Authentic Italian food served up in a vibrant, casual atmosphere, featuring exhibition cooking and opera singers.
Came here last night with seven other friends for dinner just before 5pm. When we arrived we were just about the only diners in the entire restaurant. We found a table and sat down to look over the menu.
We all ordered the same thing, more or less, from their "special before 5:30pm" menu for $14.99. The deal includes soup or caesar salad and then an option of either a starter like calamari or you can choose to have dessert instead of the starter and then your main dish. The starter or dessert option is were everything went sideways but more on that later.
The food, in my opinion, was very very good. Usually when you order these "deals" you get very small portions however my caesar salad was a full on portion, it was very tasty, fresh, and just the right amount of dressing. My order of Chicken Parmigiana was equally as good. A big plate, nice and hot with two very big pieces of chicken smothered in an excellent pasta sauce and just the right amount of cheese on the dish.
I was very impressed with my main meal. Not so impressed with my option of the chocolate cake as it was a little on the dry side.
Now to the situation that almost ruined the nice meal. Our waitress , for some reason that we can't understand, delivered the dishes for everyone at different times. Four of us had been served and delivered our main dish and actually finished before the other's had been delivered theirs. We aren't talking five or ten minutes here, we are talking at least thirty minutes or more. So there we are, the people served first actually sitting there with a completed meal of Chicken Parmigiana before our other friends even had their first bite of their main meal, the exact same thing. No real explanation from our waitress who at this point wasn't the most attentive, a request for water took much longer than it really needed to be.
I was going to give service a 1 but the manager saved the evening in the end. We asked to talk to the manager and she came over and explained to us that she didn't really know what the mix up was but was trying to figure out what happened. She was very sympathetic , apologized for the mix up and made everything right by giving us a good discount on the bill.
We understand that stuff happens sometimes and mix ups can occur but really appreciate the way they handled it. This is what customer service is all about and because of the way they handled it we will all definitely be back to Macaroni Grill.
This is the only place to go for pasta. If you don't like it, they remedy situations with a smile and without complaint. They have exceptional service and responsive management, so if you do have a problem, they are quick to address it. The spaghetti with Italian sausage is delicious, the Spaghetti Bolognese is fantastic. I love this place and would eat there every day, if I wouldn't pack on 20 lbs., doing so!
I have enjoyed this restaurant a number of times and still look forward in coming back. While the food may not be strictly Italian it is delicious and reasonably priced.
I like the ambiance as a large open restaurant with a working fireplace.
The service is very good and I did enjoy the occasional operatic
outbursts from a select member of the serving staff.
Delightful for a causual or semi-formal dinner by yourself or with a large group. This place never disappoints.
Took the family here while we were on a short holiday trip on the July 4th weekend. Met up with one of my nephews and his girlfriend.
The food was above average - although, I find they get a little crazy with the sauces they put on their pasta. Overall, it was a good dining experience with good service.
Prices are a tad high and so we'll look for another pasta experience in Victoria the next time we are there visiting.
We went here for a friend's birthday celebration. There was about 20 of us and we pre-ordered the option where they bring you "unlimited quantities" of the 4 course menu you preorder. EVERYTHING we had was extremely poor. The calamari was rubbery and tasteless, the pasta's tasted like TV dinner pasta and the chicken marsala was a rubbery dry piece of chicken covered in a gray gravy like sauce. I'm sure the caesar salad sat under the heat lamp for about an hour before it was served to us because it was extremely soggy and warm! The few times we asked for more of a certain dish the servers (we had 2) acted like it was an imposition, then took quite a while to get it to us. Drinks took an incredibly long time to come to the table as well. When the bill came it was separated by person, however it was on one long bill instead of making it easier by handing out individual ones. All in all, we each paid $35 for the food, plus drinks and an already added gratuity, which brought our total up to about $60-$70 each. A HUGE waste of money!!!!! A friend phoned to complain afterwards and never received a call back from the manager so that goes to show you how much they really care about the customers!!! There are at least 20 people I know now who will NEVER go back and will warn everyone else to save their money and go somewhere better!!
Went to this place about three years ago and remember leaving very satisfied and full. So on this repeat trip to the Victoria area, accompanied by two visitors from The Netherlands we decided to give it another try. We weren't disappointed. The food was great and plentyful (and Italian!!not some cheap wannabe) Service was good and very friendly. My guests were smarter then me, they stuck tot he smaller dishes. I had the spaghetti and meatballs for which I should have brought two more guests. Wine selection is good and desert tray enough to commit several of the seven deadly sins. We went to this place twice in a row. Highly recommended.
