What can I say about Lady Marmalade? The food is extremely good, fresh and made to order. It's got a unique flare and I've never been disappointed yet! The atmosphere, well, it leaves a little something to be desired, there was a pen drawing of a penis in a frame above my table one day and while it was pretty accurate, not something I wanted to look at over coffee and eggs, but don't let that turn you away from this scrumptous place. It has one of the best eggs benedict's in town and by far, the best french toast I've ever had. They make their french toast in a bread pudding style, layered and baked and the type varies every day. Just strolling by will leave you salivating for apple cinnamon, strawberry cream cheese, mango raspberry...mmm...it truly is delicious and a huge portion, so be prepared to carry a doggy bag! Another guilty pleasure is their breakfast poutine, pan fries slathered in hollandaise sauce and sharp cheddar! Did you hear that? It's the sound of my left ventricle slamming shut, but it is a good treat and would be fabulous to share with a friend.
A trip to this restaurant will will be a memorable experience. The staff is always very very friendly and well experienced. The food is absolutely divine and the ambiance is so funky and cute its a pleasure to eat here.
The food is great, I love what it adds to the downtown core and I love the local artwork.
I have gone in a few times with a larger group and there is always this feeling like we are unwanted. I know you readers have felt this before. The feeling that you are the biggest inconvenience to the server, a feeling like you are unwanted. I spent years in the industry myself, from serving to management. So I know what it feels like to get snowed under and be run off your feet and still try and give great service. It isn't fun. But my experiences here were worse then that. It was like the server personally did not like us or as if she had a personal vendetta against us. My experience in the industry has made me a watcher when I go out to dine. My girlfriend hates it because I always seem distracted. But I could see when the server would talk about us to her work mates. I could also pick out the disdain in her voice when my friend brought up her dietary concerns, and the anger the server had when her meal was still prepared incorrectly. I have often felt condescended to.
In this city our local eateries must ensure they not only feed the tourist, but also hold onto their local regulars in order to stay afloat.
I will go back to Lady Marmalade, and I have had good experiences, just so rarely with the service. There is one great server there, I just wish he served my group every time.
