Two full meals for takeout: $14.70

We called ahead tonight and picked up two bento boxes suitable for Olympic TV viewing (truth be told, I did the same thing last night when all family members but me were off to the opening ceremonies). We are regulars at Dundarave Sushi. It's not about the ambiance or the table service, it is about the efficiency, quality, and the value. This is a great neighbourhood place.

Great Find for West Vancouver

Me and the boyfriend were in the Dundarave area burning some time before dinner at his parents' house. We knew we had to eat, since it was already the afternoon and we'd only had breakfast until then.

Dundarave Sushi looked great - inexpensive, quick, and light. There was a great bargain advertised on the sandwich board outside. Two combos at only $6.95 each! Of course, being the piglets that we are, we ordered something else off the menu. For $13.95, we shared a combo that included miso soup, tuna, tai, and salmon sashimi, two pieces of california roll, tuna, salmon, ebi, tamago and kani sushis, a green salad, and side of tempura of generous proportions.

At first I was reluctant to agree to order the combo, but once the tray of food came, I was glad I ordered it.

The food was delicious and the fish and tempura were so fresh! I literally ate my first piece of tai sashimi and said to the beau, "the north shore is really the place to go for sushi."

I'm glad to have found Dundarave Sushi - it offers fresh sashimi and sushi at a great price. I would definately return again.

I decided to try this place for a late lunch and the food was delicious. I had ordered the Chicken teriyaki box & I added tuna, salmon & prawn ebi to my meal.

I found the salmon, prawn & tuna very fresh and presented well. I did like the chicken teriyaki box, came with rice, salad, 3 pieces of california roll and tempura. I did try to order coca cola, but I think they ran out of stock, I got 7up in the can, with no glass and it was luke warm, didn't finish it.

My meal came to $13.00 in change but found the server too young & inexperience, when it came to getting my bill.

Note to everyone, this isn't a very big place, about 8 tables & 4 chairs at the sushi bar. I think alot of their orders are take out due, to the size of the place.

I like their food, I would return but for take out.

Misunderstood

After reading the other reviews for this tiny sushi place, I think the expectations are a lot higher than they should be and customers are getting disappointed because of that.

It is a small, really cheap, high turnover restaurant with 7 or so tables. I agree, the server is abrupt and quiet but c'mon it's the same girl every lunch and afternoon as far as I can tell, and she's covering twice the amount of tables any server at most other restaurants would have. Even then, she still remembered what we ordered after only our second visit.

Regardless, I find the service is accurate, extremely well priced and good quality. The food is on the table within 10 minutes of sitting down and it's hot and fresh. The ambience sucks and the service is dry but what do you expect for that price? C'mon people. You get what you pay for.

I've come here twice and love it so much.

First time:

Food: We ordered the beef teriyaki bento box, the 18 piece roll combo with a yam roll, california roll and tuna roll, and hokkigai, salmon and negitoro nigiri. The fish was DELICIOUS. The bento comes with tempura, salad, miso, rice and 3 pieces of California roll, as well as tender beef on a bed of marinated cabbage. The rolls are great, neatly made and well presented. I burned my mouth on the tempura--careful, it's very hot. (Which shows it's freshly made :)

Service: The one waitress was a bit abrupt, and never said anything besides Uh huh, nor did she ever smile, but she gave us our food quickly. She looked a bit inconvenienced when we asked her to pack up the leftovers.

Value: Our bill came to only 17.45.

Ambiance: It's a small place, but it's clean.

Second time around, we were remembered and got a smile from the waitress! This time we ordered the chicken bento, the roll combo again and a chopped scallop roll. We were sitting at the bar and asked the chef to substitute the tuna roll for negitoro, and he happily complied with no extra charge! The chopped scallop roll was fantastic, and the chicken bento was just was good as the beef. Again, the bill was small, only 17.75!! However,
when we asked the waitress to pack up our leftovers, she only packed the chicken. Maybe they have an issue with that, I don't know.

All in all, great for some good, fast, inexpensive sushi. Not to be missed.

will never go back

I have eaten here a few times and have always found the waitress incredibly unfriendly and the service slow but because of a convenient location would sometimes go back with friends and with my kids. Never again. Today I was served an udon soup with a huge piece of eggshell in it. Gross. When I pointed this out the waitress said "Oh well, that can happen just put it on the side". She made no offer to replace it and when our party left she and the owner still wanted to charge us for the soup which I did not eat. Not only that we had to ask several times to get water, my friends' orders took ages and did not come at the same time, we never received our tea and we had to go up to the counter to get our bill. Better to go to nearby Kin sushi - they are always friendly and the sushi is just as good. This restaurant is getting by on it's location and treats its customers very badly.

Extremely Cheap and Pretty good

Lately I have gone to Dundarave Sushi a lot. The prices are very cheap and the sushi is actually pretty good. You can get a miso soup California roll, a yam roll and a cucumber roll for only 6 bucks. The kitchen stuff is also pretty good. Just a warning though DO NOT GET the Gome salad it came out frozen when I got it. At the end of the day yes there are better sushi places in west van but Dundarave sushi is a nice clean and cheap place to eat or get take out from!
