Glo is a ultrahip, waterfront, and relaxing pub and restaurant with a stunnng menu and over-the-top modern style.
OK, the former tenant of this property gave the location a bad reputation (South Bay pub), but this new eatery has installed the most brilliant chef in the city. It has become the sigular more frequented restaurant for us in Victoria. The food is reliably as good or better than the 'fine-dining' choices in town. They stock an excellent selection of European beers, liquors, though the wine list is a little lacking. The guests are largely young and hip locals, with nary a tacky tourist in sight due to the hidden nature of the Selkirk waterfront. In summer the patio features high quality and comfortable seating (wicker, metal, even cubist modern sofas) with state of the art heaters - the patio is a semicircle fronting on water as it wraps around the circular restaurant. A must see, must eat, must enjoy destination! Try the Tuna Tartare and the Wittekirk beer on a sunny day - especially if you are riding the 'Goose trail (a hundred yards away). The Creme Brulee is the best I've had outside of France, and definitely the best in town.
I had the privilege of visiting Glo recently. Everyone is friendly and we got great service all around. The martinis seemed a smaller portion than most places for the price you paid, but the food was excellent. We had chicken wings to start, a mix of hot and honey garlic as our server said was good. They are some of the meatiest wings I've had in Victoria. I had the chicken mango salad for dinner while my boyfriend had the ribs, and WOW the ribs were amazing fall-off-the-bone and so tasty! I definitely suggest visiting this restaurant. Amazing!
The food and ambience are terrific. We were able to sit outside and have a view of the water. I love the see-through fence to keep the wind away. The only thing I found off-putting was the constant attention of our waiter. I feel wait-staff should know when we need them and know when to stay away. Otherwise, a lovely restaurant with a chef who knows what he is doing.
From the get go the service was poor. When we walked in even though the restaurant was more than half empty we were told that there was nothing available (what???) and were told to go to the bar area - which we did The drinks were WATERED down (unbelievable) and my Sangria didn't even come with any fruit (what's up with that???). After getting our drinks (less than 3 minutes) we were told that our table outside - on the patio was ready (really?). We ordered appetizers - which took over ONE HOUR to arrive. The waitress was not attentive - took away our menus before she even took our order. After ordering our main - then again it took close to one hour to get our meal. My friend found 2 LONG HAIRS in his food - YUCK!!! The service was slow and we felt as if we weren't important. I would not recommend this place to anyone - in fact I will make sure that people know about this uncaring, unattentive staff. This restaurant was truly a disappointment!!!
So loud neither my friend nor I I could not hear the host say 'follow me'. The service was poor, three different servers with not much attentiveness, none of whom introduced themselves or volunteered any i formation whatever. The two appetizers and two dri ks ( one non-alcoholic) cost the same as a four course dinner at a place I go downtown. I Wwent to o for convenience (busi ess meeti g near work) but will ot go again. For the price the food and service should have been remarkable. I will not return.
We had recommended going to the Glo to our friends to have an enjoyable dinner and get together.
After being there last night, we have since apologized to them!!
No one enjoyed their meal, and the prices were too high. We couldn't get over how tasteless the food was and even the bread was over done and dry.
We will not be coming back again or will we be recommending The Glo to anyone else.
The location on the patio was very nice, but if you don't have good food, people will not come.
We are very upset and disappointed about last night and feel totally ripped off!!!!
We hope you make the necessary changes to have a successful restaurant business.
Their Mediterranean pizza is greasy and has no sauce. Not very tasty, I wouldn't recommend it.

As you may imagine, I was concerned to invite friends to Glo based on the previous reviews. But, I had been there in the past and my experience was positive and the surroundings hip and perfect for a "Sex in the City" night out with my gals! I contacted the new General Manager and were assured a reservation at a good table...although I do think all the tables are well placed to take in the great view outside of the Selkirk waterway and fun outdoor patio.
The server was friendly, prompt and efficient. The food was well timed so that we enjoyed our appetizers, mains and desserts...and of course a couple of fabulous cocktails! A personal visit by the General Manager to check in with our meals was a pleasant touch.
