A good fish experience

I went here with my husband's family and ejoyed it very much. I had grilled halibut on the green salad. The salad was impressive with mixed greens, the regular veggies, beets, seeds, and choice of dressing. The fish was flaky and tasty. My husband had the chicken burger (WTF??) and the others had halibut and chips or yam fries. Overall, it was tasty. It can be very busy, so be prepared to wait during peak weekend times.

Fish on 5th is a bustling little diner in Sidney that has the best fish and chips around. You can sit at a table or on a bar along the front window and although it can be crowded, the food makes up for it all.

The fish and chips we got were hot and very fresh - no soggy anything and you can see them make the food as the kitchen is open and right in the middle of the restaurant. The batter was light and crispy and the coleslaw solid.

it is a highly recommendable place!

Great Fish and Chips

Went for lunch, very busy place, but well worth the wait. took a seat at the window. We shared a two piece halibut and chips with extra coleslaw.
Fish is in a light tempura style batter, I prefer this to most beer batter. We opted for the yam fries instead, man they are tasty, served with a curry mayo, mmmm. they do charge an extra $1 for sharing, small price to pay. Oh, the coleslaw is very nice, light on the dressing, defiantly made fresh
Staff is very nice and friendly, the sever dropped one of our pieces when serving us, but had a new piece in minutes. no big deal.

I want to love this local place, and have on my many past visits, however things have deteriorated. It was over twenty min from the time we were seated until a waitress even acklowleged us. And when I say acknowledged us, she walked up to us and pulled out an order pad. No greeting or welcome, or sorry for the wait. It was about another 10 min until she brought our drinks (even though we were the only one of two tables she was waiting on).Of course while we were waiting, we were able to take a good look around the place. I dont think it has had a good cleaning in ages. The table cloths that hang out from under the glass tops were so grimy, they had a black line running along the edge. They have a sign posted about fresh food taking time and please be patient, so we anticipated a wait, however food was ready in no time and was quite good. Unfortuntaly, our feelings about being treated so poorly affect our feeling about this potentially great restaurant, and we won't be returning.
