Enjoy the gourmet tastes of the West Coast in a spectacular waterfront setting at the Marina Restaurant.
I had dinner here with my husband, parents and parents-in-law on new year's eve 09. Dinner was superb as was the service. Despite it being nye and very busy we were not at all rushed. As it is a seafood restaurant we were all rather hoping for more seafood options on the set menu but what we did choose was delicious. Will definitely go back to try their 3 course, $30 meal and the brunch.
We attended the Sunday buffet, which has become somewhat of a Victoria institution. Food was better and more varied that I last resemember and the place was humming the day we dined. Unfortunately, a young waiter with immature skills made our stay less than perfect. When we requested additional items for our table; a re-fill, sugar, cream; etc, he always smiled and acknowledged our request but consistently failed to deliver. When we finally pinned him down and said we would all like some apple juice, he arrived with one apple juice. A nice guy but smile alone does not cut it. Fighting for what we needed made things laughable rather than enjoyable.
This restaurant has been around a few years and is a nice place to have lunch. The service is very professional and the wine list is fairly extensive. The food, while not unusual, is competent and presented with some flare. The view of the Marina and bayfront is superb and the staff is very welcoming.
This restaurant was also on a recommended list from "locals". We arrived about 5:30 on a Thursday without reservations but they were able to seat us. We didn't get a table by the window but we were close and had a good view of the harbour and the boats moving in and out. We chose the three course menu from the Dinner Series offered Sunday to Thursday for $30.00. This was great value. We enjoyed the Brie Cheese Fritter and Chicken Liver Pate to start. This was followed by the Seafood Fricasee and the Smoked Braised Pork Shoulder. Both were delicious. Dessert was the Rhubarb Streusal Tart. With glasses of the recommended wines, tea, coffee and the views, this was another special evening. The service was frendly and efficient. Things slowed a bit as the restaurant filled up and reservations would be a good idea especially if you plan on eating later in the evening (6 - 7 pm). We left about 8 pm and enjoyed sitting in the park watching the shipping activities in the Strait of Juan De Fuca until the mosquitoes arrived. The restaurant is on our list for a future return visit (perhaps for brunch).
This is probably one of the best restaurants I have ever eaten at. The entire staff is exceptionally friendly - which is quite rare these days at other restaurants. We had the most delightful meal, tasty fresh ingredients cooked perfectly! All the desserts are to die for as well! It is a tad pricy but the food is well worth it. The view is spectacular! Great place to go if you're not downtown and want a really really good meal!!!!
This establishment just doesn't disappoint! With fresh food on the Buffet carefully prepared, a vast selection of Seafoods, Cheeses, Fruits, two selections of Eggs Benny, SUSHI! and many many other chafing dishes of lovely hot flavourful items that usually change Sunday to Sunday it seems, the list could go on.
The carving station is well done and offers usually Roast Beef, Ham or Leg or Lamb or both. As well as an omelette station with attentive staff.
Desserts are prepared in house and it shows. Delightful start to finish and the staff are always gracious and inviting. Why go anywhere else for an amazing Sunday Brunch....Oh and I forgot to mention the view.
Worth the expense for a few hours of piquing your senses! Thanks to all the great people that make this place a destination!
I guess that the Marina relies on it's views and status, because certainly the food and service provided no reason for a return visit.
Our family dinner, which was meant to be a special occasion for the parent's anniversary, left us unsure if we should leave a tip.
The fresh herbed sourdough bread started us out with high expectations. Our mediocre appetizers took very long to arrive, and the waitress apologized and said that our entrees would not take as long.
We waited equally as long for our dinner entrees. I had a cod entree. The presentation was very poor, with a large pile of squishy cod skin hiding underneath a very poor attempt at carmelized onions. The potato croquette was very fishy tasting, and was greasy in texture. So, the entree consisted of onions, cod, cod skin, and the potato.
This entree was not pleasurable in taste, tactile sensation, or aroma.
Another member in the party had lamb, which was more successful. Two in our party had seafood combination dishes, which were very dissapointing. The dishes had very little seafood on a large bed of grain or rice.
Once we had finished, our unclean plates were left in front of us for a very long time, the waitress ignoring us until the water boy caught her attention and asked if he should clear the table.
Desserts took an equally long time to arrive, and were definitely the most appetizing part of the whole experience.
For the prices of the meals, I would expect a much higher level of service. There was great display of pomp, without any reason to brag.
I would recommend this restaurant if you would like to have dessert and a drink, and have some time to spare.
I will however, never return to the "Marina." Ouch! Considering the bill for 5 came to nearly $200, without much drinking or add-ons.
If your maybe looking for a sushi appitizer before an expensive dinner, then this would be it. The sushi is good quality and is served beautifully, but the menu is lacking. Don't go looking for your favorite sushi dish, or anything of the "cooked" sushi for those non-raw fish eaters. I recommend just sitting at the Round Bar and enjoy the view. Oh and don't forget your Visa.
