Stopped here on a Friday to catch the game a bite to eat on the way in to Victoria. Service was a bit slow as it was quite busy. The nachos were just OK, average quality toppings on average chips. Tried their steak pie, too much goopy gravy over the pie and the inside was a bit too salty. Prices were a bit on the high side for what I got. Wouldn't go back.
My lunching friend and I were feeling like something pub-like today as it was rainy and overcast and fall was definitely in the air, so we decided not to stray too far from home and avoid downtown, so tried The Prairie Inn. Upon entering the pub around 11am, the bar area was already filled with men drinking beer...most were older and it was kind of a sad thing to see so early in the day, so we decided to sit in the restaurant section instead. They have quite an extensive menu filled with your typical pub fare. After much pondering on the menu, I decided to go with a standard BLT and substitute onion rings for the fries. My friend had the turkey dip and fries and we both sipped our coffees and chatted while we waiting. The service was good, our server came around many times asking if we'd like refills on our coffee's and before long our orders were out. Let me tell you, the portions here are HUGE! Now, I'm not embarassed to say, I have a big mouth, but I couldn't even get it around my BLT, so I removed most of the "T" as it wasn't the best looking tomato I've seen, under-ripe and dry. And usually you get a half dozen onion rings when they're a side, but there were lots of them there and I was only able to eat half the sandwich and about half the rings. My friend enjoyed the turkey dip and we both were shocked to see the turkey alone piled about 2 inches thick on the hoagie roll, with the addition of stuffing and cranberry sauce, she had to eat her way around and into it. We left feeling stuffed to the max and were surprised that for all that food, the bill was less than what we usually will pay for to have breakfast! I wouldn't say this would be a favourite of mine, but the value is good and I will probably return sometime. Oh and on Thursday nights, they have cheese burgers for $2.99!
My husband and I drive from Victoria to the Prairie Inn whenever we have a hankering for a (gigantic) turkey club. We share one as they are just too huge to eat by oneself. These sandwichs are so yummy and have cranberry sauce. Our bill is under $30 with the sandwich and drinks so we're big fans!