We shared some delicious calamari, perfectly cooked (a delicate art not achieved at some establishments!) and I enjoyed my "L'Arc de Triomphe" cocktail...as a way to remember my last Parisian trip, you understand.... ;-)
My Main was a crispy salmon.situated atop a watercress salad and langoustine potato croquette---I know your mouth is watering! I managed to negotiate a tasy scallop from my friend's plate and delighted in its sweet tenderness. She had ordered my second choice...an innovative deconstructed bouillabaise...I can't have everything! (but maybe a bite!)
Dessert was positively a sinful "sharesies" feast with my friends. The creme brulee, glorious, the cheesecake delightful, and the chocolate trio... well, it was the crowning glory.
A memorable evening! Reservations likely needed when you attend. Whether a sunny afternoon on the glass encased patio (heated at night) by the water or a trendy table inside...ambient music to enjoy...I am sure you will enjoy it! ---Yours truly, Noisette ;-)
this place is okay their meat dishes are dreadful and buns look like they came out of a costco bag. The Pizza's arn't bad, but way too much cheese and not enough topping, while service is excellent the food is passable and does not justify the prices. Thier martini list while large are served in very small portions (even though there are standardized sizes I really feel they are cutting corners here). There are places in town that have better food and drinks for better prices. However I think it would be a nice place to go for a romantic dessert and mayber a bottle of red wine
This was a lovely setting for lunch with a friend I hadn't seen in a while. It was her first time at the Glo and she was impressed. It's in my neighbourhood so I'm glad I can always count on it being an excellent choice. Jill took good care of us and added to our enjoyment.
A beautiful little spot for a restaurant, right on the water. The patio was inviting, live music playing softly, and a great buzz from the patrons. Inside was also very nicely decorated, clean, well kept, and well excecuted.
Our service was poor right off the get go, the hostess seemed lost with what to do with our request for a table for two. It took 2-3 minutes for her to start us towards a table. Fine if we were dealing with a line up, but there was only 1 other party of 2 waiting, and lots of tables available. Unforutnately our service didn't improve a lot from there, we felt ignored at times, though there were nearly as many people working as their was eating at the time we were there.
With all that out of the way, the food! While prices were a little higher than average pub fare (and the comparison to a pub should stop there) the food was excellent. Everything we had off the menu was done to perfection, and had excellent flavour. Even something as simple as a club sandwich was not only solid, but IMPRESSIVE in how flavourful it was.
If they can step up the service, and keep the flavour flowing, this could become a favorite for sure.
Just had dinner at Glo. It started well, with attentive service while being seated, but then it fell right off.
Order a double single malt neat, arrived a long time later as a single. For dinner had the BBQ Duck which when it finally arrived was OK, a little too much liquid smoke.
For the main course I had the special ... Steak with prawn sauce medium rare with Turkish salad. When it finally arrived the exterior of the steak was crispy and it looked like part of the side was cut away. It actually tasted like it was medium well done. The sauce had a film on it. The sparse vegetables were tasteless and the Turkish salad tasted surprisingly like a Greek Salad.
Will all that was going wrong I skipped dessert.
Would I return … there is a Mcdonald’s down the street which would be a better choice.
Went to Glo with four other girlfriends for dinner/dessert and some drinks. We arrived at 8 and shortly thereafter ordered our meals/desserts. By 9:30 nobody had any food in front of them. We even asked our waitress about 9:10 where our food was and she said she would check. She never came back. We asked again at 9:30 a bit more firm this time and upon checking she said the bill had been lost and the food hadnt been prepared. Two of the girls had to go at this point, they left hungry and the waitress brought them their bill for the pop one of them had drank. I couldnt beleive she had the nerve to bring her a bill for 3.00 dollars when she screwed up the dinner and made a half ass apology for it. The rest of us stayed and waited for the food that was supposed to be prepared quickly now. By 9:45, one dessert (out of 3 ordered) had been presented. The other girl finally got her meal. In all of this there was no manager to be found, the waitress never had any one come over to the table. You would think she would have noticed her table hadnt eaten in an hour and a half but she hadnt. It was not busy. Drinks took at least 10-15 minutes to get. Finally after 10:00 a manager came over, apologized, and comped the bill. Meanwhile our friends who had to leave earlier had already left their money for their portion of the bill and there wasnt much else to comp because we only ended up receiving one appy and one dessert for the five of us and a couple of drinks. Cant comment on the food because I never got to eat. Will not be going back.
