I've enjoyed their Pad Thai for years, though have started ordering the Red Curry more and more, like I did tonight. Very tasty! I've compared their Pad Thai to a number of other Thai restaurants in town and haven't found another that I find as good. When I phone in an order, it's ready in the 10 min it takes me to walk there. The staff are nice enough and seem to recognize me as someone who comes by now and then. I've treated friends and family for pick up from K&T and had great feedback. Definitely my favourite Thai in Victoria!
I have been to this food court in the cook street village several times, but never tried the thai place before tonight. The ethiopian place there - Messob - is great, but I would NOT recommend the thai food.
I ordered a chicken pad thai and heard the cook in the background grumbling about having to make the chicken. I was told my order would be ready in 15 minutes. When I got home with the takeout, I discovered the cook had decided not to make the chicken and add it to my order (I was the only customer, so I didn't get the wrong order.)
If they had told me upfront they couldn't be bothered to cook any more chicken it would have been fine. However, to charge me for it and then decide not to cook it (and not tell me or provide a refund) isn't right. And it wasn't that great either.
Heard so much good reports from the locals down in Cook Street village so we decided to pay them a visit. We did not expect the restaurant to be in a food court. But wow what a funky little place. The whole place was absolutely jumping being a friday evening. The staff behind the counter seem to know everyone there were lots of freindly bantering with the customers. Anyway there were four of us,I volunteered to do the ordering because I travelled to thailand many times. So I decided to order 4 different dishes so that we can share the taste and the way the thais eat. We had one phad thai classic it came as a generous portion of noodles with prawns, chicken and tofu. A basil chicken which has a decent amount of chicken and veg with a side of rice.A green veggie curry which was an enormous portion of veg in the curry and that comes with rice. And lastly an order of satay with side rice. It's so unsual for an asian restaurant not to charge extra for rice. The meal was awesome very tasty and as authentic as you can get outside of thailand, and as a bonus the meal is freshly cooked in front of you. The cost for the 4 of us was 42 bucks tax included. You can pay cash, debit or credit card. Great deal plenty of food. We will be back.
This place has been growing in popularity in the past year. Having sampled Thai cuisine at most of the Thai restaurants in the city, the food here especially for the price is amazing. Two people can have a full and satisfying meal for under $20!! Rice is included with the curries instead of costing extra and the Phad Thai is sweet, sour and spicy. Great food, best takeaway in the city by far.
In my opinion, the only reason this restaurant is still open is because it is located in trendy Cook St Village. The food tastes decent but it's nothing special, and the service is poor. The portions here are seriously small so I'm giving it a 1 for value. Last time I went there I left feeling robbed after getting what amounted to "half order" of Pad Thai for $10.50. I will definitely not be back. There's simply no point going here when you can get twice the food for the same price at Noodle Box. In fact, every other Thai place I've tried in Victoria has been a better deal than King and Thai.
There are good Thai restaurants in Victoria but this is not one of them. The best thing about the food is that it is made fresh and served piping hot. Sadly it is not great value for the money ($10.50 for a curry and rice, $8.50 for 4 thin satay...), served on paper plates that quickly get soft and our Panang and Green Chicken curries were very light on chicken.
I also asked for a glass of tap water only to be informed that the only had bottles of water for sale. This is bad for the earth and bad for business.
Bottom Line - you can find much better Thai not far up the street,
The food here was very unremarkable. I would say the best thing about our dining experience was the rice. It took them about a half of an hour to produce two dishes-the pad thai tasted like spicy ketchup and cost $10 and the sweet basil and chicken with vegetables on rice sounds nice but was just a whole lot of green peppers and bamboo shoots with no chicken and a very bland chinese style sauce. Definitely not the best take out in Victoria. Sheesh...
