Greek Food and Pasta
I went to Tino's 5 years ago on my birthday and received the worst service and meal that I had ever had in my life. When we first walked in it took 15 minutes for a waitress to come to our table, then it took an hour and a half for our meals to get to the table and my steak was the size of a 2 Dollar coin and burnt. The waitress gave us a bill for the full amount. I believe my mother only ended up paying half of the bill and even that was generous on my mothers part. FAST FORWARD>>>>>>>>Tonight 5 years later My mother insists on giving it another try (thankfuly tonight was not my birthday). So three of us went down there for dinner because my mother insisted that they had the best breaded veal cutlets. While the service was fast, there were only 2 waitresses on for the whole restaurant which was more than half full, and as you would imagine this negatively affected our service from her....She did not even have the time to get my mother's husband a cup of coffee when he ordered it. Me and my mothers husband ordered the same meal,,,the breaded Veal Cutlets. First we got our salads which were tiny in portion and had poor dressing on them. When our meals came there were two Overcooked breaded veal patties lying on top of eachother and piece of broccoli and a couple pieces of carrot. The Vegies were only half cooked, and the Lemmon potatoe that was served with it tasted rotten. If you pressed down on the veal patty you could see the oil it was fried in run out.....Someone Get Me A Bucket , I am gonna #*#*. And the inside of the cutlets looked like those pre-cooked chicken burger patties you buy down and Fairway Market with the mechanicaly seperated meat inside!! And in the end this plate cost me $16.00 dollars! I told the waitress that I understood she was busy cause the place was understaffed, but I asked her to pass on to the chef what a horrible meal it was. My mother's husbands veal cutlet plate was equally bad. Two times too many for this place folks...NEVER AGAIN
I love this family run restaurant because it's a little bit like dining at home in that the setting of the room and the server made me feel comfortable and welcomed. Even though they were super busy [including a large table of 20 people]on a Sunday night because of the Steak and Pasta deal I felt properly greeted, sat and recognized. While my three friends opted for items off the entree page of the expansive menu I wanted appies. The calamari was so tender and cooked just right. And I loved the house made tatziki! My partner and I both ate until we were full, each had coffee and a glass of wine and our dinner was only $43 I think that's great value.
The food was brought to us with a smiling face in a nice timely manner and I appreciated the friendly demeanor of our server. Even though it's the first time I've met her she treated us like old friends. She lacked a little of the finesse of a fine dining server, but I don't consider Tino's fine dining, more casual and family orientated. Having said that, when I asked for a glass of white wine the server inquired to my preference for sweet or dry white wine and made a suggestion on my answer, that doesn't happen at some of the fancier and more expensive restaurants I've been to.
I've never been disappointed with dining at Tino's and I've been there several times, and I'll keep going back for more [best liver with bacon and onions dish in town, yum!]
I say Keep up the Good Work!
Friday February 6th, after a busy day I took my friend out for a pieceful dinner and that's just what we received. The waitress was extremely helpful, when hearing about our day she sat us in the furthest corner of the room which made service of her section more difficult. She was quite knowledgable of the menu when suggesting items for our meals even though she staed she had not work there for very long. Our service as very prompt and our beverages never dropped below half.
It was explained that the dessings were made in house and the greek salads arrives crisp, fresh and very flavourful. My rib dinner had such tender meat that it practically fell off the bones. It was basted in a smoked bbq sauce and served with lemon roasted potatoes and steamed vegetables which were all cooked to perfection! My friend ordered the traditional chicken souvlaki dinner and the flavour of the rice was exceptional and the homemade Taziki was fantastic!
The portion sizes were large and our leftovers were packed in the cutest tinfoil swan! I wish we had enough room to sample the dessert menu. Before leaving the owner came out to address every table to ensure that experience had been to our satisfaction.
Considering this restaurant serves a daily 2for1 breakfast we will be back again.
Tino's is located in a mall complex with plenty of parking. Its standard greek/italian fare with pasta, pizza and souvlaki.
Its nothing special, like many other Greek restaurants. Food comes fast and hot and if you're hungry it would be a good choice to load up on carbs.
