30 degrees out on a balmy August morning and our party found this place as it next to our new apartment. Interesting location, and had to wait to sit outside, as I was interested in being steamed cooked inside. I ordered the "Canadian" Benny and it was good. I like how they asked if how I wanted my Egg hard or soft, as some places don't...... cough "floyds" cough. All in all the food was pretty good, nothing amazing though, it is nice to sit outside and the service was friendly and non pretentious which I like. All in All though I rather go to John's Place!
Was there the other week and thought it was fantastic, service was very very polite and i didnt feel rushed to order at all which is pleasent.
I had the Benny and hands down it's one of the best on the island, was fresh and i was always offered a top up to my coffee by my server.
Its a very quirky cafe and i will be returning in the future and will be bringing my friends and family.
Top notch!
My florentine benny was very disappointing. I mean frozen, chopped spinach ? When I pay that much money, I would expect at least fresh spinach and preferably whole leaf, baby, spinach. Perhaps I would have found this acceptable if I were at a cheap breakfast type diner, but the prices here are really quite high for breakfast. I just kept over salting it because it tasted like nothing, as even the sauce was bland. The potatoes were far tastier, but it didn't make up for the tasteless benny made with mediocre ingredients. The service and ambiance were fine, but I won't be back.
I'd been dying to go here for so long, so I made a mission from Langford one Sunday monring. It was VERY busy and we had a 40 minute wait, which was okay as it was a beautiful day and you can sit in the square or go across the street to the funky stores. I was a little surpried because when waiting in the foyer I read a review newspaper clipping on the front door which stated the bennies averaging at $8.99 which was a little deceiving as there wasn't one under $10.99. I do understand though that prices do go up, and I should have known it was too good to be true but why would you have that on your front door? Anyways, the server was very warm and friendly. She did forget a few things, but afterall it was very busy still! The food was fantastic! The portion size was very disapointing especially for the price. Normally I can never finish a plate, and I left not one scrap and my boyfriend left still hungry. Overall though everything was fantastic! Will definatly go again. Although warning to first timers (or I guess anyone really), when going to the washroom be careful when returning to your table because servers go really fast out of the kitchen without looking to see if anyone is coming out of the washroom and I ended up getting eggs and toast spilled all over me!
My husband and I have been to Shine several times and it is for the most part satisfying. The winter is not the best time to go as patrons wait in the too-small foyer and keep the door open. Perhaps more space could be allocated for the waiting area in the winter. I also wish they had real maple syrup. Their blueberry pancakes are very yummy and are the only ones I've found so far since moving from Calgary. The wait-staff is also very eager and rarely do we have mistakes.
We have been to all the breakfast places but allways ended back here.
Shine cafe brings a solid constant experiance every time. The only problem is they are busy through the weekend ( just like every other breakie joints ). At least they take your name and give you a drink while you wait.( ask the fox for a drink).
The colourful dining room is allways clean, all the staff is friendly and helpfull. You can tell they enjoy there job.
All I need to say it that this is one of the better if not best breakie places in victoria.
Give them a go.
This is a superb little place but lack of organization has removed it from our list of favourites. The entrance area is small. People waiting for a table are standing elbow-to-elbow while waiting and clogging up the entrance (and exit). If you want to put your name on the wait list, you must make your way through everyone standing outside to get inside to the counter where the list is. We have be patronizing this place since it opened but in the last six months have given up!
This place is really fun. Great fresh food, especially the bennys! with organic coffee. You can't help but feel cheerful with their sunny decor and friendly staff. Can be quite busy on the weekends but well worth the wait. Two thumbs up!
This little place is a perfect spot to hit for any meal of the day. I have enjoyed numerous items on the menu and every single time I am thoroughly content. Not to mention they have bennies that are on par with floyd's. Which are the best in town, in my opinion. I give unequivocal assurance that you will enjoy your experiance at this beautiful cafe.
What can I say? This is one of the few places in town where one can get an authentic butter-based Benny, and an organic coffee, server by excellent staff, with excellent art, in a bright and happy place. I LOVE Shine Cafe.
We had a problem with our meal recently and they not only picked up the meal, they picked up breakfast. Their menu works, their food combinations work, their staff works. The place really works. AND, if I recall correctly, they have breakfast all day (or, at least, LATE).
