Haultain Fish & Chips is a friendly neighbourhood diner that serves up classic battered fish and chips, as well as a good selection of oysters, prawns, calamari, and deep fried perogies.
This location was recommended when I asked about finding some good fish and chips. After a second trip (they were in Disneyland until May 19) I am able to confirm that the fish, chips and slaw are indeed good. I took mine, wrapped in newspaper, home to enjoy. Next time I will eat in as things had cooled a bit by the time I got to eat them. The food was good, especially the fish. Service was friendly and many in the restaurant appeared to be regular customers. Posting a menu outside may be helpful. There are places to wait for your order outside and they will call you. Inside is quite small. I expect this is a very busy place later in the week. You can phone your order in ahead of time. I'll return.
the staff at Haultain Fish & chip is outstanding. They make everyone feel like their apart of the family. The food is awesome it makes you feel proud that you have such a wonderful hidden treasure in Victoria. The value of the meal is good and you get plenty of food for what you pay. I would suggest this restraunt to any one who wants the best. They are the best so if you want something then this fish and chip is to die for keep up the great work and keep up the great consistency of their food
I enjoy a good fish and chippery and I was in teh neighbourhood or Haultain fish and chips and decided to give it a shot after hearing so much about it. I swear remembering that they served hand-cut fries, but that's clearly not the case anymore. The food was subpar and the only decent thing on my plate was the coleslaw.
I can't say I've seen anywhere else give out such a small serving of tartar sauce. If the staff switched jobs to somewehre else, I'd follow them as they were so nice, but I felt bad that the food wasn't up to the same level they are.
What a disappointment! We went there based on reviews on this site. It was too much overrated. In fact, I would not waste any money again on this neighbourhood store. I do not know how people would give more than 2 stars for this store. What a waste of money and waste of time. Most of the fish are over cooked & the fish were not fresh. The fish was dull & taste like a deck of kleenex. The store is not comfortable and the price is too much for what they offer. I can only give out 11/2 stars for the friendly services.
Sit down.
Order fish and chips, with a can of coke, from the nice girls who serve you.
Add salt and vinegar to the perfectly cooked fish in non-heavy non-grease saturated batter and the stout home cut chips.
Eat. Maybe burp (Quietly).
Pay and compliment on the service.
Walk out extremely satisfied.
If life was so simple and tasted so good, I'd wake up before 2pm every day.
I'd heard great things about Haultain F&C, but we found it just okay. If you're not in the know, it's hard to figure out where to place your order and where to pick it up, and while the service is fine for regulars it's a bit off-putting for a novice! The fish was fine, but a little hit underseasoned for our tastes, and the fries were a bit soft. The tartar sauce could use more tang. For the price, I expected better.
This little hole in the wall epitomizes the quintessential greasy spoon, in the best possible way. Their fish and chips are always reliably delicious and they have the nicest staff. It doesn't matter how busy they are, the staff are always in a good mood, and never mind special requests. I don't eat deep-fried food much these days, but when I do break down, this is one of the two fish and chip shops in town, at which I eat.
Great food. Real. Simple. Delicious. Best Fish and Chips in town. Honest, friendly service. No matter how good of a cook one is... you sure can't make this stuff at home- you have to go out to Haultain! Enjoy!
We love this place and come here every chance we get. It's abit hard to find - it's located in a residentail area. The English style fish is not too greasy - just right. And the chips are great. They have a very simple menu and service is prompt and very friendly. We love it!
