This place kind of leaves me feeling conflicted. The menu is interesting and I always find their food to be tasty and interesting, but I find that their burgers are waayyy to saucy and sometimes the sauce drowns out the other flavours. While eating my plate is always covered in liquidy sauce that is too thin to soak up with fries or to swipe the burger in, these are not drips - its like running out of the burger. Their offerings are interesting enough that I can try to overlook this flaw but I always feel like they have just missed the mark a little bit which I think is a shame!
The ambiance is nice and the service is friendly.
This place is awesome, we eat here several times a month at least. The packaging that the food comes in seems tiny, the first time we went we were feeling ripped off and worried we hadn't ordered enough food on our way home but when we emptied out the containers we discovered very generous portions that were just tightly packed (environmentally friendly!).
The flavors are exciting, satisfying, and well balanced, the service is always friendly and laid back, and the menu has a variety of interesting options. They have daily specials to supplement the small menu.
Try the papaya salad and the french lentil dahl (a frequent offering on their specials board). If they offered the dahl on their main menu I think I would eat it every day (except you might want to skip the fried bread it is a bit greasy).
They once had a curry chicken bahn mi that was seriously THE BEST sandwich I have EVER eaten.
Try this next time you are thinking of Noodle Box and you will not be disappointed!!!
Don't even bother trying this place....we waited over an hour for our dinner..we never got an explanation or a "sorry for the wait" when we were finally served the portions were so small it was a joke....the 18,95 prawn dish didn't even come with rice.....we had to spend another 5,95 for some dry rice....over 60,00 and that would feed one person....try up the road on the same street for much better service and value in East Indian dining...NEVER EVER go here..................
this used to be the most mediocre restaurant around. we tried it when they first opened it was okay but nothing to write about. We went there a year ago or so and it was garbage. I thought we would never go there again, until someone said to us that it was really good. Intrigued by the kids eat free menu on tuesdays, and the fact that another foodie said it was worth it, we went..... It was awesome. .... they made a major change to the menu, .and they now have all you can eat ribs all day every day. their prices are better than Kelsey's, and we left satisfied. We have made it our tuesday night spot and everything we have tried on the menu so far has ben outstanding..... two thumbs up for the new kitchen staff at Montana's . I am now a convert.
A few of us decided to try out this place that we heard about through friends. The Egg Benedict special was amasing. My wife had the special cajun seafood benedict and she absolutely loved the combination with the sundried tomato hollandaise. the Omellette was very tasty and we really enjoyed the fresh baked bread and the coffee and lattes were well worth the drive. Next time we come to Victoria, we will definitely stopping here again.
Well I think we are done with the keg. We decided to just do some appys and a driand in the lounge because there was a 20 minute wait.. service was ok but nothing special, the atmosphere was terrible, as the lounge is set up be uncomfortable and crowned, the old lounge the had here years ago was much better... Plus the fact the the hockey game in the big screen with some idiot sitting at the bar by himself, yelling screaming and clapping, did nothing but piss everyone off in the whole place.. Thanks so much for not telling the guy to be quiet...
Then the food came, tuna tacos, absolutely gross, shells were dripping with grease and tasted like the fish was sitting out for a while.... Gross is the only thing I can say, crab cakes, might as well came out of a package...... This place is over priced, over rated and nothing like it used to be... I'm done with the keg... Never again
We went to this restaurant the other night and found the food to be "lacking" any quality. We waited for a long time before our meals came and I just found it a little disappointing. My husband enjoyed it more than I did. We really don't think we would go back.
Having said that, our server, Heather, was high quality. She was sweet, efficient, always smiling and made our visit there much better. She is a credit to the restaurant.
I have been to Veneto a few times since it opened, and have always had a great time. The drink list is fantastic with a lot of variety and fun items, and the food menu is great with all of the options of tasting trios and light snacks. I like the idea that you can order crab or other items and taste it served 3 different ways, and that you can try a few things on the menu without getting too full. Nice lounge ambiance and the service is friendly and helpful.
I used to go to Zambris when it was at its old location and loved it. It was the first really good italian that I had in Victoria, and I love the seasonal menu and fresh ingredients. Since its moved I have been back several times. We usually sit at the bar, and have always had great service. The atmosphere is lively, but nice for a date also. The pizza, pasta, salads and appetizers never disappoint and their tirimisu is one of the best in town. Always quite busy so good idea to make a reservation or be open to sitting at the bar.
