Had lunch here last summer.
It's french cuisine leaning to the upscale side but not too expensive. They often have some kind of 3 course special running. I was worried it would be too fancy pants and pretentious for my liking but it felt just right as I don't like to dine in places where you have to worry about your correct dining behaviour and pay way too much for too little.
I had a very tasty french onion soup. It was large and I was almost done after eating that. Wife had a caeser salad which was also tasty. I had some kind of quiche dish which didn't set me on fire but I didn't expect it to as I don't love quiche, but felt like tyring it anyway. Wife had chicken, which was good. The surprising thing was we couldn't finish our food. That's just never happened in any kind of upscale place we've been too (Cannery, Hart House, Horizons, etc.). Big points for this as nothing I hate more than blowing $100 on dinner then feeling like I need to stop by McDonalds to fill up the rest of the way.
Service was professional and warm. The owner is walking around and conversing with the odd customers who I figure are regulars. The restaurant is upstairs so you catch a bit of a view of stanley park and the ocean.
I'll be back some day when I get the chance.
Was here on a very quiet Tuesday night and what gave me the impression of an upscale restaurant from the outside ended up being an ok dining experience.
I'm an all round dining experience kind of person. I need to have a standard of ambiance, service and food quality in order for me to return. The food was good enough.. nothing to complain but the decore of the establishment was completely dated. It must of done really well in the 80's but this isn't at all inviting. The restaurant is upstairs and the whole time I just couldn't get that "hey this is a nice place" feel in me.
They did have a table of regulars and they seem to love it.. but they were easily in their 60's so I'm guessing this isn't our kind of scene.
Won't be back because nothing was particularly great and the ambiance lacked for me.
