Seafood, old-style casual fine dining
This is an old restaurant, but the decor has kept up well. Unfortunately, maybe the food has not.
We tried the smoked cod. That was excellent, the best smoked cod we've had maybe. But on the flip side, you'd have to be an idiot to really mess up cod. We also had their "Mate's Plate" which is a big seafood medley, and in the description, they said they've been doing this thing forever (30 years?) and have it "nailed". Really? It took me a long time to figure out the dark, dry lumps were actually fried oysters. The first time we've seen someone mess up fresh, wild salmon so badly. The shrimp and scallops were okay, the halibut was also just passable.
The dessert menu was entirely unimaginative, so we gave it a pass.
Sadly, the whole meal, which was just 2 entrees, costs us over $80 after tax & tips. No drinks even! Given that "shelter", just down a few blocks was much better and cheaper, it's hard to give this a good recommendation.
