Raymond's offers a Chinese buffet and hotpot.
They will rip you off, they full they charged us full adult price for a 2yo and a 6yo we asked them about it then they dropped the price by $10. A bunch of thieves they refused to even give us a receipt. Do not go there unless you want to get ripped off. 4 adults and 2 obviously small children shouldn't have been over $120 then $110. Our family will never return.
I think they change the owner and chef now. Although the price got higher but the food got so much better. The buffet starts to attract people again. Not like before when they only have ginger beef those sorts of Cantonese food, the new chef seems from Northern China, brings much more new dilicious dishes to the island. I love the taste of those ones. New Raymond really suprised me. Now everytime I want to have a good buffet, I know where to go.
From the tasteless Won-Ton through the tepid limp greasy unidentifiable objects at the other end this "buffet" is unbelievably poor!
The Western buffet is even worse except that the offerings can be identified as the the remains from lunch barely re-warmed.
The still full plates being removed from tables should be a tip off to the kitchen that the customers (victims?) are not happy.
The only saving grace was filling up on the self-serve ice cream.
How often have you been to a restaurant lately and *not* been asked "how was everything?".
Had dinner here last weekend at their Cloverdale and Blanshard (by Futureshop) location and really enjoyed their hot pot. Other members of my group had the buffet and that also was very good. They have a wide variety of selection and the food is fresh, not too greasy, and tastes excellent. Good value here with prices that are reasonable for the times when you just want to eat a lot for not much money!
This used to be a great place to eat but something has changed since the last time I was in. Now the food is Just OK and tastes more like cheap food from a mall food court than a good restaurant. There used to be lots of great veggie dishes to choose from but now it's mostly meat and deep fried food with just a few veggie options. The service was very bad, my friend had to go find a waitress to ask for a cup of coffee and then when 10 minutes later it still hadn't arrived he had to find her again to get it. Every time they took the dirty plates they also took our napkins and cutlery even tho we left them off the plates. Then they charged us adult price for my 10 year old daughter where everywhere else we go 12 is adult. I even requested her to be priced as a youth and they refused. In the end I told them we wouldn't be back and left no tip. I don't know if it's under new management or what but I'm not going to be returning ever. The cake they had for dessert was good, but we didn't go there for cake.
One of my friends suggested this restaurant as I love chinese food, let alone an all you can eat chinese buffet!
There were a lot of items on the buffet, and a lot of them tastes good. I didn't try all but did try a lot of them. The squid with salt/peppers was AMAZING. Another thing that is worth mentioning about is that they also do chinese style hotpot. When I was there, a few tables had the hotpot in the middle and it sure did looks good.
The service was pretty good, however sometimes when I wanted a refill, I would have to get someone rather than going up myself to refill.
As for value, all you can eat for 10-15 bucks, what more can you ask for? Music was good as well.
A side note, the Raymond's I went to was the one on Cloverdale. The other one on Admirals apparently closed.
Had dinner here last night and really enjoyed the food. We had all you can eat hot pot which was fresh, flavourful and inexpensive. The selection of hot pot items was very large. It ranged from beef, lamb, seafood to veggies like shitake mushrooms, chinese cabbage, spinach, to different chinese dumplings and tofu. They also give you your choice of soup base if you prefer mild, medium or hot spice. We also had an appetizer of spicy fried tofu which was also excellent.
The wait staff was suprisingly very attentive and friendly. They helped us select the different dishes we ordered and told us what everything was. Overall this was a very good experience and would go back again. I saw that they had a regular chinese buffet dinner which also looked to have good selection.
