The Cactus Club has over 20 locations in BC and Alberta and features an eclectic menu selection that includes steaks, rice bowls, dinner sized salads and more.
My wife and I were reluctant to try this restaurant for a variety of reasons but we are so glad we did. From the greeting at the door to the pleasantries when leaving, this restaurant was excellent.
My wife ordered the "sushi thing" for any appy and soft fish tacos as the main course which were excellent. The wait-staff were attentive and very pleasant without being annoying and even the manager came to our table to ask how things were and gave us a card for one free appetizer for our next visit.
I was very happy with the whole experience that my wife and I enjoyed at the Cactus Club and we will certainly be going there again.
While this little dig on Blanshard is a hit with younger crowd, unfortunately they have edged out the Middle age people that care for better food and a nice ambience. (thirtysomethings and over)
I have dined here numerous times with Friends , Colleagues and Associates, its getting to be as old as the Keg style service with perky little waitresses that obviously know nothing about wines etc ....frankly for twenty five dollar plates of food I want a little bit more than Earls style service.
The Menu is not as broad as it could be - of course we could overlook that with a Bellini or two. But really, $$ adds up and the food just simply has to equate with value for dollar in an establishment like this and sorry it doesn't.
Noise rating in here is obtrusive and if you want to have meaningful conversation then go elsewhere.
On the other hand its open late and a good bet for a decent meal at midnight, with welcoming staff that aren't itching to go home. (how unusual !)
While I would return here discriminately, I would not offer this as a 'must visit' kinda place...but a stopping point to get somewhere....there are better places to have an evening out for dinner in Victoria where you can relax and langour in the sensation.
I have always had a very good meal at this restaurant. Some of the combinations sound weird but once you try it: it works and is very tasty! Prices are a tad high considering portions are a tiny bit small. Service is usually pretty good, even when busy, with a few exceptions. Even when it's busy you don't generally have to wait more than 10 mins. And the bathrooms are a must to be checked out!!!!
I found out about this restaurant in vancouver, and was surprised to find them coming to victoria. They have a wide selection of enjoyable appetizers, entres, desserts and drinks...you can get things from jambalaya bowls to sloppy beef burgers to potato skins...a nice selection and a good choice and good for your buck in victoria(right downtown) parking might be tricky though in the evening
My fiance and I had a great meal here. We started with the Poke entree as our appetizer - AWESOME! Then we had separate entrees. I had the JD Burger which was excellent and she had the fish tacos. All was well and I have to say the fries were the best I had ever had... and that is saying a lot. If you like McDonalds fries (salty and crispy) then you will be blown away by these addictive carbos.
We went there while visiting Victoria and enjoyed it. Good food, good service, great music! Server was helpful suggesting some fun drinks which we enjoyed. Funky (and clean) bathrooms. Will check out some other Cactus Clubs.
Okay, there are good-looking servers. But that doesn't mean they can provide poor service! Yes, some times I have gone to Catcus Club, the server was attentive, but for every good server, I've had three other bad ones. The fusion menu was a nice addition to Victoria. Meals can get pricey though: one bills was $90 for a pitcher of beer, an appy and two meals! This is a lot to pay for beautiful servers, a dim atmosphere and trendy bathrooms.
The food was good and came fast. The drinks were good and came slow.
The waitress had the attitude of a supermodel but without the looks. Treated my girlfriend like garbage.
she had to ask for a glass for her cooler and when that finally came it was slid across the table at her. Then she had to ask for a straw and when that came it was thrown in her drink. The looks she gave her were ignorant and rude. I understand the competition among girls as we experience it quite alot but to be treated like that in a restaurant by the staff is very gross.
Restaurants need to hire waitresses not wannabe models to represent their establishment.
The bill was nothing to brag about either and was harder to swallow after the treatment.
When she finally picked up the bill she rudely asked how much change I wanted back. These girls think tipping is mandatory.Tipping is a gift for doing an outstanding job.
Don't think I will be returning there.
I went with a group of friends. It is evident that they assign a server of the opposite sex to the guests... which might make the server more tips but if you aren't superficial it won't make the restaurant a great rep or regular costumers. The food was.... food. Edible but not interesting. I suppose it is a good thing they have a downtown location. To loud, and not enough room between tables.
The one dissapointing thing about big chains of restaurants such as cactus club is the service. In these types of restaurants the servers don't care about enticing customers to return because all they really worry about is their pay check. My family and i went out for dinner here a few weeks ago and although the food was okay, i was not impressed with the service at all. We were greated after the hostess decided she was done socializing and half way thru our meal we were basically told to hurry up and leave. Not in those exact words but the staff turning on all the ligths on full and then proceeding to flicker them off and on was a good enough sign. And to top it off we were not the only customers in the restaurant! It just goes to show that to cactus club their customers are only a dollar sign.
went for lunch the other day and got greeted with a smile. service was quick and attentive. drinks came quickly, and we ordered as we were ready (no waiting). the food came quickly. the kitchen split my meal 1/2 plated and 1/2 to go at no extra charge. i had a big salad - i forget the name of it, but it had egg, chicken, avocado and other veggies. 1/2 was a perfect lunch-sized meal. my brother had a spicy chicken bowl, and it was good as always. i have no complaints. oh yeah, and i love the bathrooms... clean, they have an automatic seat liner and a foot button to flush - LOVE that!
Firstly I don't need to be bombarded with a television screen while I eat my meal I can do that at home. this place is typical of the the low quality western slop we white folk like to call food. A corporate chain infusing poor taste with middle class mediocre food tastes. Service was passable food was bland and the interior ambiance made me feel like I was in a really posh airport lounge (which i suppose is not necessarily a bad thing). There are far superior restuaurants in the city that are locally owned such as fifth street, the tapas bar and vista 18. Even Earls does a better job than this
Cactus Club is a great place to dine, in the heart of Victoria. The location it self is great; the patio is nice to sit and watch the world go bye or sit on the far side, and have a drink and watch the great big screen TV. The food is exceptional and eclectic. The service and the attitudes of the staff is something to be desired. The service is slow, and the staff is really cold, especially to the mentally or physically challenged. If the staff had the same warm, welcoming and satisfying feelings as the food then the establishment would be a great place to meet and have a really relaxing night.
Cactus club is one of my favorite restaurants in Victoria.
They have a lot of kinds of alcohol and light meals.
I usually drink one of cocktails.
The cocktail that I usually drink at the resutaurant is sour and a little sweet. I think it has a lot of kiwis.
I really like the restaurant because staff is very friendry and dishes are delicious!
But it's too loud inside the restaurant for me.
I've had much of the food on the menu - and it has all been delicious - but I nearly always order the same thing, and I absolutely always get the same thing. Having lived in a small northern town where the only consistency is snow all winter, I really appreciate this fact.
I also really like the service there; they're nearly always in the right place at the right time, and I do appreciate the fact that any server is happy to help any customer - not having to wait for 'your waitress' is a definite plus in my book.
Wife and I can get out of there for 30 bucks if we drink water; on the other hand, an appy, a few beer and some main courses will get you to 60+ bucks pretty quick.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place as it is probably our favourite 'meal out' restaurant.
Basically the same restaraunt as Earls/Moxies with standard items at good prices. I find myself surprised when a meal here can cost $15 while fast food is about $9-10 a meal. The food isn't great if your looking for dining, but it's alright and can even be pleasant. The servers there are all 18-24yr old people hired because of looks. They are all nice and chatty but have no idea about food other than memorizing ingredients on a menu.
