Food: excellent mussels in tomato sauce, and even better garlic bread to go along with it. Prime rib and bacon-wrapped scallops was one of the best combinations I've had in a long time. The baby-back ribs portion of the mixed grill was good but the chicken was slightly burnt and overcooked. Did not enjoy the huge buttered broccoli or carrot wedges that came with the meals either, but not enough to detract from the good points.
Service: friendly, not pushy.
Value: about the average range
Ambiance: a rustic look with tons of candlelight. very elegant.
We went to this restaurant after reading several reviews.
We liked the food - paella and sirloin skewers. Although the beef were a little overcooked, we liked it combined with hummus and pita bread with the double baked potatoes - yum! The paella was simply tasty and satisfying!
The waiters were very friendly and they were polite enough to ask us a couple of times if we need anything.
The value for us is reasonable for the size of serving.
We liked the ambiance, a feel of the mediterranean.
After reading the outstanding reviews for this restaurant, my husband and I decided to try it out. What an utter disappointment. The food was tasteless. The steak wasn't at all seasoned; the veggies and potatoes were completely bland. The steak was cooked perfectly medium-rare as requested.
The service was awful. Our waiter never refilled our drinks once or even offered to bring another. He checked on our meal once in a "drive-by" manner. He was practically running past our table as he asked. We didn't see him again. We sat with our plates pushed away (as we were done with the lacklustre food) for over 15 minutes before he returned to clear them. Still no offer to replenish our drinks.
And the same time, the waiter at the next table was telling racist jokes because he had deemed his group to have a sense of humour. Funny or not, it was entirely inappropriate and unprofessional.
Never ever again will we spend a cent at the Garlic Rose.
The experience was wonderful. The food was perfect, and the server was charming and brilliant. Highly recommended for a first date, or a 50th anniversary. COngrats to a wonderful restaurant in Langford
I never went to the Garlic Rose all the years that it was located downtown victoria. But now that it has re-located to Langford I think it will do quite well.I was driving through Langford with my mother one afternoon and we stopped in for lunch. The food was great, the service was great, and I loved the atmosphere. The Location used to be a Mexican Restaurant that went Belly-Up and they basicaly kept the all the mexican theme inside. I would definatley go back for luch again. The staff were nice and they treated us with legite polite service.
My family and I went to Sunday Brunch.
*FOOD - VERY LIMITED selection from the buffet table. Food was NOT fresh.
*SERVICE- Our waiter was friendly but quoted us the wrong price for our meal as it was a buffet style and prices were according to age.
*VALUE- We felt the buffet was not worth the price we were charged.
*AMBIANCE- Restaurant is quite nice inside, the decor has a very romantic feel.
Overall- would not recommend.Do not waste your money at this buffet.
If you are looking to take your special someone out for dinner - this is it! the dining room has hundreds of lit candles and 4 fireplaces. The food is fantastic and you receive very large portions no neuveau cusine here. I loved the mussels in the spicy tomato sauce. My streak was cooked as asked to perferct medium rare and was so tender. Our waiter was attentive and friendly. My partner had the steak and lobster and enjoyed it equally. I recommend it highly!
My husband and I had dinner at this place but we were disappointed. The salad I ordered was obviously a left over from lunch, not only the veggies were old and withered but it was soaking from oil. And where in heaven's name can you find a waiter who wears perfume but only at this place!!! I have asthma , i was just so glad to get out of there!!!!! Never again shall I return to that horrible place.
Just to let Victoria Know what a difference a few months make. My wife and I had the most wonderful dinner tonight. The food presentation was unreal and the taste even better. They have a new Chef and it has made this restaurant a top place for a relaxing and enjoyable evening. Would make reservations on weekends it can be quit busy
We had one of the best evenings June 21st. Great food and drink and above and beyond service.
The waiters that served us were outstanding. The best service I have seen in years.
Well done everyone.
We will definately go back. We had never been before but will be suggested to many friends. Outstanding service.
