Cafe, bistro type in the middle of a vineyard
Small little cafe in the middle of a vineyard. It's very new and clean and the service is pretty okay.
We stopped by for a quick lunch. As with, seemingly many of the restaurants in the Cowichan Valley, they all use fresh, local ingredients where possible. Here you can sneak in some wine tasting with your lunch and the view out the vineyard on a sunny day is hard to beat.
The shrimp & crab cakes were very big and loaded with these big whole prawns (at least the size of that you find in the dim sum shrimp dumplings) fresh from the local waters. It was paired perfectly with a fresh mango chutney/salad it really hit the spot.
The pork sandwich was also good, maybe not quite as amazing. We found the pork a little bit on the dry and light tasting side, but was otherwise very tasty. That had a salad with greens and sweet baby red beets which I really like. Dressing was light and not overwhelming allowing you to taste the freshness of the vegetables.
Maybe not quite enough to be worth a sole trip from Vancouver, but it is worth a stop over from Victoria or Nanaimo. Excellent!