Well we came back, this time I brough my Mom and a friend of hers and my sister in-law. We all took advantage of the 2 for 1 breakfast and was actually expecting smaller portions since there was a deal involved. We were pleasantly surprised to find that they were just as large as the previous dining experience. We all took part in a menu item called the 3-3-3. It was 3 eggs as you like them, 3 pancakes and 3 portions of protien of your choice. Well the portion size was so large that it came out on two plates and the table was now full!
The service was fantastic considering that the place was packed. The dark hair woman that served us was joking with our table most of our stay which was quite entertaining for my Mom and her friend. Everyone around us seemed to be enjoying themselves and I'm sure that played into our enjoyable morning. If there had of been a wait for our meals, we never noticed it.
Considering that this is a family run establishment, I would much rather place my hard earned dollars here in the community. We extend out thanks to the server for making us feel so welcomed!
A group of friends and I decided to have lunch at Tino's 15 December 2009. We arrived at noon and ordered an appetizer (flatbread and humus) which arrived at about 12:15. We ordered our main dishes at about 12:25. Unfortunately we ran out of time at 1:30 and had to go back to work, our main dishes still unserved. While we waited over an hour I observed that there were 2 wait staff, the restaurant was not large, and it was not busy. The waitress blamed the long wait on the kitchen. I am not sure this is entirly true as I asked for a glass of water when the main dishes were ordered and I was still waiting for it when we left. In my opinion, it should not take over an hour to prepare and serve a glass of water. Overall it was a very unsatisfactory and low calorie experience.
The menu has some interesting looking items on it, but the food we were served (the appetizer and a coke) was very ordinary. I can't comment on the main dishes as they were never served.
The service was poor in the extreme. It was difficult to get the attention of the waitress and when we did get her attention, she left us with the impression that she would have been happier if we weren't there. Not rude, just completely disinterested in us. There was absolutely no "engagement" between the waitress and our party which might have made us feel welcome. My friends and I have quirky senses of humour and since this event we have all been trying to figure out how the place stays in business treating its customers as we were treated. Best guesses so far are that it is a money laundering operation or run to generate a tax loss. It is certainly not in business to provide a fine dining experience for the people of Victoria!
The judgement of "Value" is very subjective. Monetarily the prices on the menu seemed a bit on the high side (Beef stir fry and French onion soup for about $20.00), but if they purchased you a good dining experience they would not be too far out of line. The real issue is that if you value your time, this is not the place to go.
We had lots of time to evaluate the ambience and it was pretty ordinary. A room full of tables and chairs. Clean enough, but not sparkling. It being the Christmas season a few Christmas themed decoration had been hung, but no great effort was expended.
The bottom line question is "Will I go back". The answer is no, no second chances for Tino's. I am a pretty patient person and have experienced poor service before but never to this degree. This is the first time I have ever abandoned a restaurant due to excessive wait time. This is my first review for Dine Here and I regret not discovering this site and reading the previous reviews on Tino's before going there. It might have saved my group from an unfortunate experience.
My wife and I went to Tino's after an appointment in the area. We went in at six, it wasn't very busy and ordered at quarter past. Five minutes later a couple came in and sat across from us and were instantly delivered a platter and saganaki. We later found out that they were friends with the manager. We waited and waited and finally I asked the waitress if our food was coming anytime soon, this was at seven and she told me that the kitchen is short staffed and she'll check. My wife said that she shook here head as she walked back to the kitchen. She came back and said it'll be right out.
Two minutes later a couple came in and she told them that the kitchen is short and it's a little slow. Ten minutes later and no food. We ordered the pasta and a pizza and I couldn't understand how it would take this long when there were hardly any customers. We thought our waitress would have said sorry for the wait but nothing. I finally asked for the manager as the waitress was no help. The manager came out and he was no better, no people skill at this restaurant. I told him how long we have waited and he told me our order went in at 6:30. I wasn't going to argue with him, I was too hungry so we went home for dinner. Thanks Tino, you got class.
