A small bakery with freshly baked breads, pastries, tarts, loafs and more.
It's always nice when shops (chains, I guess) listen to their customers' desires. That's why it bugs me that of all the items they have to choose from, that there's not a single organic bread. We do go there for the dark one with the poppy seed top, but I'll be very happy if they ever come out with an organic one. On that note, I think I'll request it...
;) COBS was an excellent choice to stop into. Cheesymite scrolls! Cheese and Pesto scrolls! San Francisco style sourdough that makes the junk you usually get in supermarkets/restaurants shrivel and die by comparison! MMmmmm I like you COBS Bread. Service always seems to be chipper and happy. ESPECIALLY for a chain. Their Pane bread is good as well.
I wouldn't necessarily say there is anything wrong with this bakery and all the staff I've interacted with at the now three locations in Victoria have been great. I really like their cinnamon rolls and since I have a slight obsession with cream cheese frosting, they're always happy to provide me with a little extra to take home.
I guess where my surprise comes from is how popular it has become when we have other bakeries that are far superior in their bread quality, ie. Bond Bond's, Wild Fire, etc. To me Cobs is good and decent, it does offer several types of different breads, good if you have specific dietary needs. Maybe the reason I haven't warmed up to it is that to me, it still feels very commercial. Aside from the cinnamon rolls, I haven't really cared for their breads of buns, they aren't bad, just seem like something you could get at the grocery store bakery for less.
All this to say, I hope they do well here, but I hope they don't hinder the progress of the smaller artisan bakeries that offer a more unique experience and product.
The shop is also located DT area ( beside of London Drugs).
It is totally different from normal bakery shop.
Of course the price is kind of expensive, but good bread!!
They provide a card to pay ( you can add your money ), and collect your point.
I remember the first time I saw a little bakery being built in my city I was curious to see what it would be like. When they finally opened, I was able to try their food and I must say I was very impressed! The bread is freshly baked, so fresh that it's usually still warm from being in the oven. You must try the cinammon rolls with cream cheese icing to..they are amazing!
I appreciate the friendly staff and have never had a bad experience there yet. My only con would be that it's a little expensive...but well worth it.
