I'll take the halibut...
By missbehaviour of Vancouver (11 Reviews)
Submitted Wednesday, February 8, 2012 - 3:03pm [Take-out]

Mr. B and I missed the 3pm sailing by mere seconds......leaving us with nearly 2 hours on a sunny day to wander around Horseshoe Bay.

Our dog had earlier scarfed our leftover roast beef (intended for sandwiches - we wouldn't want to be tempted by the overpriced offerings on the ferry!) and as we couldn't find a decent deli in the village to replace the meat that the dog had pillaged, we decided on C-Lovers.

Now, I'm not a fish & chips person - I mean I like it, but I tend to avoid deep fried anything - so this is something I'll have maybe once or twice a year, and the only other place I've gotten fish & chips from in the past couple of years is Moby Dick's in White Rock - I always find them to be delicious.

So, back to C-Lovers. I had the dog in tow, so it was up to Mr. B to order. He came out bearing 2 very large paper wrapped packages - a single order of halibut and chips for each of us. I have to admit, it smelled delicious.

Unwrapping our treasures, we discovered more fries than we could handle. Mr. B commented that perhaps he should've ordered a 2 piece as one order of fried would have fed us both quite nicely.

The halibut was really good. The batter was not too thick, the fish was tasty, and wasn't offensively greasy. Mr. B wished for more fish!

The fries, well, they were real potatoes and could have been good but unfortunately were undercooked - so they went right to the trash bin. Yup, nothing worse than a soggy underdone french fry - we must remember to order fries a little on the overdone side! The tartar sauce was disappointing as well. Just a takeout packet - not even a little tub - alongside a lonely packet of vinegar - and only one each! No lemon, salt or pepper to be found in the takeout wrapper....wet wipes and utensils would have been a nice touch - we felt a wee bit abandoned....left out at sea, perhaps?

The halibut was good though! And for under 20 bucks beat the pants off of anything from the boat.
