Paradiso Di Stelle serves classic Italian with one of the best patios in town. Serving classic panini and pastas, it is an ideal place for people watching. Try the authentic gelato made on site or have a cup of Illy coffee.
I really really want to like this place more than I do. However, as actions speak louder than words and I have been there 3 times recently this is a nice Italian style Ristorante for (at least in my case) a reasonable pasta meal in the very lovely setting of Bastion Square. It's been too cool to eat outside this spring, but the outdoor seating looks very nice with views over the inner harbour and the goings on of Bastion Square. Inside it's all small tables close but not too cramped.
The girls serving behind the walk up and order counter don't seem terribly knowledgable about what they are selling. I guess I am partial to table service as it knocks it up a couple of notches in the take care of me index that I enjoy in restaurants. Maybe that's it - the ambiance and food are, quite honestly, very nice. No complaints - but the idea of ordering my food at a counter is just so commissary like. Why not have the customer sit down, relax and order from a menu instead of straining (in my case) to see what written on the overhead order board - just like McDonalds. Ugh.
So all in all - it's a very nice place to eat with a good range of reasonable (but not cheap) Italian foods and beverages. It lacks the charachter and crowds of places such as Pags but with some clever marketing could be like them - but that would spoil it.
I like it - and I'll be back to try different meals. Next week.....and I'll have to take longer to study the menu.
I love the gelato but could not believe that you don't recycle the plastic cups you serve it in! I can't imagine how many go into the garbage through the summer...what waste & neglect for the environment. I won't be going back until a change is made to your recycling policy! Thanks.
I haven't been that many times to this little establishment, but I must say the gelato is good, the coffee is great (Illy) and the couple of times I've been for lunch, I've had the pasta specials and they've always been delicious. Fresh, hot and homemade tasting. My only beef is the stairs for getting in and out, doesn't make for an accessible trip, even tho the staff is helpful and that the only way for a local to enjoy this little gem is to immerse yourself right in tourist central. Not usually my idea of a good time, but it's sometimes worth it for here.
We've been to Paradiso many, many times over the eight years that we lived in Victoria. Their espresso based drinks are made with Illy coffee and are delicious. Italo trains his staff so that whomever makes the espresso drink - it is delicious every time.
In the summer or winter, if you are in Victoria, get a latte or a delicious panini or fresh made pasta or salad special and sit in their eclectic cafe and enjoy.....mmmmm.....try their chocolate cookies or fresh made gelato for dessert.
bye for now
Definetly a great place and the coffee is outstanding.
I always get great service and consistent coffee, even in very busy times. Do not get discouraged by the line ups since usually are very fast and handled profesionally.
Usually the coffee here is good, and the panini reasonable. However, I made the error of ordering a grande chai, and it was terrible-tasted like cinnamon milk with cardamon, and no tea at all. I complained, and the owner was seriously hostile, complaining that I was rude, and therefore he would do nothing. As a middle aged woman, I think I wasn't rude at all, and actually smiled and suggested that the mixture was a bit weak. The server, I think the owner, was so nasty that he even seemed to shock the woman on barrista duty.t, So, avoid this place-despite the great view, if something goes wrong and you get snarly, the experience is so unpleasant as to negate what works. There are lots better, including one around the cornor, to choose.
