Just had the most mediocre meal I have ever had. The restaurant must have one of the best locations in Victoria, right on the harbour, but what you experience as a diner lets it down unfortunately. Firstly, why do restaurants believe that children want to eat bland over-cooked food, and why would you want to sit next to washrooms when the restaurant is practically empty - and why would you serve a marguerita the color of washing up liquid (luminous green!) and tasting of a mix of salt and lime cordial - yuk! The food was bland in taste and presentation, and so overpriced. Had to try it, but never again. Oh, maybe hiring servers who can use more than one adjective might help - my meal was not 'awesome'!
...by the staff. Was made to wait 10 minutes on a Tuesday night when most tables were empty. Must be because I was alone. Had a discount bellini - very good. Waited to order quite a while. Two tables of 3 across from me got their food 10 minutes before I did even though I ordered first. Waitress said she'd be "right back with water" she never was. When my food was delivered it was by some kitchen lackey and not the waitress. No one asked if I would like another drink. So, I did not order one. I sat infront of an empty plate for over 10 mmintues before the waitress returned and exclailmed "WOW - I've NEVER seen anyone finish that whole thing" She dropped my bill off and added "I was sure you wouldn't finish, no one does, so I thought you wouldn't want dessert, but maybe you do". i had not eaten since a small bowl of cereal at 6 am - it was 8 pm - she might have just as well rang a bell and called me a hog. The food was good, but I left very embarrassed. What is wrong with people?
Living in Victoria for a long time and writing a review of Milestone's feels like commenting on going to the Museum. Seems like this place is a fixture of the city.
Milesone's hasnt changed much over the years and for good reason. Great view, reliable service, and a solid menu with some really standout dishes. The quality control is what makes Mileston's great. You know what you're going to get every time and it rarely disappoints. I give them top marks for service as I've never had a bad service there.
Last time I had ravioli with a marinara sauce and it was just fantastic. Fresh pasta and italian sausage filling, with parmesan.
I really dont want to know how many calories are in Milstone meals, especially the ones marked as "favourites," since they are so rich and tasty. Then again, I usually go there for special occasions like birthdays. Mention that and they'll even bring you a free dessert cake!
BTW: always ask for a window seat.
OVERALL: BEST TOURIST TRAP ON THE INNER HARBOUR
Went to Milestones again this past Friday night as the previous Friday a group of ten of us enjoyed a fantastic meal here.
First Friday we were seated promptly at a nice table by the window.
Our server quickly took our drink orders and then came back awhile later for our food order. It was the $20.00 dine out deal and I must say I was very impressed.
My meal started with a very tasty corn/potato chowder. My only complaint is that the chowder was luke warm and really needed to be warmed further. It was tasty.
Following the chowder I enjoyed a very tasty steak. I thought for the price it would be a small serving but no way. A big piece of meat perfectly cooked along with a heaping amount of garlic mashed potatoes and some very nicely sauteed veggies like red pepper.
Everyone at our table seemed to enjoy their respective meals and there were no screw up's in the kitchen, everyone got what they ordered in good time. There were absolutely no complaints.
For dessert I had the butterscotch pot de creme. Again a nice serving and tasty.
What a deal. This huge meal with a beer for $32.00 total.
I was so impressed that this past Friday I brought my sister here visiting from Vancouver. Again I would not be disappointed.
Even though the restaurant was packed our table was ready shortly after entering the restaurant. Our server was prompt and efficient.
I order the exact same thing however this time they were out of the steak, lamb was served instead. What a nice surprise. Two huge perfectly cooked pieces of delicious lamb accompanied by some roast potatoes and sauteed spinach and bok choy. Fantastic meal at a fantastic price.
As far as I'm concerned this Milestone's is doing everything right!
I went there twice over the last week and the level of service was quite standard. I would have prefered sitting a little more outside of the way of passing people but the seats are nice and the decorations are fine. There seems to be a lot of staff working for pretty general service. I noted that some of the hostesses were quite slow at clearing and setting tables after guests had left. They sat at the table and chatted while setting it rather slowly. I hope there wasn't a line up at the door... But in general the food was fine (a little spicy but good and depending on what I got it was ok) I had a really friendly server the first time I went and a nervous one the second time who seemed to be doing everything by the book. It's ok if you can't think of anything place more interesting or suited to your tastes.
