Good for light eaters

Tried this place once for lunch.

I was a bit worried upon walking in, the place was emtpy at lunch. The place looked a bit beat up too. However, things got better from there.

The food was well presented, good quality, and generally tasty. Tasty sockeye salmon was used for all our salmon sashimi. Only qualm with taste was the beef teriyaki was a bit chewy. The biggest negative for us was the portion sizes seemed a bit on the small side. It's an hour after we ate and I'm actually getting hungry again.

The lone waitress who served us was very nice and checked on us often but wasn't intrusive. Our daughter was given kids cutlery (disney/etc) to use which she appreciated. She also got chocolates at the end. This is not typical for a Japanese restaurant. Kids are easy to bribe so now my daughter very much like the place.

The decor could use some improvement. It's strange as it's not really Japanese at all, it's more like a country inn. Most of the chairs and tables don't match. The place is pretty worn looking. It ends up having a very homely feel. If my Japanese mother in law opened a restaurant it would look just like it. On some level that isn't bad. It is clean.

In summary it's good food and service in a homely decor. While good I probably won't return often as the portion sizes just seem too small. There are other places on the block where I can eat and leave full.

I can guarantee that this restaurant has the best tasting sushi in the north shore.

Additional information: The owner of yomi's sushi & noodle house has changed. The interiors changed, and definitely the quality of the food. In 2009, there will be changes made in this restaurant. Its' name will change to 'Sakana', and a whole new menu will be made.
