Milestones serves a seasonally rotating menu of Internationally inspired cuisine in stylish, relaxed atmosphere.
I've been a long time milestone's fan and eaten at another Burnaby location many a time before moving close to this location.
What I really love about Milestone's is the food. They make some tasty stuff. My compliments to their executive chef. Their burgers have been one my favourites - though I must say it seems like they have tweaked them once in a while and I've actually thought they got a bit worse each time. They also used to have 7 different burgers and are now down to 3 or 4 - that is one my other complaints, they have a knack for removing my favourite items from the menu (andoulie sausage wrap, argh).
Now I would normally give milestone's higher marks than this review, but the several times I've been to this location the service has been below par, quite below in some cases. We pretty much stopped going which is a shame as I really do love the food. I never came close to the poor service we had here at the other locations. We'll try it again once in a while to see if it gets any better.
If you're ever craving steak, Milestones is the spot and the West Vancouver location is my favourite. They have fast service, great place to unwind, chat with friends and satisfy your hunger.
The steak I had was great in taste and seasoned perfectly, and they know how to prepare steak the right way. If I'm really hungry, I love their Portabello Mushroom Chicken served with Mashed Potatoes, talk about heavenly.
Great spot for any type of meal, big or small, its done right.
The last time we stopped here for lunch, the chef had gone pepper crazy.. pepper on everything and lots of it. Bleh! Went again over the weekend and it was very much improved all allround. We got seated on the patio as soon as we'd asked to and our server, Mark, was there within minutes asking about beverages,... even made recommendations. Capiwi was yum!! Was a little unsure as it's $7.99 for a beverage but turned out to be worth it. When it came time for food, he offered to make a sauce substituion for me without hesitation when I mentioned food restrictions. Some places make a face when you ask but for him to offer without hesitating was awesome! Food was hot, properly seasoned and plentiful. I had lots for lunch the next day. Everyone was working smoothly and efficiently and one thing that was impressive was that the manager, Chris, was right in there working the floor with the staff. Friendly and cheerful, they answered questions without pause. We will be back again for sure. The pepper incident is now forgotten.
When I want to go out for dinner and know that I am going to have absolutely delicious food Milestones if the place to go. Never once have I ever been disappointed. The food is always cooked perfect. Tastes delicious. Service fast and friendly and they make an awesome Ceasar drink :-)
That is one restaurant I know that no matter what I try on the menu it is always delicious. This is a restaurant that has chefs who know how to cook and consistently always delicious. When people ask me what restaurant they I would like to have a gift certificate for I always request one for Milestones.
After the renovation of this location a few years ago, which ruined the look and feel of the restaurant, I had not been back. And haven't been to any Milestone's locations for several years...
When this location opened in the mid 90s, I ate there a lot. The atmosphere was great - the bar area, was open, airy and conducive to enjoying yourself. Had many great times there.
But, as a result of the renovation, the bar was butchered and the fabulous French doors leading out to the patio were covered up with orange panels, making the restaurant dark and depressing.
Anyway, I had dinner there recently. The food was never outstanding and I can vouch for that as I have eaten at this location more times than I can count.
All three of us had the Portobello Mushroom Chicken. It was ok, large portion though. I think it was $17.49 which seemed a bit pricey for a casual dining entree.
The service was good - pleasant and prompt.
Unless someone really wants to go to the Park Royal location, I will not return because of the dreadful ambiance.
I am not returning to this MILESTONE'S because I had a bad experience.
Our family goes loves the burgers and salads and we went in to have a light lunch with our 2 year old.
We ordered our favourite salad and a burger combo and fries to share with our little one.
When our order arrived, there were no strawberries in the salad. NO BIG deal if they told us that they ran out and substituted something for it.
But the server walked away without a single word. We were focussed on feeding the 2 year old that when we looked at the salad, we noticed it right away.
We waited for the waiter/server to return and asked her about it. She said, they just ran out of strawberries when our order when in and could not stop the order.
Well, then, she should have immediately told us and told us when the food came so we could change our order to something else.
NO APOLOGIES. Just ... here is the info. Normally if there was a situation, they would offer a substitute fruit on it.
Well, the bill came and we got charged exactly for the salad as it. I asked the server about the salad price as the key item was left out.
She said she would have to talk to her manager. The manager returned and said he could only take $1 off.
I didn't care about the $1. As someone who loves and worked in the food industry, service and empowerment is primary to helping your employees take responsibility.
We paid our bill and did our usual 15% tip but left there with just a bad feeling.
I then realized that if the SERVER/WAITOR took ownership, we would be fine paying whatever. ALL she had to do was to BE UPFRONT. Why did I have to flag her down 2x to get an answer?
Well, I spoke to the manager and told him exactly that. We would have ordered something totally different if we knew there was no strawberries. That is our favourite salad and without it... well it not the same. We were tired and hungry and had a 2 year old to tend to. So we finished our salad.
The PRINCIPLE is that we had to talk to the server 2x and 2X to the manager.
After my honest feedback that all she had to do was tell us and not let us flag her down for an explanation, everything would be different.
Well on our way out the door, the manager then offers a free appetizer or salad for our next meal.
There WON'T be a next time for me a in long time.
We use to go here a lot. We loved the burger and the California salad which was my favorite.
What ever is changing lately I do not know, but the salad got much smaller and more expensive. The taste of the salad is different. On the other food the size got smaller too, and sometimes I find them too spicy.
Service of course changes all the time. there are new people always and some of them are really robotic. Or too anxious almost annoyingly hyper.
the restaurant is not bad, but I find it too dark. When it is too dark, it gives you the feeling of an old basement.
It might work for young people, but with kids and also for older people it is not really accommodating.
I see all kind of people there and trust me we like to see our food.
Sometimes I come out with an uneasy feeling. As the place is big and very open and dark it can almost echoey.
I wish the prices would be better, lower or the food could go back to the size it was 2-3 years ago.
I feel like this restaurant has within the past year or so changed management, because it went from a great place, to a convenient place. Being the only milestones on the north shore where else can you get a great brunch. There was a young host there for years who knew us as regulars who is no longer there. The atmosphere feels colder than it used to for some reason. The servers and hosts seem robotic, the food is consistently the same. Whatelse can you expect from a chain restaurant?
I have been quite generous with my review for one simple reason: consistancy. I have eaten at this milestones many, many times over the years and in my mind it is one of my favourite restuarants. In general I will go to great lengths to avoid eating at franchises like Earls, Cactus Club, and Steamworks (terrible). Even other Milestone locations, I've been disappointed by one thing or another. As with most Milestones, the ambiance is usually a little better than average. Nothing amazing, but always pleasant. The food is good, and the pricing is reasonable. Personally, I really like trying the specials because they normally suit the season well but you can always count on the classics on the menu. Again, nothing absolutely amazing.
However, this particular location I hold in especially high regard because I have never had anything less than a great dining experience here. My family absolutely loves the service. Everything arrives in a timely fashion, and you never find yourself being rushed to the next course. Any special requests or things we didn't like about the food has been corrected quickly by smiling staff. We've been personally approached by a manager (on several occasions!) after we complimented staff on the great food and service and were invited for free appetizers the next time we came.
So the next time you are at Park Royal thinking of eating at Cactus Club, go get a table at Milestones instead.
