I kind of like this place. Anywhere that offers coupons that cut the cost of going out catches my attention. This place has solid food and the service was OK while we were there. The decor and customers looked like they were out of the 1950's or 60's, but I liked it and would like to go again.
Parking was a bit tight on the medium sized lot and many of the streets thereabouts say residents only.
The prices were reasonable and portions of a decent size.
After numerous desperate attempts at finding a decent takeout order for my dear Uncle, and on a Sunday night, I finally thought of the James Bay Inn. I remember this place from my teenage drinking days, and boy, it definitely has changed.
The restaurant may be a little older, but the fixtures were updated, and the lighting bright enough to see, yet soft enough to add mood. I was struck by the peaceful atmosphere, despite the fullness of the place.
The food was great, but what I really found outstanding was the service. I really liked their choices in staff, and noted a common thread between the servers. Our takeout order took time away from a very busy staff, yet we were promptly acknowledged, and kindly addressed, and each one of them seemed truly warm and kind.
We went back this evening with my nearly impossible mother, and again, the service was outstanding. The food was good enough that my other half ordered the same thing, twice, and I loved my jambalaya so much that I ate the leftovers, the minute I returned home.
My mother received her liver and onions "her way" without any attitude or flinching from the server. Rather, we received a very sincere smile, and a happy face. How refreshing it was to receive such wonderful service! It was outstanding! I regret not remembering our server's name (although she had on noisy heels!), but I noted that the other girls seemed excellent as well, so someone is doing a very fine job of managing this place.
If I needed somewhere to take my family for a dinner out, with really good food, and reasonable prices ranging from $10.50 up for dinner, I would definitely take them there. This place gave us two great experiences, and came as a total surprise.