I have been to tapa bar many times, and still think its a great place to go for a drink and a few snacks. its busy even during the week which is nice for a lively atmosphere, and the drink menu has lots of variety. Mojitos and sagria are delicious. Although I always go back, I have never found the food here to be amazing. There a few great staples, like the bacon-wrapped dates, but a lot of things I have tried are nothing to rave about.
I have been here many times and have always had great food. Butter chicken, curries, pakoras, samosas, and naan are some of the best. The service here is always good, the drink menu is better than most indian places, and the atmosphere is nice enough for a date. The prices are a little high, but in general indian food isn't very cheap in Victoria.
I went to Smoken Bones for a birthday dinner recently and it wasn't very good at all. Several people at the table ordered ribs, which I thought should be good since its a BBQ place, and they had to be cut apart with a steak knife. 2 people ordered soup and it had to be sent back because it was terrible (I pretty much never send food back at a restaurant, but I tasted it and it was awful). The pulled pork wasn't great, the fried pickles had way too much batter, and pretty much the only good thing we ordered was the yam fries. It was pretty sad and we are not a picky group. However, the drink menu was fun and the few cocktails I tried were really good, the server was also friendly and helpful and I felt bad for her for having to serve such bad food. Don't go here to eat, seriously.
I went to this place as soon as it opened, before they even had a liquor license and we were sitting at a picnic table, and the food was amazing and since then the interior is decorated with a nice ambiance, they have a somewhat regualr bar menu, and we have been back many times. I think this place has the cheapest and most consistently good indian food in the downtown area. The butter chicken, curry, and pakoras are amazing, best butter chicken in Victoria by far. The prices are also good (cheaper than spice jammer, our favourite place before real taste of india opened). The wait time for food is usually 20-30 minutes, and the servers are helpful, yet sometimes things do get lost in translation, but we are patient and understanding because we love this place.
Have been here a few times in the past year, the steaks have always been great as well as the appetizers. The ambience in here is really nice, and the service has been good every time. They have a variety of items on the menu but I seem to always go with the steak, and seafood as an appy, have not been disappointed and they have a great selection of wine.
I went to Matisse for the first time 2 weeks ago with my boyfreind, and really enjoyed the entire experience. The service from the moment we walked in the door was amazing, The owners' passion for food was evident, and the menu was very difficult to choose from as there are so much great options. We shared the pate and Lobster Bisque to start, both were delicious. Then came our mains of lamb and duck. The lamb was tender and juicy with a great sauce and perfect sized portion, the duck was also good but I liked the lamb better. We finished the meal with creme brulee, and it was as expected, amazing! its a quiet and upscale atmosphere which is great for a date, I felt like I was valued as a customer and the food lived up to matisse's reputation, will definitely be back.
most authentic and delicious poutine in Victoria by far. If you are from Quebec you won't be disappointed. great place to stop by for a snack during the day or at night. Prices are resonable and service is great. I have looked far and wide for an authentic poutine place and I have finally found it.
Almost every weekend we stop by this italian deli for a meatball sub, panini, or soup. The meatball panino is the best i have had, and the ingredients in all sandwiches are always fresh and tasty. Service is quick, as this place is often lined up, and there is a few small tables with chairs if you want to dine in. The prices are very reasonable for the sandwiches. The soups here are usually amazing, restaurant quality (lobster bisque is heavenly!). There is also a few delcious pre-made salads to choose from, and while you are grabbing lunch you can order some italian deli meat, cheese, or pasta for dinner as well.
Whenever I feel the need to eat lunch out, I usually stop by the Grindstone cafe and grab one of their delicious homemade soups, and the apple chicken panini (amazing!). Their sandwiches are filling and delicious with real ingredients and their soups are always well flavoured and unique. The prices and fair for what you are getting and the service is always freindly and quick.
I live close by and have tried many items at Fol Epi. The fresh baked bread is to die for, they usually have a selection of baguette and rye. The bread is 8.00 a loaf, so not a bargain, but worth it once in awhile if you ask me. The macroons here are amazing and authentic, and come in many flavours. The pastries are delicate and come in perfect portions, pair any baked good with a coffee from Discovery Coffee right next to Fol Epi and enjoy a relaxing morning or afternoon sitting on the patio in the sun.
I have been to this hole in the wall in Esquimalt a few times and have never been disappointed. Their donair meats are authentic and stuffed inside large warm pitas with veggies and delicious sauces. Very reasonably priced and I haven't found a better place to pick up a donair and greek salad for take out. Service is fine, not overly freindly, but I think it kind of adds to the personality of the place. If you want a nice place to sit down, this is not the place for you.
