Quite good place with up and down service

I have been a few times and the food has always been quite good with relatively big portions so I find it to be a decent value for the price. The first time the service was phenomenal and the waitress really went out of her way to please us, several other staff members smiled and chatted as we were paying and getting ready to leave. The second time I went, food was as decent as the first time but we had to wait quite a while to get served. the waitress this time was friendly but made several comments about getting too drunk the night before and joked around how she was a little off today. One meal was forgotten and arrived well after the others however the manager came out herself to apologize and we were offered a free dessert to make up for our inconvenience. We felt it was great that they took note of their error and compensated us and we left happy - plus the dessert was quite good!! The last time I went, food as good as ever and service just OK. Nothing was forgotten, she was friendly and helped us choose meals but she didn't come back and check on us and our plates took a while to be cleared, and the restaurant was not very busy at all. So, I would for sure go back if I was in the area and I would recommend it for the wide variety of good food that they offer, but don't go if you're in a hurry because it seems to follow the slower pace of life that occurs in Oak Bay!

This was obout our seventh visit, having had difficulties finding it at first, (Tucked away by Fairways Market, in Oak Bay), this little place was recommended by friends and we asre glad they did.

The interior is very warm and cosy, they feature quite a large menu, with selections for everyones taste, if you cant find it, you are very fussy. We have always attempted to try somthing different at each visit, sometimes, picking from each others plate, the portions are medium to large and good value for money. A great selection of appy's, good old Brit food, normal Canadian grub, you'll find vegie items, plus lots of around the world stuff too and offer a fair selection of great sea food, can highly recommend the drunken prawns, Digby scallops and the Halibut bake.

The servers usualy advise that "Everything is cooked from scratch" so depending what you order, it make take a few minutes longer, but the wait is worth it, (I have waited in line longer in McDonalds), we have found that the waitrsses are friendly and cheerful, and the price is right, (Excuse the Pun).

They offer a smaller selection of wines, but for the money, the right price for value, I know that they carry a fair selection of draft and bottled beers, but neither my wife and I drink that stuff.

So, my thoughts are, If you hav'nt tried them yet, it would be worth the little drive into Oak Bay, we think you'll love the place.

PS, My wife and I and 5 friends went there for New Years Eve, although they don't stay open until midnight, the special New Years Menu was great and so were the prices.

never going back

Never going back. Went for lunch after attending the oak bay classic car show, ordered the lunch special breaded oysters and fries. When it arrived there were two small oysters and a few fries and a teaspoon of coleslaw, plate swimming with grease. Tried to get the staffs attention, but no luck, too hungry too wait ate it anyway. After the waitress came with the bill, 13.99 on the tab for this underwhelming lunch. Told the waitress I had never left there hungry before and that the two oysters was not good for such a price, no response except that the kitchen was busy. Paid at the front and tried to get some one to care. The hostess just kept repeating "sorry to hear that". Told her we were never coming back, no response.

Well I tried to get some response from this restaurant, but they don't care. So, never going back.

Family Friendly????

I don't know of ANY "family friendly" restaurant that doesn't have high chairs. I was very disappointed and felt like having my baby with me was a big inconvieniance to the staff.

That being said, the food was pretty good, and the service was decent. The ambiance inside was great.

We had a rather large party and wanted to make a reservation, but the woman I spoke to on the phone was a bit rude. We ended up not making the reservation but still were seated right away. My son had to sit on my lap due to the lack of highchairs. He is a pretty squirmy little guy, so this made my meal a little less pleasant, but I think everybody else enjoyed theirs.
