I came here for brunch the other day and sat on the patio. The service was great the whole time; I only was drinking water and it was refilled multiple times. I ordered the huevos incrediblo (or something like that) and it was tasty although I would have like the eggs a little runnier. The sun was shining and I enjoyed the summer with a tasty brunch, what else could you want?
I can really only review what I had, and perhaps I ordered the wrong thing. The breakfasts all looked ok as did the fries and wraps I saw.
Unfortunately I didn't order those things. I had a veggie Cristo sandwich. A Monte Cristo sandwich is a whole sand wich dipped in egg and cooked till golden and crisp like french toast. This was yellow coloured soft floppy bread and small pieces too. Inside was supposed to be avocado, brie, roasted garlic and peppers. I could not taste, nor did I see any peppers. I got a couple of whole chunks of almost raw garlic though. Yuk. The worst was the two premium items I wanted. The brie was so hot it had melted into an indistinguishable liquid mess. Then there were large chunks of hot avocado. Hot avocado is positively gross. The whole sandwich was a complete disaster. Plus it tasted like pesto which was not in the description.
It came with salad and the dressing choices were one - take it or leave it. The salad had some shaved beet on it which was nice, but there was some weird type of green in it that made the whole thing taste a little weird. All this for only $10.95. I want my money back. Wait staff was bored.
Hit up Floyd's again just yesterday for a great Sunday breakfast. My dining partner and I were there just around 9:30am, minutes before they were totally slammed with Sunday breakfast customers.
Once again my breakfast was outstanding. We were seated immediately on the patio and had hot coffee in our cups before you could blink an eye. I ordered my usual the rancheros incrediablous and yes they were everything I could hope for. A huge plate with fresh ingredients including a bunch of melted cheese and very nicely done guac.
The dish arrived with their new "signature" potato's. They were fresh, well seasoned and simply deeeelish.
My breakfast companion had eggs, sausage, potato's, and a great tasting pancake that I sampled.
To me Floyds is probably "the" best breakfast place in Victoria. Their lunches are good as well but I prefer to enjoy the first meal of the day there. Not a fancy place but an eclectic mix of serves having fun and treating their customers well. Trust me, other establishments in Victoria could learn a thing or two from Floyds.
Had a late lunch here today with my husband and daughter. I had a quesidella (sp?) with spinach, cheese, tomato and some sort of meat. It was nicely fried but HUGE!!! Didn't care too much for the potatoes. Even though they looked delicious, they weren't!!
My husband had the usual breakfast fare of the three meats and potatoes and hash browns. Said it was good.
Our daughter ordered the Mango smoothie. I found it to be too artificial tasting but she liked it so I guess that's ok.
Service was very good and very cheerful bloke serving us. His use of "cheers" made us feel as though we were eating in London and we've never been to London!!!
The place was pretty funky!! The address given is on Yates Street but you actually enter off the other street!! WOuld definite go back to this place and recommend to friends!
The owner of this place is one of the nicest people in town, and this can't hurt his business. The food is great, and service is great, but the music is always too loud. Otherwise, it's excellent in every regard and highly recommended.
I've been to most restaurants in town that offer breakfast on a Sunday morning, and Floyd's is right up there in my top two.
They offer a wide variety of choices, and the food is delicious, consistently. Their BC Hash is a favourite of mine. The half order fills me up until dinner. If I haven't been grocery shopping in a while, I get the full order and pack home the leftovers.
Double your pleasure is also tried and true - great for when you can't decide between bacon, ham or sausage.
Being a fan of basted eggs, which can be tricky, I will give Floyd's two thumbs up as they've been served perfectly every time.
Staff are always in a good mood and can make recommendations. If you like to doodle, bring a sharpie and add your mark to the decor.
