I tried this quaint restaurant for lunch and was impressed with my meal & service. It wasn't too busy for late lunch and I had the Spaghetti Bolognese with mozzarella cheese that the chef baked. The portion was perfect, the meat sauce didn't have overwhelming taste of too much tomatoe paste or sauce.
I did have dessert, which was unbelievable, light and got better with each bite, the tiramisu, was a great ending to my lunch.
I thought the size of the place was charming, open, friendly and I would come back to try something else.
Walked Marine drive looking to eat and happened across Amore. The specials listed outside for under $10 caught our attention as many other average places along Marine are overpriced.
It's a bit hard to describe this place as I can't think of anything that similar I have been to before. It is very small, only about 15 feet wide and maybe 50 feet deep. The entire restaurant is contained within this open space, including the kitchen, dishwasher, and everything. There are only about 10 or so tables, and they are all covered with nice fresh white tablecloths and nice cutlery and napkins. The place is recently opened so it looks pretty spiffy. It is strange though because without a few of the nicer touches and newness you could easily imagine it for a greasy take out joint (they do specialize in take out as well it looks like).
On a weeknight the entire restaurant was efficently run by two people. The owner is dressed in a nice chef uniform and he's cooking the food and doing whatever else it takes like bussing tables and bringing food to get the job done. The waitress is taking orders, bringing food, and even doing the dishes. So you can see it is very small and intimate.
The pretty waitress was efficient and timely but seemed shy and not personable (no smile, chat, etc.).
Food started off with fresh garlic bread that was very good, dripping with butter. The pizza is hand tossed thin crust style and it was very good. The lasagna didn't do it for me however. Maybe it's just the authentic style as I had something similar at Marcello's I didn't like. An Anton's lasagna tastes way better to me.
The most schocking thing were the prices on the menu. I just did not expect the prices to be so low for authentic Italian in this area of town. Our meal for two including pop and tax came to $22.
Overall I really enjoyed the unique experience and I'll be back to try a few more things. It is probably higher than 3 stars but hard to tell from one visit.
As the first reviewer points out that garlic bread is both dripping in butter and garlic which I must say is quite tasty.
Friendly staff and chef. Kitchen is quaint and not closed off from the restaurant. Always nice to see what condition a kitchen is in. Clean and welcoming restaurant that won't break the bank.
Tasteless food, rude server/chef
We had high expectations but were disappointed. We waited a long time, the server/chef was rude and didn't take the time to explain the food or make us feel welcome. It wasn't busy, so there's no excuse not to chat for a short while. Politeness still counts in life. We did enjoy the garlic toast, but that's about it.
