Lucy's is right across from the Belfry Theater in Fernwood Square, no bigger than some people's patios. It is small, but good things come in small packages. The welcome was warm and friendly. The server was exceptional. A good choice of entrees and the dessert menu was wicked! The mussels came in a ceramic bowl with a lid and just vanished! So good. The braised beef came with garlic mashed potatoes and a couple of rings of squash. It vanished too! Each table has a black and a white grease pencil in a shot glass on it, but that's all I'm going to say about that! You'll have to go and see for yourself. (But the owner, who was there in person, converts this cute idea into fund raising for the Neighbourhood Resource Group in Fernwood.) The prices were about 10% higher than I would have expected and the portion sizes about 10% less than I would have liked. The chef at Lucy's puts on a fabulous meal. Great art on the walls, a lot of creative ideas as well, such as the farm pump style spout on the bathroom sink and the wooden clothespeg holding the bill.
We have been to Lucy's In The Square twice for brunch. Lucy's is a small restaurant in the Fernwood area which is owned and operated by chef Jeff Keenliside and his wife Micki. It is a delightful addition to the food scene in Victoria. They do not take reservations so if you don't want to wait, get there early. The eggs benny are first class as well as waffles and other items you would expect to find on a brunch menu. Service is great. We are looking forward to trying Lucy's for dinner.