After hearing about Floyd's for years, I finally managed to get it together and go with my partner in crime and eggs benny loving buddy. We've been on a mission the past few months to find the best eggs benny in Victoria and Floyd's is definitley one of the top contenders. They have a choice of various benny's, traditional and otherwise. I actually had a hard time choosing off the menu because while we were previewing the menu, everything that came out of the kitchen looked very good. Alas, I settled on a benny with tomato, brie and bacon. Very delicious! My friend had the traditional, she's such a purist, and said it was tied for first place in her mind. The portions were just the right size, everything was served hot off the grill and the coffee was good and refills were plentiful! We went mid-morning on a Thursday and there was no line-up, we were promptly seated and there was still a few minutes on the meter when we came out nearly an hour later. I can't wait to go back and try something else on the menu, but it may be hard to steer away from the benny's!
The atmosphere is fun loving and the staff are always friendly, they also have "green stuff" that special fusion of spicy green peppers and whatever else that makes it taste so good. However I find the food comes in rather small portions which is unusual for a breakfast style diner, the hash browns are unimaginative and their scrambled eggs though delicious looked pitifully small on my plate. I would go If someone asked me to but it would not be my first choice for breakfast Shine and Lady Marmalade serve very good breakfasts with excellent portions. However this diner is a favorite in town and it is worth a visit to judge for oneself
We heard about this place thru our friends. On this short little business trip, we had the chance to check it out - a good choice!
Bottomless cups of coffee (IV would be better) and portions are very healthy. Their homemade hash is just that - home made and hearty!
We shared the full portion of the sausage hash - more than enough for 2. We arrived at 9am and were tabled right away. Timing was good as the rush started coming in at about 930 to 10.
I'd recommend this place to anyone looking for above solid service, food & value and atmosphere. The kids had a great time with colouring books and the Coy aquarium.
If you're in the mood for something super casual (everything from ambiance to waitstaff to decor) then this is the place. Arrive as early as you can, especially on weekends, as trendy breakfast spots downtown are few and far between, and fill up quickly. Arriving at 10am will still nearly guarantee a wait. It's a quirky, noisy place with all of the traditional breakfast trimmings; specialty items appear to be omlettes and the like. It's an absolute ton of food, so the half order should be fine for the average female. Decent food and a nice central downtown location.
I've been to Floyd's several times over the past year or so, but I won't be going back any time soon. The food is usually good, especially the BC hash, but the service is ridiculously lacking and lately the kitchen has been spotty.
On our last visit we waited 15 minutes AFTER being seated for coffee and a server, and waited almost an hour for our breakfast, two of which came 10 minutes after the initial two. The easiest breakfast -- scrambles eggs, toast, potatoes and bacon, requested CRISP -- sat under a heat lamp for ages and the bacon was soft. By the time the second BC hash came (mine), I couldn't eat it -- I had waited too long and felt ill. We never had our coffee refilled and no server asked how our meal was after we finally received our food.
To top it off, they didn't even comp us the coffee, despite the fact that we noted the problems to one of the servers who was apparently responsible for our table. Her response was that the kitchen was "really busy," but within 10 minutes of our arrival it was half empty. Terrible service and less-than-stellar food -- why go back?
I've only been to Floyd's once, so take that into consideration. I found their food to be really good, and their service was fast and helpful. I went during the week and it wasn't hard to get a table - but it was far from empty. Definitely a great casual place to go for breakfast in Victoria.
I went to Floyd's Diner for breakfast this morning (February 17th,2008) because I have heard so much about how good it is supposed to be. When I go there the line up was going out the door, but because I was alone I was able to get a table in about 5 minutes. There breakfast menu is quite large with plenty to choose from. All the meals have pretty funky names and the rest of the menu is written in the same way. I put my hat down on the table and left to go and wash my hands in the washroom and when I came back they had moved my table together with 3 other tables, cleared my cutlery and my napkins, took away my condements, and there was a group of 6 ready to sit down at my table. So I quickly sat down at my spot (now part of some group sitting) and the waitress (one of about 3 that I had in the first 2 minutes of sitting down) finaly realized that she had made a big mistake and asked me if I had eaten already. I said No I just got here and went to wash my hands in the bathroom...that is why I left my hat on the table. Anyhow I ended up order something called the Double Trouble Mahamad Ali breakfast. It took about 10 minutes to get it and when it came it was a perfect sized portion..not too big, not too small. However the food was only slightly warm and I still did not have any condements on my table from when they cleared it when iIgot up to wash my hands. So I had one of my 3 waitresses get me some ketchup and some jam.
