Restaurant located in the heart of Whistler Village that boasts the best patio in town. Open Weekdays 11:30am-11pm; Weekends 10am-11pm.
I went on a beautiful evening, after going for a hike in the area. There were lots of people strolling around shopping or just taking in the sights. The area was filled with activity and the restaurants that have patios were full. We had a seat on La Bocca's raised patio and had a great view of the scenery.
We were quickly seated with our drinks. The first dish was the calamari. It was decently prepared, but average compared to what other places offer. I felt it could use more dipping sauce though. The batter was not crispy enough for my liking. Then we had the sphaghetti with tomato meat sauce. It is quite tasty, although the portion is small as were all the dishes. One thing I didn't like about it was the fairly large shredded onion leafs on top. Also it would have been nice to have some olive oil and balsamic vinegar to drizzle on top as well. Final dish was the chicken with vegetables. It was okay. The chicken was carefully cooked and done well. Again, I felt this dish to be quite small.
For the price the food portions are small. But the price pretty much reflects what other restaurants are charging in the area. I also won't be surprised if other places are similar in their portion size. You don't get much value in Whistler. I was left with a good impression of the place for its service and scenery, but my stomach was still not satisfied.
I just have to say that the miso cod at La Bocca was one of the most enjoyable meals I've had in Whistler. We visit Whistler often and for a place that's perfectly placed to price-gouge, I'm thrilled to know that La Bocca offers great food and service at a reasonable price. I wouldn't have opted for the gelato dessert until the waiter steered me toward it insisting that it was as good as you might find in Italy...and it was!
Immediate seating by a friendly host promised a good dining experience. However, the service was incredibly slow and the food was NOT worth the wait. We waited more than an hour between courses, and the dishes were mediocre or down-right deceptive. The salad dressings scream "Bottle". The grilled prawns were neither grilled nor prawns, they were sauteed shrimp. The tomato soup might have passed for spaghetti sauce, but it wasn't soup. Well, at least the sparkling water was cold. Do yourself a favor and keep walking.
On a recent trip to Whistler, we decided to try out La Bocca. I had read the reviews on here and it seemed like a sure bet. Unfortunately we were extremely mislead. I ordered a garden salad and flat bread, both $14. If I'm paying $14 for a garden salad, it better be the best salad I've ever had, however, it was just some dirt tasting mixed greens and kraft raspberry vinegrette. I couldn't even finish it due to the overwhelming taste of dirt and low quality ingrediants. My fiancee tried the spaghetti bolognese for $23. It consisted of about a cup of pasta and a 1/4 cup of meat sauce...I think that speaks volumes for the low quality of this restaurant. Go here if you want crappy food that is extremely overpriced and don't be fooled by an exotic looking menu and all the people on the patio, they are probably just drinking the $10 martinis and beers and too drunk differentiate between quality food and crap.
We came to La'Bocca at 8.30pm on Saturday night. We had a reservation for 8.30 and were seated inside in about 10 min.
It took the server about 40 min to deliver our drinks. In about 20 min we got our appetizers and two people got their entrees. The others had to wait for their food until 10pm. I am not kidding. .. We waited for 1.5 hour for our food and we were so hungry and angry at the end that we just wanted to leave without paying them.. This restaurant had spoiled our vacation!
The waiter said that they are understaffed and this is what causing all the problems. But why it should be our problem??
The food was not ok. My veggies were undercooked, the snitzell was a little too spicy and dry, the steaks are terribly small ($34 for such a small steak??)
15% gratuity is included in the bill.
We paid $150 for 3 people for absolutely nothing except for a terrible service.
We ate at this restaurant for lunch today and really enjoyed ourselves. We got a great spot on the patio and the beautiful sunny day topped it off. i had the beef stir fry which was good although the sauce was a little too thick. My husband had the tuna steak which came with a sesame seed crust. They were a little on the burnt side so when he complained, the waiter apologized and brought a new steak and couldn't have been nicer about it.
