American cheese ruined it for me

I came here soon after it opened and have been back a few times.

This place is like the runt out of the surrounding restaurants that are all very similar to it (Cactus, Steamworks, etc.).

The menu is fairly small. I've had a number of things on the menu. Most things are decent, some are just ok, or a bit bland. But what really made me give the low food score is the burger. It was the first thing I ordered there and I was shocked when I tasted processed cheese in it. I swear it didn't say that on the menu, but on further visits I think it then said "american cheese" (nice euphemism), not sure if they changed it after. Anyway, that destroyed the burger for me, it sucked. Any place that serves processed cheese on anything gets stars knocked off.

Service can't complain about, its been very good a couple of times, and good enough other times.

Anyway my later visits were only made when the surrounding restaurants were busy. I haven't been back in a long time. When I walk by now it doesn't look very busy. They are not getting it right and their problem is the menu food, selection, and value.

I went here with my husband after having gone to Browns on Lonsdale for appies and enjoying it a few years earlier. After looking at the menu that had little on it to begin with, the waitress first began by telling us all the things they didn't have... which included over half of the menu's entrees.

I decided to get an Avocado salad, when it arrived, there was no avocado on it... so I asked the waitress. The manager then came out and said he was terribly sorry but there was no avocado left. I told him the entire reason I ordered an Avocado salad was for the Avocado... he said he would make it up to me...

When we got the bill, he had deducted $1 from the cost of the salad! I thought this was extremely poor customer service. Ludicrous. I mean you order a chicken sandwich and they bring you the bun and don't say anything, so you ask where's the chicken and they say "oh we are out of chicken."... Honestly, it would have been better if they'd ask the busboy to run to Whole foods and buy a few avocados.

We went there to celebrate my wife's birthday on a Saturday night. We found the place very empty for such a medium size restaurant. Just a few tables outside and almost no one inside. As we where waiting for other guests to arrive, we looked at the menu and found it to be really small. Finally I ordered the salad with the seared ahi tuna and I was pleasantly surprised; I had low expectations because I was not sure what to eat. The ahi tuna was perfectly seared and the salad dressing was excellent. There was nothing left when I finished and was quite filling too. My wife and other guests ordered the fish bowls; there were also quite surprised and we will definitely go back. The thing that attracted to us the most were the interesting menu items and also because there is plenty of parking outside at Park Royal Village.

The Browns looks great. They spare no expense on decor but the food is typical. The value is not great. Would I go again? Sure but would not be my first choice.

I was impressed with the layout and set-up of the place. The design and look is really good. They make an effort to upscale the food also but have not been as successful.

Chicken wasn't cooked!

I definitely wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. The appetizer was alright, but then I was served raw chicken for the main course. I'm usually pretty tolerant of mistakes, but this chicken wasn't even close to being cooked. The service and atmosphere was decent, but it's definitely a little hard to appreciate those things when you are expecting your food to come back up in a few hours... I think this is pretty needless to say, but I'm obviously never going to consider going back.

Not feeling the food...

After trying the Browns on Lonsdale two years ago, and was disappointed, I have not ventured back until recently for lunch.

I haven't missed much... Browns is as dismal as it was the first attempt at this small chain.

Food - I had the pizza special for $8. Even at its reduced price, it was not really a pizza but more like a flat bread with a few minuscule toppings. Like three shrimp. A few flecks of feta.

If I had paid the regular price of $13 for the pizza, I would have felt really ripped off.

Service - Attentive, friendly and courteous. Repeatedly asked for refills on iced tea and coffee.

Ambiance - Retro 60s. It wasn't that busy but got quite loud. Music was a bit much. It has an ok vibe. Nothing special though.

Overall, not recommended.

Good for a pre-night out.

I prefer this place over milestones or cactus club because I like their selection of food much better. I usually find something I like to eat in their menu. Service is good and they handle special requests well (i.e. they actually remember it). The best thing about this place is their portions, for me. It`s just enough to get me satisfied, but not too much that I`ll be too full to do anything afterwards. Great for a meal before going out and having fun.

Enjoyable Experience

Coming to the Park Royal Village there are quite a few restaurants to choose from. Instead of going to the regular Catus or The Taphouse, I went to Brown's Social House and enjoyed my time there very much. They have great service and cheerful staff. I find the food selection much better than Cactus, Brown's has more to choose from. I've recommended Brown's to many people, who also enjoyed their visit to the restaurant.