The meal overall hit the spot just right as far as filling me up. When I got up to pay they asked me who my server was and I honestly replied "I have no idea, I had 3 of them" then it took about 5 minutes for I guess my "Main" watiress to come over so I could run my debit card through. Overall...I would not come likely come back to this location but would like to try out there new location on Douglas Street in the Super 8 Hotel.
This place isn't aiming for the stars with its culinary exploits. Its a place to get a pretty good breakfast, at a pretty good price, with pretty good service, in a pretty good location. Its really busy on weekend morning, so it definately has a following. I've eaten here for breakfast more times than anywhere else. The menu is funny, and imaginative, the staff are interesting, pleasant, and easy breezy. Its not a serious place, its more of a gimic experience to tell your friends about who may have been there once after drinking too many caesars the night before, so you can say "remember when we went to floyds after that crazy night"...and the other person replys "yes, and the eggs benny was awesome".......after a night of mangling your taste buds! Its a pretty good place to get breakfast!
I've frequently visited dinehere.ca to get an idea where/if I want to dine out. Given recent experiences with Floyd's, I was compelled to register so that I can offer an opinion.
Floyd's is annoyingly inconsistent in it's food quality. Service is solid and attentive. However, I've had meals (usually breakfast) that are good one week and marginal another. This has been the case for about the last year that I've eaten there (began around summer 08), but my experience this week was such that I will not likely re-visit Floyd's.
My breakfast arrived as I had ordered, rather lukewarm. The potatoes were, for the most part, a very small portion of over-fried scraps from the bottom of the fryer. Not that I'm a pig when it comes to fried foods (I'm not but consider it a treat once in a while with breakfast) - but this was clearly indicative of a real LACK OF QUALITY CONTROL. This plate should not have left the kitchen. Period.
Been there on busy days, and it'll be wonderful. Go in another day, with less people, and the food is nowhere near as good. And vice versa. This level of inconsistency will not retain customers in a city with so many breakfast dining choices.
Good luck Floyd. If you can get your stuff together and be more consistent, I'll gladly come back. But until then, adios.
I have been to this place a few times. Place is always packed, it's worth the wait. It takes the longest to get a table if you have a group of 3. Food is delicious, I love the B.C Hash, Huevos, Veggie Hash, and everything else looks delicious too! Ambiance is very fun, great music and atmosphere. The staff is extremely friendly and outgoing.
Mr. or Mrs. Floyd: I love your huevos, but you gotta do something to get the staff to clean the floor once and awhile...no wait - it should be done every day, in fact, several times a day............................................................................................ ................................................................................................. ..................................................................................
I've eaten breakfast at Floyds a couple of times, and it has been consistently great in every way. The food is amazing, the service is wonderful, even the diner itself is outstanding. Great for entire families or groups of friends, and you can have breakfast all day. You get the old school diner feeling, where it seems kind of grungy but when you look it is really quite clean. Go when it's busy if you want the whole experience, you really get a feeling for how friendly and fun the place can be then. Don't forget to read the menu, it's better than most novels.
Good concept, some good ideas (flipping a coin for a free special).
The quality of the food is not good. I could get a better hamburger patty from the the grocery store. I've eaten there three times as it's cheap enough to be a favoured location with everyone at work; I won't be going there anymore though.
Fries are soft and get soggy easily.
They seem to be more focused on the idea of a restaurant than providing good food.
The place could be a lot cleaner too.
This is the place to go for a benny! They have many different kinds but are all amazing. I pretty much wont go out for breaky unless we go there. If there is a line up which unless you show up early on the weekends there will be at least they serve you coffe while you wait! Always friendly staff! my top pick for good, lots of different yummy sauced bennys on the island!!!!!!
