I was walking along Dundarave, over the weekend, seen the Bakehouse many times with lots of people, and decided to order sandwich. I tried a multigrain turkey sandwich, and for $7.50, It was okay.
The place wasn't too busy, the service was friendly, the bake all their breads and decided to order it. The turkey had flavour, but I found the bread to be dry side.
Glad I tried it, with so many other places to explore, I try something else another time I'm back in the area.
Recently visited for lunch and had the Grilled Cheese. Very good. The coffee was also surprisingly tasty.
The ambiance is unfortunately lacking. Really not suitable for more than two people with the cafeteria style set up. Not for a relaxing, leisurely lunch.
Was very busy during the peak lunch period so come early or later to avoid line ups and lack of tables.
I had a luncheon of friends and bought an apple pie for dessert.
As soon as I cut the first slice, the gooey dark brown spice mixture flowed out from the bottom. By the look of this dark brown fluid, somebody must have dumped several teaspoons of it in the pie. My brave guests ventured to eat it but couldn't because all they could taste was cinnamon and it was dark brown ugly and unpleasantly untasty!
I looked for my receipt to return the pie but couldn't find it. I called The Bakehouse and the girl who answered the phone told me that they didn't give receipts unless asked for them. What? She told me that I could return it for a refund. Her attitude was so flippant as to be almost rude. Then I spoke with the baker who indignantly told me that she had never had a complaint before. I thought, who cares? You've got one now!
I have avoided The Bakehouse ever since a previous poor experience there.
After this, I will not return other than to return their cinnamon pie.
By the way, the price is okay if you like cinnamon pie.
The service is flippant, bordering on rude.
Contrary to the previous review, I consider the Dundarave Bakery Cafe a perfect spot for a nutritious and delicious lunch. The food is stunningly fresh, the two soups are made from scratch each day, and in my experience absolutely any special request is accommodated with pleasure and good cheer. Yes, you do order from the counter, but the food is brought promptly to your table by a very charming and cheerful staff.