Every time we arrive in Victoria, we try to have one of our first meals here. There's always something on the menu for each of us. The atmosphere is relaxed and pleasant. The service is mostly good although it can degrade a bit at the height of the lunch or dinner period.
This latest visit, dinner, we ordered 2 Mama's Trios for sharing between 3 of us and there was plenty of food to go around. The meat lasagna was meaty, the chicken parmesan was tender and the canneloni was delicate. I looked around the other tables and everyone was being served big heaping plates of food....not a place to come if you're on a diet. oh...did I mention the desserts? no...because none of us had room after our meals...maybe next time; so we also said last time....
Very sad experince. Our table was never set we were missing most all of our table settings. They came and gave us a fork and knife and napkin and served us on a dirty table cloth. Food was very late coming. We waited a hour before it arrived and when it did, it arrived in peices. Food was just ok in taste not worth the wait. My husband and I and our 3 children where there and they added a sevice charge/tip of $4.05 per person in the bill . On top of all this when I arrived home and checked my bill they had overcharged me.
We like the Macaroni Grill for lunches. It has a good lunch menu and our favourites are the Chicken Marcella and Penne Rustica. A typical meal starts with fresh bread and Italian butter (olive oil and basalmic vinegar). Usually just the one dish enough but sometimes appies are very good. They have a great desert tray, especially the chocolate. Service is consitently good although at lunches it can be a bit rushed. Definately a place to go back to.
The atmosphere was very nice and relaxing.
We were served bread with an oil/balsamic vinegar.
We had seafood linguini, it was wonderful, full of different flavors. None of the flavors were overpowering. For dessert we had Italian chocolate cake with crushed walnuts, crushed raspberries and I asked for extra whip cream. It was absolutly wonderful. Oh, and our server...(Dani) was very professional, and did a wonderful job. Thank you.
I dine out often in Victoria, but I will NEVER go back to Romano's Macaroni Grill
The good things about the Macaroni Grill:
-You don't have to pay/look for parking
-The restaurant has nice decor and a fire place which creates a nice ambience
The bad things about the Macaroni Grill
-By FAR the WORST meal I have had in Victoria
The Chicken Parmesan tasted like a thin macdonalds chicken mcnugget (burnt black on the sides), the noodles and sauce could have been the cheapest spaghetti and tomato sauce from a can left over night to congeal
The difference between leaving out some pasta sauce overnight, putting it on some spaghetti, with a topping of chicken mcnuggets and the chicken parmesan at Macaroni grill ... the cheap pasta costs about $5 per meal (and tastes better) and the Chicken parmesan was around $16.
The spaghetti with meatballs: the meatballs had the texture of spam or spork and the sad fact that it was so gross that a person who comes away from most restaurants still hungry after finishing their meal didn't even get 3/4 of the way through before they stopped. At $16.99 horrible value for money
-The service was mediocre...had to practically do a dance to get the attention of the waitress to fill the empty water glasses (and the restaurant was by no means busy)
I don't know if we somehow managed to order the two most horrible things on the menu, but for approx $17 per entree the quality and taste of the food was unacceptable.
I've been here twice and I don't mind it. The food took a while to arrive though. We ordered an appetizer with calamari in it. It was like chewing on rubber. My date got the lobster ravioli and it was very good. The lobster meat was very sweet. The waitress was friendly and helpful. This place is alright once in a while.
We went to a retirement due here in January and there were 45 of us. The food was slow to get to us and never offered to continue if we wanted more. Many of the people felt that you only got two bowls of the item to cover the table of 15 to 20 of us and that was it, the portion that came to the table was very small. The food was ALWAYS cold and lacked flavour. There was only 2 servers for the entire 45 of us which means that those girls were running. I have been to other dues at this Macaroni Grill with more than 45 people and it was better. I would suggest that they pay more attention to the people and what they want to drink & give slightly larger portions of the food & offer more if desired and not make it the people having to ask for more.
Yuk! The first time we ate here, we were extremely unimpressed. I could make better pasta at home. We tried it a second time, since I always like to give an establishment time to work the kinks out. Believe it or not...it was even worse. Over-cooked pasta, flavourless sauces, un-imaginative italian dishes. Just "blah" all around. The third time, we were forced into eating here due to a friends birthday celebration. All 11 of us were extremely unhappy with our food. The Ceasar salad tastes like wilted, watery lettuce with miracle whip and garlic salt. Horrid. Those that had pasta still found it over-cooked. The service is fine and the ambiance is so-so...but I will never waste my time or money again. If you want REAL Italian food with flavour and ambiance, try Il Terrazzo instead.
