensive for nothing, except for the wine, but I chose that!
I was able to enjoy the 'low season' $25 three course special this spring. The service was very good and not at all slow as others have reported. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. I haven't had food that good for that price in Whistler in many years. I would definitely go back for the spring specials or the next time it is offered.
We sat on the patio of the Mix. There were pillows and blankets provided on the chairs! I loved that. Made for a cozy evening of drinks and food. Our service was okay; she wasn't very helpful when we were deciding on our food but she always made sure we had enough drinks. The food was great! I loved my goat cheese and chicken burger.
We visited this restaurant for breakfast this morning and ordered the eggs benny with crab and the breakfast mix - standard breakfast fare. We had to wait almost an hour for our food to arrive but the presentation was pretty good. My husband was pleased with his eggs benny but my breakfast was just okay. The poached eggs were sitting in a pool of water and were over cooked, the sausages were of poor quality and I swapped the hash browns for fruit and received a few small pieces of strawberry and pineapple. I also asked for ketchup and it still had not arrived when we requested the bill. The service was very slow and disappointing, and I would not go there again.
