Blending traditional Jewish breakfast dishes and West Coast breakfast favorites, brothers Jesse & Daniel Blades, along with chef Erin Gray, bring you a menu crafted by a passion for great cooking and their favorite meal of the day! Among the many dishes served are traditional smoked brisket brought in from Montreal, challah French toast, latke potato pancakes, and cheese blintzes plus breakfast favorites like eggs-benedict made with free-run eggs, and big smoked-meat hashes.
The Village is committed to supporting a sustainable approach to food and the dining experience. All eggs served in the restaurant are high quality free run eggs. When possible all meats served are sustainably sourced and menu features are designed to work with locally available in-season produce. The Village also participates in an active composting program reducing all organic waste to less than 1%. As well, all glass, metal, and plastic are recycled along with all paper products from the restaurant.

One of the better restuarants in the Uvic area

There's not many restaurants in the vicinity of UVic that one could write home about. Not so with the Village Restaurant. A modest but elegant dining room, excellent service and a diverse menu that includes "kosher style" foods (basically Jewish food but not a kosher kitchen, although I don't recall seeing pork products on the menu). I had a vegetarian sandwich, the portions were solid and they obviously take care in their ingredients purchasing. This is a family-run restaurant that rides a wonderful line - balancing all the intimate and friendly aspects of a mom-and-pop business with the professionalism of contemporary culinary craft.

I tried this place for the first time today and had a great lunch. I had the September special sandwich which was roasted chicken with brie on toasted challah bread. It was to die for. It came with excellent cole slaw and a perfect dill pickle. It was pretty noisy so not a great place for consersation but cozy and good food.

My favorite Breakfast

My favorite breakfast is their from the garden benny on latkes. A must have. My girlfriend lives by the shakshuka, not my thing but she LOVES it.

Menu prices here are on par with the rest of the city, meaning a little overpriced as is everywhere else, but here I don;t mind loosening the purse strings a little.

The location is awesome, right in estevan village in Oak Bay. Beautiful sidewalk seating on a warm summers day.

The service is hit and miss. The one guy that is always there is great. I think he is a manager or owner, very happy and pleasant. It seems like some of their servers may need some fine tuning on multitasking since I never seem to get enough coffee or water fill ups. And often we will not get the brown sugar we ask for I'm not that needy, but I have noticed this more then once. ahh well, its a minor issue, but I will always return.
